Today I fired my lawn service. They use primarily illegals, as far as I can tell.
Many of the jobs that are taken by the illegals are those that were previously filled by teenagers. Mowing lawns, working in fast food, other low-end retail, etc. Our teenagers are missing out on the vital educational opportunities provided by a job.
I was always told that I would learn a lot more from a boss than from a teacher.
Make it a century and I'll take that deal.
I worked with Latinos in Georgia. Some were legal and those were some of the hardest working individuals I have ever known - business owners who were darned proud of their accomplishments and who had families who were bound and determined to learn English and to assimilate.
ONTH, I also was very familiar with illegals. Forged documents, phony addresses used for those documents (as in closing your eyes, opening as phone book and using whatever address your finger dropped on...(I saw it all).
Before I left Georgia, I had to complete paperwork for my partner who had passed away. This included a court case for Cesar, who kept saying, "Don't call me Cesar. Use Humberto. Like it says on my driver's license."
A lot of job openings soon to come available...

Yeah? My husband picked tobacco in CT as a teenager. Nasty job. And while I was in college, I picked apples to earn extra bucks. I also worked in high school as a chamber maid. These jobs are too good for today's Americans?

I was listening (as long as I could stomach it) to John Zieglar's show today. Students from different schools were calling in talking about how they tried to wave American flags but the Latino students were pulling the flags out of their hands. Even worse, the teachers would confiscate the American flags from them but not the Mexican flags from the Latinos!!!! It was disgusting.
Here in Arizona, one cannot see nothing but Latinos at all the construction sites, I see carpenters, drywall mechanics, plumbers, et all. And eight out of ten can speak no English, or, if asked a question, in their disdain for the Gringo, they just pretend to no comprende Englis.
You know what? I resent that too, because I am Latina myself... but, I am an American citizen; my Dad was born here and he served his country during WWII; I was born and raised abroad but always had my heart and loyalty in the right place: the US. It was this country that gave my grandparents a chance at a better life. When I was finally able to "immigrate back" to my country, it took me four long years to get my three children here legally and I resent these damn bastards who jump the fence and demand to get overnight what my grandparents and my Dad worked all their lifes for. The hell with them!!!!!!!!
By the way, those toting Cezar Chavez lately forget that he were ruthless with both new legal & illegal Mexicans in America working there. His brother was doing the beatings & Cezar was not stopping him & praised him.

Immigrants DID build this country - the kind of immigrants who wanted to be Americans. They are building it still, and they must make their voices heard in this debate. Otherwise, other citizens from other countries may be making decisions for us...
