Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Georgia on our mind

So here we are, in the Deep South, Ochlocknee, Georgia...almost.

We aren't in any city, but Ochlocknee is our post office. It's a short pleasant 10 mile country drive to the grocery and the town of Thomasville.

We like it out here in the country and this time we plan to stay put for a while, Lord willing and the creek don't rise or the saints... and all that.

Direct TV isn't bad at all, although admittedly we rarely watch tv.

Dial-up internet is painfully slow.

The dogs are good. We have a decent amount of yard fenced off for them with a temporary farm fence. Miss Scarlett loves to chase the bugs out here and on the land behind us lives a young female "Sarge look-alike" named Miss Tilley.

Sarge just sits and pines away for her. I'm pretty sure she thinks he's a handsome fella.

Sarge, flirting with Miss Tilley

We have poisonous toads here and we have to watch the dogs carefully at dawn and dusk. They think it's fun to play with the toads.

Miss feather, we have lots of dragonflies, they like to tease the dogs. It's like they know the dogs can't catch them.

We have all kinds of birds, Sam saw a pileated woodpecker a couple days ago, I'm jealous!. We have blue jays and cardinals, warblers and finches and a few different woodpeckers. Roosters crow in the early morning and the woods yield lots of strange sounds at night.

The sky is quite beautiful out here, you can see more than you can in the cities and suburbs. It's like camping out only with a house instead of a tent.

Oh yeah, somewhere between Oregon, North Carolina and Georgia, we got married to each other...in Florida. :-)

We can open burn out here. (note to samwise: with permits!)

The past two Saturdays we spent the entire day watching our burn pile burn. Sam has done such a fine job of clearing the land that we have plenty more to burn when the days are good for it. It's a great way to relax.

Gnats, they are horrible at certain times of the day. The road system is good and the people in the nearby towns are what we find here typically, nice southern polite folks.

We're mostly settled in and hopefully a time will come when we will be able to fence the entire acre in and the dogs can have free roam of the place, that'll be nice.

We wish we could be online more but there is a lot to do and I'm away about 11 hours a day during the week commuting to Tallahassee and Sam is always busy with the chores. And did I mention, dial-up is awful?

All in all, we're blessed and truly enjoying ourselves, the house, the dogs and the area. Now that the humidity of summer is over the weather is quite pleasant.

I'd love to share more pictures with you but in case you missed it, dial-up is awful to work with and we can only be on-line one computer at a time.

Well, on the gambling thing, I was looking for one armed bandits, no such animal any more. They do have quarter machines, but darned few of them, people get them and take up residence. I just got tired of waiting around and besides those dang quarters where heavy to carry around. LOL

I am all done competing now at conventions, costs, too much.

My word, Mayor, Old Glory still flies!

What a shocker you folks had. I remember many years ago when I was living in the sticks, on October 5, we had 5" of snow. Nothing like your storm.

Lots of tree damage, but none to your house I take. That is always a big worry for me, I am surrounded by huge old trees. Limbs are always falling into the street and on the side walk, so far no big ones on the roof.

Margaritas on the house!

Personally I prefer Magaritais while sitting on the deck as I find the pitch of most roofs makes for rather uncomfortable seating. :-)

Tell hubby good job on the sidewalk but how come we always have the money for the fun projects after we get seasoned???

No damage to my house, mostly downed power lines.
Old Glory has withstood this storm and a few others..
Flying strong and high..

I sadly have to go now and remove the apple tree.

Good to see you too.
The snow is just about gone but the problems still persist everywhere.
Still 300,000 without power and trees down everywhere.

Yea we had the same problem here in Kansas City 10 years ago about the same time in October. Snow flurries ended up being 8" of heavy wet snow on trees that srtill had all thier leaves. Lot of people lost trees here as well as power for a week or more.

Good luck

It's early to know the completeness, she appears to be on the way to recovery.

The has been a volunteer in the hospital she's currently in. The whole staff has started calling her the "miracle lady".

No DSL available. You've got better connections in Iraq that we do here, it's a shame. Maybe you could recommend us for a job in Iraq?
