Scenes from The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, located in Punchbowl Crater.
The inscription below the statue of Lady Columbia, taken from Abraham Lincoln's letter to Mrs. Bixby, reads:
THE SOLEMN PRIDE THAT MUST BE YOURS TO HAVE LAID SO COSTLY A SACRIFICE UPON THE ALTAR OF FREEDOM
There is a small chapel within the memorial, which is also featured in this slideshow.
My uncle’s name appears there in the 2nd(?) Court of the Missing. His Corsair was last seen “in a steep attacking dive” 30 miles east of Chudo Island, North Korea in May, 1953. Semper Fi.
I’m grateful to your Uncle for his service, NaughtiusMaximus.
May he rest in peace.

A picture I took when I was last there paying my respects to our fallen heroes. God bless them, and all of you!
Thank you, MarineBrat, for contributing a photo from your visit to the National Memorial Cemetery.
