Best Military Charity (Looking For Suggestions on Where to Donate Money)
http://www.bermanpost.com/2010/02/military-charity.html ^

Posted on 02/25/2010 9:34:23 AM PST by BermanPost

When I first put up ads at my site I said I plan to donate some of the money that I make to worthy causes/organizations. Now that I have passed the threshold and have a check heading my way, I am soliciting suggestions for military charities you consider notable.

You know what a good charity is I am hoping you vets will know good military charities; especially the smaller ones that do great work but do not get the attention and really need the money.

You can comment with your suggestion(s) here or at the post, you do not need to comment in both places. Early next week I will create a poll and invite you to help me decide where the money should go.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am the founder of the Silver Star Families of America.

But I can tell you that the SSFOA is a wonderful organization that helps our wounded, ill, injured and dying veterans.

And we do it all on a shoestring spending AT LEAST 95% of everey dollar directly on our veterans.

I also regularly contribute to Wounded Warriors. I think that’s the best. We had a home built here in Mobile by Homes for Heroes and I also donated to that. I don’t think any of us can do too much for our heroes.

I think this is the one Rush supports annually.
I think it is a great charity. No exra money,
if I had, I would.

I’ll third the Fisher House. They have been a life saver for many a Military Family during their worst moments.

As a veteran and former Solider, I can personally attest to the great work that AER did and does for the US Army.

My soldiers and I have nothing but positive experiences with them!

There likely is no "best" military charity. The one I've chosen to give to is "The Coaltion to Salute America's Heros". They give immediate, emergency funds to badly wounded vets who've recently come home from Iraq and Afghanistan. The funds help the vets pay their bills and care for their families.

Here is a place I would support if I had the money

http://www.homesforourtroops.org

They either Build or Adapt homes for severely wounded troops at no cost. They did a few around me and was very impressed, as otherwise these guys would end up in a nursing home because they couldn’t get around other homes.

Bear :-)

Any conservative campaign running against 0bama in 2012.

In all seriousness... I'd say Wounded Warriors.

A good friend of mine is very involved with “adopt a deployed family” through his church. Although this may not be the answer you were looking for, you (or anyone) can message me for information on how to either get involved with him, or perhaps at your own church. They support the local families of deployed troops, as well as send goods to those that are deployed. It is a really impactful program.

Several Marine spouses I know work for Soldiers’ Angels. They help put together packages for troops. In addition, several veterans I know work for the organization. The group is a regular feature at http://www.blackfive.net also.
