COLORADO SPRINGS — A Vietnam veteran has fulfilled his 44-year-old battlefield promise to return a rosary to a wounded comrade.

Frank Heidel gave the rosary back to Chuck Doole on Wednesday night during an emotional reunion of the two veterans and their families.

Doole had been shot in an ambush and feared he was going to die.

The rosary was a gift from his grandmother and he didn't want it to be lost, so he gave it to Heidel.

Heidel promised to return it when both were safe, but they lost touch. Heidel periodically tried to find Doole without success, until their unit announced a reunion about six months ago.

Today I read an article about a local Tennessee man who bought a Bronze Star in a pawn shop. Had been awarded to a soldier killed in the Korean War. The local man put time and effort into tracking down the brother of the veteran, and presented the medal to him at a graveside ceremony.

I wanted to post the article. Mod, I knew there might be a problem, cause the source is WBIR-TV, which is a Gannett affiliate, and I thought it might be blocked. I have an e-mail from the content co-ordinator at WBIR-TV, giving me permission to post a link to the story, but I don’t know how to proceed without getting the automatic block. If it can’t be done, that’s OK, but if it can, could you guide me on proper procedure?
