This appeared in Sarah Palin's "America by Heart." I think it is especially appropriate today.
It is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
.It is the veteran, not he politician, who has given un the right to vote.
It is the veteran, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin will be draped by the flag.
To all our veterans, today and every day, this proud American says "God Bless You."
This veteran says Thank You for posting the thread and that you are most welcome! I would do it all over again if it became necessary!
How many of you veterans (including me) who are working or are retired got the day off on Veterans’ Day?
Not many I would think unless you were a toiler for state, local or central government, and then a large majority of these trough-feeders never served in the military.
What a wonderful statement!

I have always been in the type of work that ‘holidays’ are secondary to work...mostly by choice BTW...
Even though I completely realize a lot of Vets are College Grads, some going before and some going after, BUT I used to like the ‘irony’ of
“We went in the Military while you stayed home and went to College etc, we get to work on ‘Our Day’, while you get the day off..... (naturally just generally speaking).
Kind of like the irony of Labor Day, more than likely the ‘Laborers’ get to work while white collar and upper management get the day off. (Again, generally speaking).
Well, let me think. Nope, never remember getting (or requiring) any special thanks or anything in 36 yrs with a major corporation which was and is a HUGE defense contractor. Now that I’ve retired, I believe that I will go to the veterans day parade in downtown Reno this morning. I will probably ever salute the flag as it passes by. WOO HOO! Thanks to all the other vets out there,
Without the Brave, there is no Land of The Free. If you won’t stand behind our troops, then please stand in front of them.
