Nice collection...and I find it interesting that in the few handwritten notes on the postcards, the spelling was without error.

Try a similar comparison in today's world....so much for 'modern' publik education.

I love the irony of the Union attempt to slight Robert E. Lee by turning his farm into a cemetery which turned into the most hallowed ground in the nation.

I remember visiting a Civil War graveyard somewhere near Williamsburg. Many of the graves, a simple piece of flat stone in the ground, were marked "Unknown".

There were a bunch of unknowns back then. One could only imagine the heartbreak their mothers suffered.
