Did Katie call Reagan proceedings a circus?

Posted on 06/14/2004 10:18:33 AM PDT by BigTime

Did anyone hear that Katie Couric called the proceedings with Reagan a "circus" last week. I was told this and seeking to confirm it. Have visited MRC site and found nothing.

If this is bogus, please remove this post.

Thanks!

Surely, even if Perky Kaite thought it was a circus, she wouldn't say it./sarcasm

I don't know the answer to your question. However, it would be a hilarious comment from someone who had their colonoscopy nationally televised.

If she called it a circus, then she must have been either a clown at the circus or a part of the freak show.

Does anyone here know why Scott Baio was at the sunset service in CA??? It has had me baffled. I KNOW I saw him in a brief pan of the crowd, and I thought that this service was strictly for friends and family. My guess would be that he and Ron Jr. are friends, but I don't know for sure. It was just very strange watching the end of the service, and all the mourners pausing briefly at the casket as they walked out and see Cha-Chi in the crowd. Both my wife and I couldn't figure out the connection, so anyone who knows let me know.

This is from the Sacramento Bee:

"From veteran actor Mickey Rooney to "Happy Days" television star Scott Baio, celebrities from his early acting days and from later in his life came to pay their respects."

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/9625962p-10549389c.html

And this is from the New York Daily News:

"Scott Baio, who played Chachi in on the hit sitcom "Happy Days," said,"President Reagan made me proud to be an American. Today, I feel sadness."

It has to be psychosomatic....for everytime I find out that any "CELEBRITY" is a LEFTIST shill, I start to find them repulsive. The women become hideous and boy like and the men become effeminate and petty. In any case like many of my liberal friends "I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF".

I don't know about Katie's terminology, but Brokenjaw called it a spectacle. As in, "we haven't seen a spectacle like this since LBJ." (not an exact quote, but the idea is accurate.)

Merv Griffin and Mickey Rooney's attendance is easy to understand with Reagan's roots in show business, but Reagan would have been well past his Hollywood days and well into politics before Scott Baio came onto the scene. It's just an interesting little factoid to me, and I was just trying to figure out why he was there. The service wasn't open to the public, so he had to have been put on the list by someone. I was just trying to figure out how Scott Baio, who has been basically gone from the Hollywood scene was able to attend. Like I said, just a bit of strageness I've been unsuccessfully trying to figure out by scouring the web. I still have found no connection, and it may very well be that there is none; just that Baio admired Reagan like many of us, and had the connections to get himself on the list for the memorial service.

I've googled "baio + Reagan" and "Baio + Schwarzenegger" and "Baio + Republican" and I can't find a link. I'll just take it that Scott Baio admired President Reagan and has some connection to him - but I don't think it's through Ron P.

You did see Scott Baio. I don't know the connection,

After some Google-ing ...
Scott Baio appears to be a Republican from before the time Hollywood required DemoLib credentials to work.
He's not a big name star like Ahnold or Bruce Willis that can get work in spite of going against the flow, so he probably kept his political views to himself, you've just assumed Hollywood == Liberal.

"Very interesting discussion, people. The treacherous method of Hollywood ostracism known as "GRAY-LISTING" does indeed explain a lot of bad things regarding the fallen showbiz careers of particular stars and celebrities.
I first read about this secret phenomena in James Hirsen's best-selling expose TALES FROM THE LEFT COAST. Chapter 6 entitled "Reverse Blacklisting" has the following pertinent quotes:
1. "Author and activist David Horowitz says that the anti-conservative mood in Hollywood is real. He uses the term GRAY-LIST to describe its effect on careers. He says that to anyone involved in the entertainment business, the hatred of conservatives is obvious. And those in the industry who are sympathetic to conservative or Republican goals are terrified." (p. 160)
2. "There are more people with conservative beliefs in Hollywood than one would think, working in various places in the industry. Producers, directors, actors, musicians and other creative types running the gamut from staff technicians to well-known celebrities. And they've all verified one thing - when it comes to political viewpoints, the oppresive atmosphere that you hear about in Hollywood is definitely real." (pp. 163-164)
3. "In an industry where it's very difficult to move up the career ladder, people do miss out on opportunities if they have Republican sympathies." (p. 166)
4. "If one is even perceived to be a Republican in Hollywood, there can be an excluding reaction and people genuinely resent you." (pp. 159-160)
5. "There are a lot of 'closet Christians' in Hollywood because they innately know there exists black-balling and prejudice against professed believers in the entertainment business." (p. 170)
6. "NO ONE WANTS TO ADMIT THAT THERE'S A GRAY-LIST --- BUT THERE IS." (p. 161)
Now, all you guys finally know what's really going on in Scott Baio's showbiz career during these last recent years.

And, as DanPeterTom retire there is no one in the wings with the ability to draw and hold the vast audiences necessary. Maybe he does work for foundations that were close to Reagan's heart. Help with fundraising for the library or something. Maybe did public service work for Alzheimers?

Since he says Reagan made me proud to be an American, my guess is that he may well have offered to help with things like that.

Or maybe a friend of one of the kids. Maybe Michael?

My guess is that he turned his respect for the former President into action.

From the archives, this is one of my personal favorites ---

MIDI - TELL LAURA I LOVE HER

Our Katie Couric, that perky one
You won’t believe what she’s done
Just look and you’ll see
She shows her butt right on TV

We are sure it will win the sweeps
Though, of course, it gives you the creeps
Children all watch…they’re filled with glee
It’s Katie’s colonoscopy

The nurses are screaming…a nightmare they’re dreaming
Their fear they cannot restrain
The doctor just found Katie’s brain

So Katie’s now the butt of their jokes
Inside her each doctor pokes
They cannot believe their eyes
The viewer’s getting a big surprise

They say she has made history
Something like this you’ll never see
One screams out, “I can’t concur
Most Democrats are just like her”

The nurses are screaming…a nightmare they’re dreaming
Their fear they cannot restrain
The doctor just found Katie’s brain

They stitch her up…it’s finally done
She’ll take time off out in the sun
People say each time they pass
Hey, we know your head’s in your @ss

The nurses are screaming…a nightmare they’re dreaming
Their fear they cannot restrain
The doctor just found Katie’s brain

The nurses are screaming…a nightmare they’re dreaming
Their fear they cannot restrain
The doctor just found Katie’s brain
