Bush 1206 Kerry 1190
Here is what we also know from New Yorker Magazine and UPI in articles from January of 2004.
-- Bush's SAT scores are higher than Bill Bradley's, Paul Wellstone's, and John Kerry's.
-- Bush scored a 1206 on his SAT, 566 of 800 on verbal and 640 of 800 on math. [Since the SAT's scale has since been "recentered," Bush's score is more like a 1300 today.]
-- Bush's verbal score would place him between the 84th and 92nd percentile of college-bound students, or the 93rd to 97th percentile of ALL high-school seniors taking the exams, the percentile usually used.
-- His math score would also place him between the 84th and 92nd percentile of college-bound students, or the 94th to 98th percentile of ALL high-school seniors taking the exams, the percentile usually used.
-- Using one method to extract IQ's from these SAT scores, Bush's IQ would be somewhere between 124 and 137. Hardly a dunce, that's at least in the top six percent of Americans.
-- We all hear of Bush's supposed college mediocrity, but in reality his "worst" courses were two C-minus scores. Accounting for grade inflation, Bush's worst grades are around today's B-minuses.
Recentered SAT: 1300 IQ: 124-137 Stupid: Definately not.

Bush is a smart guy, he just has a problem speaking at times. Not too toot my own horn, but I am something like that, with an estimated (via SAT and GRE scores) IQ of 135, but when I get nervous, I come across like a total idiot. At my best, I am not nearly as good as Bush when he is on the campaign trail..
Take that---- you DemonicRats!!!
The most often misspelled word in Free Republic: "definitely"
Hehe -- I spanked both of them --- 1550 -- 730 Math 720 Verbal.
It's meant to test learning ability -- at least it used to.
It tests Aptitude which is similiar to IQ.
If I'm so smart why ain't I prez? :^(
I read somewhere that they compared IQ test results with SAT and GRE score results from the same person, over a number of individuals, and very roughly, your IQ can be estimated as 1/10 of your SAT or GRE scores (PRE "re-centered" scores, I think those are scores from before 1995. Post 1995 scores should be adjusted first to pre 1995 scores).
Not entirely sure, but this might be part of the answer:
"Linda Gottfredson, co-director of the University of Delaware-Johns Hopkins Project for the Study of Intelligence and Society, told United Press International: "I recently converted Bush's SAT score to an IQ using the high school norms available for his age cohort. Educational Testing Service happened to have done a study of representative high school students within a year or so of when he took the test. I derived an IQ of 125, which is the 95th percentile." In other words, only one out of 20 people would score higher.
Another IQ expert, Charles Murray of the American Enterprise Institute, the co-author of the bestseller "The Bell Curve," came up with a similar result when asked by UPI. Noting that everybody except high school dropouts takes the PSAT when they are sophomores, Murray calculated from PSAT scores that "I think you're safe in saying that Dubya's IQ, based on his SAT score, is in excess of 120, which puts him the top 10 percent of the distribution, but I wouldn't try to be more precise than that."
It's from a UPI article from January of 2004. Written by Steve Sailer
Beats me. My I.Q. is 145 and I just borrowed $120,000 on a $105,000 "post-war afterbirth" and wrote over $7,000 in checks to put a new roof on a severely gravitationally-challenged exercise in "bootstrap architecture" while my future eartnings could be measured in devalued Argentinian pesos, so who am I to judge?
"estimated (via SAT and GRE scores) IQ of 135, but when I get nervous, I come across like a total idiot"
I find that a bit of a paradox.
What subject do smart people struggle with the most?
My math is a bit weak, but doesn't that add up to 1450?
I would say your math is dead on. 1600 is the max score possible. 1550 would be fairly outrageous (not impossible).
Nevertheless, 1450 is nothing to be ashamed of. I was in the low 1200's.
This is idiotic.
Okay, I give up; my keyboard has been infested with gremlins from Hell, "earntings" is earnings; why do I even bother?
I am the same, may IQ which was recently tested scored 160 of course it was the VA so I am not certain how exact they are. But anyways I tend to get ahead of myself or overthink a question, being exact is not my strong suit. Many tiames when I write I tend to race ahead in it, by the time I am finished I may have written one illegible sentence that may have originally was meant to be a paragraph or a whole dissertation, at least my mind told me it was.
I would imagine most freepers are on the upper side of the bell curve. The addiction to constant and up to date information is actually an indicator of people who are not getting enough to process in their normal day to day activities.
The stupidest freeper would very likely be around 110.
Some of them, I am confident, are in the upper 170 range.
Birds of a feather so to speak.
UGH Fat fingers... 1450... DOH!!!
Thanks for saying something with which lots of people can identify. Like your FR profile, too.
Can't you just hear all the synapses flexing and posturing all of a sudden?
Got 1570 in 1961. Beat the Unibomber. Where did it all go?
Would either score get into an Ivy League school these days? Just about everyone I know who was white and went to an Ivy Leage School got at least a 1400 on the SAT.
Keep in mind that not all scores on that page are verified. My understanding is that Kerry will not release his.
I have no DOUBT if his scores were higher, he would have released them already.
At the end of the day does it mean anything? Of course not. But I tire of hearing the RATs bash this man as if he's some mentally challenged person. The guy has a lot of smarts and a ton of STREET SMARTS, something Kerry wouldn't have if Theresa paid for them.
I have read that Kerry's GPA was lower than Bush's also. I have read that the reason that Kerry joined the Naval reserve was because he was turned down for grad school and the draft board wouldn't let anyone with a 1-A leave the country (to study in France).
I guess that Friday night of partying before taking the SAT on a Saturday didn't help after all - my (1991) SAT scores were 1240, while my IQ is between 138 and 145 (informal tests only). Oh well, if I thought intelligence were that important in the presidency, I would abstain from voting altogether. But *wisdom*... Bush has that in spades, and that's the key to leadership.
"Hehe -- I spanked both of them --- 1550 -- 730 Math 720 Verbal."
Okay, I'll be a wise guy here: 730 + 720 = ???
Aw stoppit! We all know that Bush family influence and power, warped the sats in Georges favor, while poor little John Kerry, the bastard son of a poverty stricken share cropper, who died before little Johnnie was even concieved, had to claw his way out of poverty, the old fashioned way-By marrying rich widows.
I got 790 verbal.
(let's not talk about math) ;)
Now they cannot possibly vote for somebody who is more stupid than GWB:)
I got a 770 Math SAT score when I took it at age 16 but didn't do so well in English, getting a 660 there.

I got a 770 Math SAT score when I took it at age 16 in 1970 but didn't do so well in English, getting a 660 there.
Same here. I graduated first in my college class with a perfect 4.0 GPA and consistantly test high when it comes to IQ..but in certain situations come across as a total lug-head.
I have been known for cursing out, insulting and even physically attacking people (especially in my younger years) who make me angry. Especially lying liberal holes.
By the way, the liberal professors who gave me straight A grades seemed to like my solid convictions and never give up work ethic :)
You made need to be retested on the math section. :)
I was 1410, 800 Verbal/610 Math.
Good to see Al Franken and Jeanie Garofolo do "so well"
Considering Kerry graduated from Yale, why did he go to law school at Boston University rather than Harvard which is also in Boston?
>>>What subject do smart people struggle with the most?
I hear that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions...
Kerry's GPA from Yale was said to be a C-.
Do any of you folks know if Kerry and Bush took the GCT tests upon going military. Maybe they didn't since they were college grads but it would make an interesting bit of info.
What was the GCT test?
I like that explanation.
Probably didn't bother to attend class!!
