Bush 1206 Kerry 1190

:rollin

Here is what we also know from New Yorker Magazine and UPI in articles from January of 2004.

-- Bush's SAT scores are higher than Bill Bradley's, Paul Wellstone's, and John Kerry's.

-- Bush scored a 1206 on his SAT, 566 of 800 on verbal and 640 of 800 on math. [Since the SAT's scale has since been "recentered," Bush's score is more like a 1300 today.]

-- Bush's verbal score would place him between the 84th and 92nd percentile of college-bound students, or the 93rd to 97th percentile of ALL high-school seniors taking the exams, the percentile usually used.

-- His math score would also place him between the 84th and 92nd percentile of college-bound students, or the 94th to 98th percentile of ALL high-school seniors taking the exams, the percentile usually used.

-- Using one method to extract IQ's from these SAT scores, Bush's IQ would be somewhere between 124 and 137. Hardly a dunce, that's at least in the top six percent of Americans.

-- We all hear of Bush's supposed college mediocrity, but in reality his "worst" courses were two C-minus scores. Accounting for grade inflation, Bush's worst grades are around today's B-minuses.

Recentered SAT: 1300 IQ: 124-137 Stupid: Definately not.

Others have claimed that Kerry refuses to release his SAT scores. Of course, we all know if they were higher than Bush's, he would have released them. Gore's scores were higher and he released them in 2000.

Bush is a smart guy, he just has a problem speaking at times. Not too toot my own horn, but I am something like that, with an estimated (via SAT and GRE scores) IQ of 135, but when I get nervous, I come across like a total idiot. At my best, I am not nearly as good as Bush when he is on the campaign trail..

The SAT tests knowledge,

It's meant to test learning ability -- at least it used to.

Just wondering how one would extract an IQ from an SAT score. The SAT tests knowledge, not intelligence. Using an IQ test or an LSAT test, I could see... Not sure how they do it with SAT tests. Anyone know?

I read somewhere that they compared IQ test results with SAT and GRE score results from the same person, over a number of individuals, and very roughly, your IQ can be estimated as 1/10 of your SAT or GRE scores (PRE "re-centered" scores, I think those are scores from before 1995. Post 1995 scores should be adjusted first to pre 1995 scores).

Here, check this link out

Not entirely sure, but this might be part of the answer:

"Linda Gottfredson, co-director of the University of Delaware-Johns Hopkins Project for the Study of Intelligence and Society, told United Press International: "I recently converted Bush's SAT score to an IQ using the high school norms available for his age cohort. Educational Testing Service happened to have done a study of representative high school students within a year or so of when he took the test. I derived an IQ of 125, which is the 95th percentile." In other words, only one out of 20 people would score higher.

Another IQ expert, Charles Murray of the American Enterprise Institute, the co-author of the bestseller "The Bell Curve," came up with a similar result when asked by UPI. Noting that everybody except high school dropouts takes the PSAT when they are sophomores, Murray calculated from PSAT scores that "I think you're safe in saying that Dubya's IQ, based on his SAT score, is in excess of 120, which puts him the top 10 percent of the distribution, but I wouldn't try to be more precise than that."

It's from a UPI article from January of 2004. Written by Steve Sailer

Beats me. My I.Q. is 145 and I just borrowed $120,000 on a $105,000 "post-war afterbirth" and wrote over $7,000 in checks to put a new roof on a severely gravitationally-challenged exercise in "bootstrap architecture" while my future eartnings could be measured in devalued Argentinian pesos, so who am I to judge?

I think it can be roughly done, particularly from older tests when the questions were more geared towards reasoning than knowledge. Even the analogies questions are being removed from the modern SAT, and those are very similar to questions used on some IQ tests.

But yes, the LSAT is a much better exam for that sort of thing. A high enough LSAT score will qualify you for Mensa, as the LSAT is mostly a reasoning-based test. (The logic games are a b-tch.) An old SAT score can also qualify you for Mensa.

I would say your math is dead on. 1600 is the max score possible. 1550 would be fairly outrageous (not impossible).

Nevertheless, 1450 is nothing to be ashamed of. I was in the low 1200's.

I am the same, may IQ which was recently tested scored 160 of course it was the VA so I am not certain how exact they are. But anyways I tend to get ahead of myself or overthink a question, being exact is not my strong suit. Many tiames when I write I tend to race ahead in it, by the time I am finished I may have written one illegible sentence that may have originally was meant to be a paragraph or a whole dissertation, at least my mind told me it was.

I would imagine most freepers are on the upper side of the bell curve. The addiction to constant and up to date information is actually an indicator of people who are not getting enough to process in their normal day to day activities.

The stupidest freeper would very likely be around 110.
Some of them, I am confident, are in the upper 170 range.

Birds of a feather so to speak.

Keep in mind that not all scores on that page are verified. My understanding is that Kerry will not release his.

I have no DOUBT if his scores were higher, he would have released them already.

At the end of the day does it mean anything? Of course not. But I tire of hearing the RATs bash this man as if he's some mentally challenged person. The guy has a lot of smarts and a ton of STREET SMARTS, something Kerry wouldn't have if Theresa paid for them.

I have read that Kerry's GPA was lower than Bush's also. I have read that the reason that Kerry joined the Naval reserve was because he was turned down for grad school and the draft board wouldn't let anyone with a 1-A leave the country (to study in France).

I guess that Friday night of partying before taking the SAT on a Saturday didn't help after all - my (1991) SAT scores were 1240, while my IQ is between 138 and 145 (informal tests only). Oh well, if I thought intelligence were that important in the presidency, I would abstain from voting altogether. But *wisdom*... Bush has that in spades, and that's the key to leadership.

This is terrible news for all the Al Bore supporters who were going on and on in 2000 how critically important it was to vote for the candidate with the higher SAT score.

Now they cannot possibly vote for somebody who is more stupid than GWB:)

I got a 770 Math SAT score when I took it at age 16 but didn't do so well in English, getting a 660 there.
