My Heros have always been cowboys...
unknown

Subject: Our Cowboy President

It used to tick me off when the Muslim detractors in the Middle East, or the socialist detractors in Europe, Hollywood and others called our President a cowboy, but the more I think about it, the more glad I am that he is.

When I was a kid, cowboys were my heroes.

Well, I mean the ones in the white hats, not the black hats, who were usually the bad guys.

There was Tex Ritter, Tom Mix, Buck Jones,

Hopalong Cassidy, the Lone Ranger.....

there was Red Ryder, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers......

then later, there was Marshall Matt Dillon, Hoss & Li'l Joe Cartwright,

Paladin, Maverick and others....

Rawhide's Rowdy Yates

What were common attributes of these legendary cowboys?

Here are a few:

1. They were never looking for trouble.

2. But when trouble came, they faced it with courage.

3. They were always on the side of right.

4. They defended good people against bad people.

5. They had high morals.

6. They had good manners.

7. They were honest.

8. They spoke their minds and they spoke the truth, regardless of what people thought or "political correctness," which no one had ever heard of back then.

9. They were a beacon of integrity in the wild, wild West.

10. They were respected. When they walked into a saloon (where they usually drank only sarsaparilla), the place became quiet, and the bad guys kept their distance.

11. If in a gunfight, they could outdraw anyone. If in a fist fight, they could beat up anyone.

12. They always won. They always got their man. In victory, they rode off into the sunset.

Those were the days when there was such a thing as right and wrong, something blurred in our modern world, and denied by many.

I still like cowboys ... They represent something good ... something pure that America has been missing.

Ronald Reagan was a cowboy.

I like Ronald Reagan, who was brave, positive, and who gave us hope. He wore a white hat. To the consternation of his liberal critics, he had the courage to call a spade a spade and call the former Soviet Union what it was -- the evil empire. Liberals hated Ronald Reagan.

They also hate President Bush because he distinguishes between good and evil. He calls a spade a spade, and after 9-11 called evil "evil," without mincing any words, to the shock of the liberal establishment. That's what cowboys do, you know.

He also told the French to "put their cards on the table" (old West talk), which they did, exposing their cowardice and greed.

The radical Muslims are wrong.*

In the old West, might did not make right.

Right made might.

Cowboys in white hats were always on the side of right, and that was their might.

I am glad my President is a cowboy.

He got his man!

Cowboys do, you know.

Your thread reminded me of two cowboy jokes, I have to try and do the first one from memory:

An American Indian, Muslim, and a cowboy were riding on a train through the midwest. As they rolled along, the Indian mused sadly, "My people once covered this entire area, we were many, now we are few" The Muslim sat up straight, and said proudly, "Well, my people once were few, now we are many." The cowboy slouched down further in his seat, and said from beneath his hat, "We ain't played Cowboys and Muslims yet..."

2nd cowboy joke:

An old cowboy sat down at the bar and ordered a drink.

As he sat sipping his drink, a young woman sat down next to him.

She turned to the cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "Well, I've spent my whole life breaking colts, working cows, going to rodeos, fixing fences, pulling calves, bailing hay, doctoring calves, cleaning my barn, fixing flats, working on tractors, and feeding my dogs, so I guess I am a cowboy."

She said, "I'm a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about women. When I shower, I think about women. When I watch TV, think about women. I even think about women when I eat. It seems that everything makes me think of women."

The two sat sipping in silence.

A little while later, a man sat down on the other side of the old cowboy and asked, "Are you a real cowboy?"

He replied, "I always thought I was but I just found out I'm a lesbian."

Actually, to be technically correct, President Bush was not classified as a cowboy by Texans until he bought his ranch in Crawford and put a few head on it.

However much earlier in his life he earned the more prestigious designation in Texas of Oil Field Trash.

What is a Cowboy ?

Well here's what I want to tell ya
about a wild kinda man
and one who wears some funny clothes
and he rarely wears a tan.

He ain't no California hippy
who rides them funny boards
and he ain't no damn Yank
who talks on phones with no cords

He's rarely seen on any coast
much less the big city
and he only likes to drive big trucks
not foreign ones, no-sir-e.

He ain't got much time for foolishness
unlike them city folk
who drive them fancy sports cars
instead of throwin' ropes.

Now he sure likes perdy women
and hopes to marry one
it's just his only problem is well,
he loves only one.

It seems the longer time goes on
the harder it is to find this man
and that's sure a sad ol' story
especially in this God' great land.

For it was the land that he was born
and made in who he is
a rough ol' ornery son of a gun
but a kind one to the end.

Cause he sure loves his animals
and knows their power true
and always takes good care a them
come rain or shine or you.

Now this man for which I talk
ya might a guessed by now
and it wouldn't surprise me
if ya said he rode a cow.

For cow is only half the name
that's given his fame,
and boy thats what his daddy taught
and thus it would remain.

What were common attributes of these legendary cowboys?

They were all either actors or fictional characters portrayed by actors?

What is your point, Peter Porcupine?

I'll mentioned one who wrote about cowboys...and lived a lot of it too.

Hre is the source:

My Heroes are Cowboys by Damon Wheeler, Frontpage Magazine - May 5, 2003.

I have a cool slide show using this great piece, but I have nowhere to host it. Any Freepers have room on their server? (About 33MB.)

My point should be obvious. Movie and TV actors who spent most of their time in Hollywood and radio performers who broadcast out of New York (or wherever) promoting breakfast cereals are rather thin fare, hero-wise. Fictional characters can entertain, but heroes should inspire and edify through real action--through being real people.

Pictures, text and music too if this site is the one I'm thinking of. Really makes you tear up if you love the West.
