Is there a shortage of eligible bachelors, or an overabundance of insecure women or both? That's a legitimate question, especially in lieu of the fact that convicted murderer Scott Peterson was on death row less than an hour before he got his first marriage proposal, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Any murder is bad enough, to be sure. But perhaps the oddest thing about Peterson's marriage proposal is that the ex-California fertilizer salesman was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife. "Three dozen phone calls came in to the warden's office on Peterson's first day at his new home in San Quentin State Prison -- women were pleading for his mailing address, and one smitten 18-year-old said she wanted to marry him," the paper said.
"Smitten?" Yes, say experts, even though as far as anyone knows, none of the women have yet to meet Peterson or spend any time with him.
Besides the thrill of marrying a "notorious" man, the paper reported, there is this fact: A death row inmate likely won't be coming home ever so if things don't work out, oh well.
"They love the celebrity status," Jack Levin, a criminologist who is director of the Brudnick Center on Violence at Northeastern University in Boston, told the Chronicle. Co-author of the book "Extreme Killing: Understanding Serial and Mass Murder," Levin said it examines "killer groupies," among other bizarre behavior surrounding the condemned.
Other notable notorious killers who garner much attention include:
* Twelve-year-old Polly Klaas' killer, Richard Allen Davis, who "probably gets more mail than most," San Quentin spokesman Eric Messick told the paper.
* Richard Ramirez, a Satan worshipper nicknamed "the Night Stalker" who killed 13 people, "has women virtually throwing themselves at him despite the fact he is already married," the Chronicle reported.
"You take our five highest-profile killers here, and you've got your answer about who the most popular inmates are," Messick said.
No, they are just plain stupid!
There are too many SICK people in this country.
And they say Terri Schiavo is brain damaged.
Quit calling me stupid. Until Michael Schiavo comes on the market, Scott Peterson is the best I can do.
LMAO! There's always Charles Manson.
If the Night Stalker can get marriage proposals, I guess Scottie can, too.
Sick, sick, sick.
What? When I'm available???
Are you in jail? Duh.
A little old lady is sitting on a park bench in Miami Beach. A man walks over and sits down on the other end of the bench.
After a few moments, the woman asks, "Are you a stranger here?"
He replies, "I used to live here years ago."
"So, where were you all these years?"
"In prison," he says.
"For what did they put you in prison?"
He looks at her, and very quietly says,"I killed my wife."
"Oh," says the woman. "So you're single.?"
That joke is supposed to take place in the Catskills. You left out all the good parts.
Nope. Miami. You missed the title...
What are the Menendez brothers? Chopped liver?
Although come to think of it, anywhere along the borscht circuit would work...
You get the boat...
"...What are the Menendez brothers? Chopped liver?..."
They should be.
I doubt it. Even if he were to write a book or sell movie rights, Laci's family could easily win a wrongful death suit that would take everything.
The overwhelming allure of the unobtainable...
No, not desperate. Just stupid. I've done some very minor research (consisting mainly of watching the Biography channel) on cults.
I'm now convinced that a small percentage of people will believe and do anything for attention or acceptance.
I intend to cash in on that by starting my very own cult, and bilking these people out of everything they own. I may demand sex from my female followers, if I can convince my wife that I owe it to my public.
Now thats funny!!!
My Fiance' said that the only reason to start a cult is to meet women. (he's also convinced he's next inline for the Popes seat!!!)
"You !@#$@!%@ women are all alike, just cruising for another pretty face in orange coveralls! You're breaking my heart, Xenalyte, breaking my heart!"
[sobbing, blurts out]
"Why can't I find another girl ready for commitment, like SQUEAKY!?!?!"
Well, Peterson is on death row in California. His odds of actually being executed are not real high. Had he done the murder in say, Texas, maybe he'd have a chance of getting whacked by the State.
No wonder I can't find a wife... guess I'm too "goody-goody". Sigh
XL - Take heart...Schindler's mistress will soon be promoted to wife and there will be a new opening for her current position. The vacancy announcement will be posted on Monster.com.
I remember during the oj trial..some goofball spokeslady for the killer said that he is getting a lot of letters of support for his "innocence"..and the former da of LA..whose name escapes me..said brilliantly..this is a large country with lots of loony people in it..they do not represent society or normal people..sadly..later..I might add..they represented the racist jury that sat in judment of the killer..but that is another post..killer greer in florida must be glad that oj killer lives in his state..maybe the two killers can play golf together and compare notes...
I hear ya. Women are off the wall these days. If you are a decent man, they don't want you.
Maybe these are women who wish to die. We should let them marry Peterson, then let him out so he can kill them. After all, these women have a "right to death", don't they? I mean, haven't we learned ANYTHING over the past 10 days?
Some women ... for reasons unknown to anyone ... like the "bad boys," even the ones who would beat them and make their lives miserable. The same women will ignore the good kid who would treat them like royalty. These women usually wake up around age 30, but by then it's too late.
Yeah, but a great proportion of women are attracted to sociopaths who aren't convicted murderers too. The attraction to the "bad guy" scenario is an observed phenomenon often speculated on--and the lame excuse often used is that the women want to mother them and rehabilitate them. More plausibly it is "like attracts its like".
My mind reels at how many times I've been in discussion with other guys lamenting and decrying the choice in men that many women seem to have an affinity for. A typical situation is a woman attracted to a guy that is psychologically abusive, indifferent, exploitive and controlling without having good looks, charm or money that would make sense of the situation. This almost seems like the norm--or at least out here in L.A.
And then the women so often complain that all men are loutish "abusers". Some of these gals figure things out when they are a lot older, but by then who cares?
You beat me to posting the same line of thought...
