Women Take Off Pounds With Stripaerobics

Instructor: Class Focuses On Building Confidence

UPDATED: 10:12 am EDT May 2, 2005

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- They're sexy, mysterious and always in great shape. Exotic dancers don't just strut their stuff in clubs -- they have become trendsetters.

It's a trend even celebrities are cashing in on. Carmen Electra's aerobic striptease is the hottest-selling fitness DVD on the market, reported WEWS-TV in Cleveland.

She lap dances, role plays and even uses props in her school of seduction.

Now women everywhere are daring to bare it all with one of the fastest-growing fitness crazes -- stripaerobics.

Linda Andrews teaches the class at Slender Lady in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, to housewives, professionals, moms and single women looking for a sensual way to get in shape.

"We feel that we're pretty much meeting a need in the fitness industry," Andrews said. "This is a big craze in big cities; New York, Chicago, there's pole dancing, strip dancing, belly dancing. So we're just responding to a need and the women came out."

Relerford said those who came out love the results.

"I've lost 10 pounds, so I'm really happy with the class, and I'm telling everybody I know," Selena Bank said.

The classes start with a few minutes of stretching. Then the women learn some sexy dance moves. The dancers put it all together in a routine that's complete at the end of the six-week course.

A lot of times people hear the term "stripaerobics" and assume the worst. But it is about sexuality, sensuality and gaining confidence.

"What they think about themselves determines how they feel," Andrews said. "And how they feel determines how they project themselves in public. I'm trying to teach them to be the best they can be and accept the results."

"I have two kids. It's just a nice thing to gain some confidence and feel sexy," Tina Basinger said.

Bill Clinton is reported to be a lead investor in the company marketing the CD.
After reportedly watching the DVD for 47 hours straight, Mr Clinton made the decision to be an investor and gained access to an account with his wife's name on it.
" Hillary has an account that says something about cattle futures on it" said the ex-president. "I only withdrew about a 3rd of the 28 million that was in the account for this DVD thing that I wanted to invest in."

I used to think I was the only guy who had no interest in strip clubs (never been inside one) until I met a radio colleague who told me he often had to take visiting clients out to dinner, and they invariably wanted to go to one of Dallas' famous topless joints. He said that every time the topless waitress approached the table, he'd stare at his menu because he was too embarrassed to look at her, and he kept having to fight the urge to apologize for being a member of the sex that created such a humiliating thing. I have a feeling that would probably be my reaction, too, so I don't understand the widespread appeal of these places, even to women.

ABC did a story about them a few weeks ago, interviewing strippers, and they uncovered a shocking fact: strippers really have no interest in the men watching them! They think they're pathetic suckers and are just trying to get as much money as possible out of them! Who'd a thunk it?

Women are in a never ending and fruitless search of a means of exercising without exercising. Step, Dancercise, Aerobics, Power-walking and the rest but, if you pay attention, you’ll notice that those forms of “exercise” are performed primarily by fat people.

However, you’ll never see fat people running, because running makes you thin.

If you want to be thin, run.

I'm a woman and I have no desire to go to a sprip club but the article is more about women wanting to learn to strip for their men. I can't imagine too many men not liking their wife/girlfriend learning how to strip and getting into shape at the same time.

Give me a break.

According to the libs, strippers probably make great "alternative lifestyle" role models for kids.

I hate to break the bad news to you libs out there, but contrary to liberal mythology, most strippers are not stripping to pay their way through college.

That picture of Carmen Electra is so Airbrushed, it looks like a cartoon. She never looked that good, and now is really aged.

Maybe Hil can take advantage of this latest craze and dance for Bill.

If you want to be thin ruin your knees, run.

If you want to be thin, and still keep your cartilage intact, WALK. Lots, a long way, up and down hill. Hiking with a pack is even better, so long as you don't overdo the load.

Your milage may vary, but I've been running since I was 12 (I'm 39 now) and my knees are fine.

The plain fact is that you never see fat runners.

You might try a treadmill.

You're lucky.

At my daughter's school, 100 percent of the PE instructors run, and 100 percent have had knee surgery.

I avoided ACL surgery (incurred injury in a fall from a horse) but I take it easy on the knees.

I agree that I don't see fat runners, but there are plenty of fat folks in our neighborhood TRYING to run . . .

I will note that I NEVER see a happy runner. They all look pretty distressed. My dog and I, on the other hand, are smiling. And the pounds do come off.

Ditto for those with back injuries. My doctor told me running is never recommended for those with back problems. The constant pounding on pavement is terrible for the spine.

Atlanta is not good bicycle territory.

Too many VERY steep hills, narrow roads, and bad traffic.

The one dedicated bicycle trail in our area (along an abandoned RR right of way) is clogged with cyclists who can't ride conveniently anywhere else. I don't mind the road bikers . . . it's the teenagers on rollerblades and the kid bombers on BMX bikes that scare me.

We can't all run. I'm 49 years old and I do well to walk at a pace of 4.8 to 5 miles per hour at a 1-4% incline for 60 minutes. And I'm not fat!

Swimming is better. My masters swim group meets at 6 in the morning though, so it kinda sucks for me, I will start again with it this summer. I love running. I have a 6 month old daughter, 20 month old son and 3 1/2 year old son. I can't exercise during pregnancy, so I am in need of getting in shape now, because of the small age difference of my last 2, it had been a long time since I had gotten in shape. I have 12 pounds to go and am scheduled to run a half marathon in June. I played basketball in college, so my knees aren't the best. Now I have to stretch before nad after running. Other than that, it is ok.

This latest fad is not about entertaining the spouse and getting in shape, it's about mainstreaming porn. Only in some men's fantasies are women loving wives, caring parents, competent managers and.....pro-am lap dancers.

I wonder so many of us are content to be reduced to the level of prostitutes in our clothing choices, surgery choices, language choices and now exercise choices?

Doesn't say much for women or the men who applaud this behavior.

Hey, if my wife wants to undress around me, I certainly don't dissuade her. I just mean I don't understand the chicness of sleazy, exploitative strip club behavior to women, from stripper aerobics classes to Britney Spears writhing on a stripper pole in front of an arena full of 14-year-old girls. There are also always lots of stories in the gossip press about big female stars like Demi Moore hanging out at Scores, gushing over the "dancers" and buying lap dances as if they were at an Avon party buying lipsticks with the girls. Something about all this just strikes me as creepy.
