The Media Scandal

Why is it that none of the major television networks or newspapers have managed to pay attention to the biggest real scandal of the 2006 campaign season, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's real estate shenanigans? According to yesterday's AP report, Reid pocketed a $1.1 million windfall on the sale of some Las Vegas property he didn't own at the time of the sale. This makes Hillary Clinton's futures trading venture look like amateur hour. And it's time for conservatives to act because the biggest scandal is that the media are burying the story.
According to the AP report, the deal was put together by Reid's longtime friend Jay Brown, "...a former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations." Apparently Brown structured the deal so that Reid could transfer his ownership interest to Brown without disclosing it to the public. And here's the kicker: Reid didn't disclose the sale on his financial disclosure forms filed with the Senate.
Not to make too big a deal of this, but falsifying that report - as Reid apparently did - is a federal crime. Under Title 18 US Code Section 1001, it's a false official statement. For which Reid could be sent to jail. If you're looking for this on tonight's network news or on the front page of tomorrow's New York Times (next to the newest revival of the Foley minutiae) you won't find it. There's ample time for Mark Foley, the discredited generals' revolt, and even the comprehensively discredited Lancet report on civilian casualties in Iraq. But cover a real scandal, with real misconduct that's punishable under federal criminal law?
Just imagine if this were Bill Frist, not Harry Reid. Calls for his resignation from Senate leadership (probably the Senate itself) would be loud and long, the Senate Ethics Committee would have already convened an investigation, the FBI would have been called in to verify the deeds and signatures and the 527 Media carrion crows would be in full cry. There would be front-page stories about connections to organized crime and lead items on the evening news about how this will sink the Dems' chances in November. But it isn't Frist, or any other Republican. It's Reid, on the verge of what the media hope is his tenure as Senate Majority Leader. So there's no reason to cover the story, right? The media culture says that's so.
Every talk show host should be booking the editors of the NYT, WaPo and LA Times, the news directors of CBS, ABC and NBC to ask why they aren't covering this story. Every columnist should be calling them for interviews. Just ask, "why aren't you covering this story?"

Fox and Friends had it on verrrry early this morning 6:00 a.m. EST but I haven't seen anything else since.
Rush covered the Dingy Harry scandal for most of today's show.
imagine that... a DNC scandal only covered on conservative radio, blogs, websites.... oh and EARLY morning (then DROPPED) on FauxNEWS.
I tell ya.... No matter how cynical I get, it's never enough to keep up!
1. Because they are so focused on the deficit at a four year low?
2. Because they devoted so much space to the news that the Dow is about to break 12000?
3. Because of their non stop all Foley all the time coverage?

The MSM is an organ of the Defeatocratic Party. Everyone knows this, even the MSM knows it and doesn't seem to care that THEY HAVE NO CREDIBILITY LEFT.

If members of congress, regardless of party affiliation, began following up on this sort of thing, there'd be no one left. They all do it, have done it, or will do it.
Therefore, there won't be much traction on this.

Good guess....but no.....it's because they are corrupt partisan liars that have no friggin interest in the truth or any other thing that might benefit Americans when it interferes in the pursuit of power by their ideological soulmates. The Networks along with their cable step-children are disgusting and shameful. I will work til my last breath exposing them for the lying bastards they are.

Every Republican that appears on the Sunday Morning Talk shows needs to mention this. That way the MSM can't avoid the issue.
MSM covers boy fags and fake death numbers. They are manipulators supreme.

It is probably alot more likely with the GOP poll numbers lagging. Desperation can definately change behavior. Where the hell is Ken Mehlman and the RNC? The RNC needs to call the media to task for their blatant hypocracy.

most of them will have only lib/dems on this weekend...talking about foley.....when will the republicans grow a pair and start talking this real scandal in the press...they seem to be too scared to say anything!!!!
Unfortunately, I don't think it will matter if the truth is known. My sister is a HUGE Harry Reid supporter. I cannot stand the guy, and I was so excited when I first heard about it. Harry Reid is a lowlife, who says he is pro life to get votes and then backs away from it.
I read through everything I could about this case and I honestly don't see anything there. He disclosed the land, but not the sale, because he never sold it. He transferred it to an LLC. He continued to list it on his filings until 2004, just didn't record it as part of the LLC. Maybe not technically correct, but nothing truly damaging. I would like to know how the profit was derived though.
With all that being said, I hope they continue to investigate this guy. There is bound to be something there. just sorry this isn't it.

It was on page 3 of the WP this morning. It should have been on the front page. The article was lengthy.
We all know the media blacks out scandals about liberals. They only do 24/7 coverage if a conservative is involved. Writing them does no good.
