...Despite a federal law that requires local governments to cooperate with Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency, many large urban cities (and some small) have adopted so-called "sanctuary policies." Generally, sanctuary policies instruct city employees not to notify the federal government of the presence of illegal aliens living in their communities. The policies also end the distinction between legal and illegal immigration -- so illegal aliens often benefit from city services too.
The justification of creating sanctuary cities is often under the guise of protecting "immigrant rights." But illegal aliens are not immigrants -- immigrants come to the US legally, and maintain their legal presence. When a person is illegally smuggled into the US or knowingly violates their visa restrictions -- he/she is not an immigrant or visitor, but an illegal alien subject to deportation. The real reason behind sanctuary policies are public officials bowing to political pressure from the open-border lobby -- and/or an attempt to pander for votes at election time...

Sadly, yes, my city is on the list. Good to know, now I can find out which candidates support altering this position.
SoCal ping list
Yes it is (well, at least the city I live in the hinterlands of...). And being that this is the case, I have been calling upon the CiC to coordinate with my governor to order the National Guard in to restore order and enforce the law. I have also been calling for an emergency measure to change governance to provisionally appointed administrators during the time when the traitors and criminals who currently run local government are prosecuted and punished.
Miami is on the list. Does this make it third world?
The Attorney General of my *state* has basically declared it to be a sanctuary state.
Kick them out of the Republic, financially, anyway.
I think they may need to add Wilmington to the NC list, even if it is unofficial.
Of course it is! Why, we also elected the first Muslim to congress! We are soooo progressive! **gag**

Did you look at the list? It's hard to find a major city that's NOT on the list: LA, NYC, Chicago, SF, Dallas, Denver, etc...
Egads. Sanford, Florida, is on the list. Can't imagine that would go over well if it were generally known to Sanford residents.
Yes it does. Ever been to Miami? The airport itself speaks volumes as English is seldom heard or spoken. At least understandably.
My entire state of Pennsylvania is not a Sanctuary City. You could have fooled me. lol.
The excuse most often used for this is that illegals would not report common crime and cooperate with police.
The inference, of course, is that illegal presence is not itself a serious crime. Or even a crime at all. When clearly it is.
"Sanctuary" is just PC speak for we "Support, Accept, and Encourage the presence of illegal alien invaders and colonists.
Miami, FL.
Oh yeah. Definitely not enforced here.
Miami is just a bastion of virtue!! It's even a "sanctuary city".
Immigration and the Alien Gang Epidemic: Problems and Solutions
In September, 2003, the Miami police arrested a Honduran visa violator for seven vicious rapes. The previous year, Miami cops had had the suspect in custody for lewd and lascivious molestation. Pursuant to Miamis sanctuary law, however, the police had never checked his immigration status. Had they done so, they would have discovered his deportable status, and could have forestalled the rapes.
The Miami Police Department will join with ICE only on high-level gang cases.

Gonzalez-Hernandez, 38, and Noel Lopez, 32, were arrested on Aug. 15 aboard a 25-foot boat after 20 Cuban nationals, including a pregnant woman and a 1-year-old boy, came ashore at the north end of the Judge S.S. Jolley Bridge at Marco Island.
They are charged with conspiracy to bring aliens into the United States. A subsequent indictment on Sept. 13 charged the men with "knowingly and willfully" bringing illegal aliens into the U.S.

Two leaders of a nationwide employee-leasing conspiracy, that leased out hundreds of illegal aliens throughout the United States, pleaded guilty before US District Judge Kenneth Marra in the Southern District of Florida, while a third defendant was sentenced, according to the US Justice Department.
"In using illegal aliens to generate their profits, the defendants not only took advantage of these individuals, but also potentially compromised the safety of our citizens," he added.
"In this case, the defendants laundered roughly $20 million and failed to pay $6 million in taxes as part of this illegal employee leasing scheme," said Julie Myers, Department of Homeland Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

IMMIGRANTS IN FLORIDA
Unions want to bring illegal immigrants into fold
That 180-degree shift in strategy provides a wealth of recruitment potential in bellwether states like Florida. Only about 6 percent of the Sunshine State's total work force is unionized. Only 2 percent of its all-important construction industry is organized compared with 13 percent nationwide.

Just damn.
The irony is that alleged conservatives support big centralized government control over local control.
This started under Nixon. Prior to Nixon, state and local government routinely asked the immigration status of a suspect. They extradited and deported with no involvement of the INS.
Then, under Nixon, the INS made a bureaucratic power grab. The INS issued an edict that only the INS could ask a person's immigration status. Both the FBI and state and local government, including law enforcement, schools, welfare agencies, etc could not directly ask about immigration status. They had to fill out the paper work to ask the INS to get involved and determine status and report back to the local agency.
The real Mayor Daley of Chicago fought this in Federal court and lost. The federal court found some penumbra that empowered the INS to unilaterally impose this edict on local government with no act of Congress, or even Executive Order. (Does the court order only apply to the district in which it is issued?)
Now, the chickens come home to roost. The Nixon era INS edict needs to be reversed by ICE/ congress/ courts/ whomever. We need to empower local government to ask a person's immigration status and act accordingly. We should not tie the hands of local government. If the citizens of a local government do not like what is being done by their local politicians, that is for them to deal with.
In the long run, centralized big government is the problem, not the mistakes of isolated local governments.
If an escaped felon were to be allowed safe passage, would you not be guilty of such a violation?

Whew, I'm ok now. Just had to get that out before I got back on my medications, provided by the "nanny state", BTW.
I noticed. It looks like Cypress is the only OC town on the list. Of course, the list is unverified and over 3 months old.
So are you suggesting that the Cuban Adjustment Act should have never been passed, that Miami should have remained the sleepy tourist town it was, and that Al Gore should be president?
Plenty of American citizens speak Spanish. I would guess from the tenor of your comment that you have a problem with that.
Not a city in Missouri on the list, I'm glad to say.
Wow, Jackson Hole, WY is on the list..must be all the skiing Kerrys importing their masshole liberalism every winter...

Wow. Thats quite an interpretation from an airport comment.

Mine isn't. I have to say, I am truly surprised. Whenever Border Patrol tries to stop illegals, they get in trouble, so I thought for sure it would be.
Send them an e-mail and see if they'll add it to the list.
The whole state of California is a "Santuary City".
Interesting. They got it wrong about my state, Connecticut. "Springfield, CT": There is no Springfield, CT. I assume they mean Sringfield, Massachusetts, a few miles north of the CT/MA border...
With the exception of a few communities which have gone out of their way to take action against the flood, almost all of the continental US is now sanctuary. I have friends in Alaska and illegal immigrants including those from south of our contiguous state borders find sanctuary there, too.
Courtesy of Rudolph Giuliani.
That shocked me too. I think the police in O.C. have probably just given up on Santa Ana, realizing that it's probably 75% illegal aliens, and a place where shootings are a nightly event. Mexican flags fly high there.
The illegals bring their violent culture with them as they sneak over the border.
Woohoo! Georgia's not even on the list. Hmmm, I wonder why?
8-)
I agree. the Feds cut off $ for states that don't adopt
55 PH for roads, etc. same deal.
cut off their funding .
No, but I would love to see our governor-elect to make our great state a conservative sanctuary. :)

My state isn't even on the list. . .of course up until February '06 I was in CA so this is truly a blessing. I LOVE small town Nevada!
