Channel 4 in Pittsburgh reporting that 747 has crashed in Sommerset County, southeast of Pittsburgh.

Different reports say plane may have been from New York or Cleveland bound for Chicago

Also heard on KDKA radio that a plane was hijacked from Allegheny County airport. Do not know if reports are related.

Somerset County is between Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. If you have ever driven on the PA Turnpike, that is where the 1-1/2 mile Allegheny Mountain Tunnel is located.

More likely to be Air National Guard. AFAIK, they still keep birds on alert. USAF would take longer to get birds ready. DC Air Guard IIRC F-16s. Top of Pentagon caves in, they report on ABC as I type. Burning like a mother. Completely caved in around center court, where A/C hit. IF it was a 747 then it was most likely from NYC JFK. 747s are usually for international flights and JFK is an international airport. JFK to CHI would be a likely route for a United or American aircraft as they have hubs in CHI. Pittsburg is a hub for US Air, but they have no 747s.
