FReepers with websites of their own
me
Posted on 10/18/2001 9:24:40 PM PDT by lafroste
I am curious to know how many FReepers have their own websites that they have to (or want to)contend with. I was thinking that if others have a website that we could exchange "buttons" to crosslink our sites. (a "button" is what I call a small (100 x 35 pixel) gif that links to a given site) Any FReepers interested in exchanging buttons? I post yours, you post mine? I put a "ButtonMania" table on my site and it looks pretty empty at the moment. (of course, it has only been up for about six hours)
I specifically did not post my site's URL because I don't want to risk my FR membership or appear to be "sneaking an ad" into FR. I know that would cheese me off if others posted ads here. If you email me I will send you the site url and/or the HTML code to insert my button into your site, and you can use that code as a template to send me code for your own site. All comments on this idea are appreciated.

One thing though, is the email service working right now? I don't have the familiar state flag and "You've got X messages!" since the conversion to the new format.

I think an FR webring would be a beautiful thing.

I own a couple of domain names. I used to have a site up running on a linux box but it is down at the moment. Too much other business to tend to at this time.
To: lafroste
Thanks, pally! Steal anything you like, and add a '2' to to homepage addy, and you'll get the 'gif' page.
Adding a '3' will take you to the nasty page, soon to be created.
Netscape is changing to a new system, so I don't know how long they'll be there, but I'll put up a new addy on my profile page on FR. Nice gif - I stole it! Stay well and vigilant, pal...FRegards

Mine's www.sociallyinept.com. It's a bitter humor site for guys that find themselves generally loathed by women.

I wouldn't worry about posting your URL, Lafroste. A lot of people who participate here run their own Websites, and routinely include the URL in what they post. I certainly do, as you can see from the signature block below. The Robinsons don't seem to mind, as long as you're not using FreeRepublic to sell something.
As for buttons, I haven't seen a good image that small in a while, and it's not space enough for a name of more than a few letters. That having been said, a pro-freedom, pro-America webring that links to FreeRepublic is a smashing idea, and I hope we can coordinate something like that among ourselves.

Gotta a site.. it is a resource CD set I have worked on for two years..
http://home.earthlink.net/~protocols/
The name of the site is... Military Field Manuals On CD... Cheap!
Excellent deal on info... The name says it all.. check it out.
BTW, I have never posted it here till now. I thought is was bad form but if that is all this thread is about, well, seems ok to me.
Is someone gonna organize all this info? I see no reason why we should not do business together.

Now, now Threadkiller. This is one of those types of threads that can be recylced every now and then. No harm done. Personally, I would have never thought to even look for a thread like this unless I had seen it. I'm glad it was started.

Well I ain't handing out URLs; mine still has embarrassing links to REM sites from my alternative rock days, haha...
One site I do go to play on occasionally is a yahoo club called "political persuasion"... There're some good discussions on it; many of the folks have conserv/lib leanings and it's always intellectually stimulating... If anybody wants an invitation to join and post, I can email the founder to send you one.

Interesting results. There are quite a number of FReepers which have web sites, but very few which have websites that are for business purposes. I expected to see many more "commercial" type sites than what is showing here.Well, there is Texas Rose, lafroste and MadIvan but MI is not even close to being an "all commercial" site. There is lotsa free stuff there also.
Checking a few things. . .

Here's a commercial site for you. Myself and another Freeper (Claud) just started a new publishing company specializing in epic fantasy/adventure books. If you want to check out our still-under-construction site, go here:
Arx Publishing, LLC
To see Claud's old company (which is now an imprint of the new one) and specializes in American language studies, go here:
Evolution Publishing
This site isn't purely commercial as it offers a lot of free info on Native American languages, American dialects, and Italic languages.
To: MadIvan
Love the site, Ivan. I've bookmarked it for future reference. Like Free Dominion! Anyone know if there's a FreeIreland.com yet?
To: lafroste
OK I looked in the provided links on the FR opening page and there is a selection there for "freeperstuff" but is is kinda hidden in the list as the list is somewhat long and has several categories.Anyone else interested in either joining/promoting this category to a individual (.gif) link or getting a different link on the FR opening page? Jim will get a % of the proceeds and FReepers could do biz with other FReepers. The current link seems to just be promoting bumperstrips, T-shirts.... basically FR logo type stuff. Not exactly a marketplace environment.
Any ideas or insight on this?

I like your idea. I bought a domain hoping to create a following that I could turn into a sindicated column. I get published in the local rag pretty regularly; but that won't get me too far.
However, without being able to get linked anywhere, the number of hits I am getting is dismal. Heck, I've even lost heart in posting new editorials; no one reads them, except for the 1 I'm allowed to post in the local rag every 2 months! And it never fails that after I get notice that I'm going to be published, another story breaks that I would have rather written about.
Please keep me informed about any developments on this, and yes, I'd be happy to add people to my link page, if their pages fit in with my goals for my page. I'm pretty sure that most of the people here would.

Also very interesting as I have extensive family history from the Virginia Colonies (John Ellis, Virginia Colonies, about 1640) and a rather colorful ancestor (among many other "colorful" ancestors) with the last name of Powhatan in the early 1800's as I remember. He was a Colonel or Major as I recall, I haven't read the family history in a while, (Ellis, Twenty-five Families of the South). Here is the entry I found on your sight...A Dictionary of Powhatan
The largest vocabulary ever collected of Powhatan, approximately 1000 entries compiled by William
Strachey around 1612. This edition is based on Major's 1849 printing of the British Museum manuscript;
with variant forms and extra words cited from the Bodleian manuscript. Two supplementary word-lists
of Virginia Algonquian are also included: nine words from an anonymous relation of 1607 attributed to
Gabriel Archer, and 29 words from Robert Beverley's 1705 "History and Present State of Virginia."
Features an introduction by Powhatan scholar Frederic Gleach.
William Strachey
clothbound, 107 pp.
ISBN 1-889758-01-9
1999 ~ $36.00
I will be dragging out the CC tonight ordering a copy. But this takes me back to my point. We (FReepers) should be doing business with each other. If it were not for this thread I would have never heard of this book.
