America in need of a totally new immigration policy
Jewish World Review ^ | Oct. 30, 2001 | Linda Bowles

Posted on 10/30/2001 4:48:47 AM PST by SJackson

OUR national borders are the front lines of America's war against terrorism. It should come as no surprise to anyone that our borders are being overrun. They are open doors to the easy entry, legal and illegal, of those who would do us harm.

The facts are beyond refutation. At this moment, there are more than 31 million people living in the United States who were born in a foreign country. This is an increase of 11.3 million, or 57 percent, since 1990.

At this moment, between 9 and 10 million immigrants are illegally living in the United States. The illegal population in America has increased by an average of 500,000 per year for the last 10 years. None of them was checked for criminal records, diseases, ability to support themselves, or connections with terrorist groups.

Surely it must be clear, even to those who consider it an act of bigotry to restrict any kind of immigration, that if a poor Mexican laborer can successfully sneak into the country, so can terrorists whose primary purpose is to kill as many Americans as possible.

Some of those illegally in America came on student visas and never showed up for school. Others came on temporary visas of one sort or another, and stayed after their visas expired. We don't know where they are or what they are doing. There is no tracking system. There is no follow up.

In granting visas, we investigate backgrounds sloppily or not at all. We make no special effort to check out or bar entry to students or visitors from Iraq, Sudan, Iran, Libya, Syria, Cuba and North Korea, all of whom are on the State Department's list of countries that sponsor terrorist groups. They have no trouble entering our country.

Steven A. Camarota is director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies. In testimony prepared for the Senate Judiciary Committee, he said, "The current terrorist threat to the United States comes almost exclusively from individuals who arrive from abroad ... America's borders are a major theater of operations. ... the weapons of our enemies are not aircraft carriers or even commercial airliners, but rather the terrorists themselves."

....snip....

For decades, liberal elitists and globalists have effectively squelched debate by labeling as "racist" or "uncaring" anyone who wished to talk honestly and realistically about the problem of immigration. For decades, the Democrat Party has nixed any attempt to stem the flow of third-world immigrants into America's slums and ghettos, knowing they would all vote the straight Democrat ticket. For decades, various businesses have welcomed and exploited cheap immigrant labor.

We need a totally new immigration policy, one which reflects the philosophy of Theodore Roosevelt: "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. ... The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

Bump. Very encouraging to see a publication like JWR publish an article like this. As I've said several times, a sane immigration policy may be the silver lining of the 9-11 tragedy.

I hope you are not dreaming, but most likely you are. In the last year 30 million visas were issued.

If I didn't know better, I would say that Linda Bowles has been reading Free Republic. We were saying this long before 9-11.

HELLO WASHINGTON. IS ANYBODY HOME?

Yeah, we need a new immigration policy. We should re-institute the national origins basis for assigning alotments per country for immigration. We should ban any Muslim from immigrating to the U.S. They are ALL third columnists seeking to convert us to an Islamic Sharia-based theocracy, either through the bullet or the ballot and large families.

And NO MORE MEXICANS. Their quota is filled through the next two centuries.

...a sane immigration policy may be the silver lining of the 9-11 tragedy.

I've seen too many Republicans on c-span and Fox News saying, 'if we change our immigration policy, then the terrorist have won' to believe that any serious modifications will be made.

Sure, there will be some cosmetic changes for show but if we're talking about substantial restrictions regarding Mexican illegals, I don't believe 9/11 is going to alter the status quo. America is running on cheap labor and political correctness.

I hope real changes are coming but I'm not holding my breath.

My money says that they will find every and any way to twist and contort immigration rules to allow "migration" labor to continue unabated and illegals will continue to roam our streets.

Immigration reform is simply not politically correct, regardless of the real threats.

I see that around here, too. Call the INS and the local cop shop.... that's what I do.

I don't think they care or going to do anything about it. These are tomorrow's legal resident, remember?

Come here to CA and go to any car wash, construction site etc. They are all swarming with illegals.

This the problem in a nutshell. 90% of Americans do not want more immigration, but a few powerful elites have been able to impose their will on an entire nation.

Didn't Linda Bowles want to legalize all illegals before the September llth tragedy? I would imagine that that issue will always be in the forefront of any new immigration program put forth by the Bush administration.

I'm thinking now it was the Chavez (sp) lady who called for mass amnesty instead of Linda Bowles. Yes, let the illegal immigrant lovers come and post their crap against my views; I'm more than ready to meet them.

"Very encouraging to see a publication like JWR publish an article like this."

This has been Buchanan's message since 1992.

Why do folks bow when the JWR publishes such thoughts and throw stones when Buchanan advances them?

I honestly think that Pat was appreciated for his defense of borders attitude and castigated that he was fixated on this as a "Mexican problem", of too many mexicans.

Chavez was a strong advocate of amnesty for illegals and also of English immersion in the schools.

I don't think Linda Bowles ever was. It's a problem we will have to deal with at some point.

I think that one of the main reasons that our immigration policies are so wretched is that the politicians are not held accountable. The reason that they are not is that you see or hear not a word about how so and so has voted on such and such a bill.

I have found out how my Representative has voted or not on some important bill, and am sending my findings to about sixty people (who probably voted for her) to enlighten them.

It will cost me about twenty dollars, but if enough people would that, we might make them think about what they are doing. jimthornley@mindspring.com

The following is the text of a letter that I have sent to sixty one people in my congressional district who probably voted for the person that I am referring to The only difference is that I use her real name in the letters.

This is the only way we are going to held those idiots accountable.

What do you think?

Dear fellow patriot:

Shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack Senator Diane Feinstein and others in Congress proposed legislation that would temporarily close the borders to foreigners entering the country on student visas. One of the hijackers was in the country on a student visa who said that he would study English at Holy Names College in Oakland but he never showed up there.

Your representative, Ms. Nobrains anounced to a local newspaper that she is opposed to the plan. This is no surprise, concidering her past positions on immigration.

The following is a summary of your Representative Nobrains record on the issue of immigration and illegal aliens.

1. On chain migration: In 1996 she supported provisions that allow immigrants to send for their adult relatives. Then each of these relatives can send for their and their spouses relatives, and on and on.

2. In 1998 she voted for more foreign workers even though American firms were laying off thousands of citizen workers.

3. In 1998 she voted to allow companies to lay off workers to make room for these foreign workers.

4.Several times she had the opportunity to support bills that would refuse automatic citizenship to babies born to illegal aliens. She didn’t do so.

5.In 2000 she voted against authorizing the use of US troops at the borders to control the invasion of illegals.

6. In 2000 she signed a letter to President Clinton supporting the giving amnesty to 3.4 million illegal aliens then in our country.

7. In 1998 she co-sponsored a bill to reward illegal aliens with amnesty.

8. Voted AGAINST killing pro-illegal-alien Section 245(i) program in 1997

9. Co-sponsored 1999 amnesty for one million illegal aliens

10. Co-sponsored 1999 amnesty for one million illegal aliens

11. At another time Rep. Nobrains co-sponsored H.R.36, thereby working to put about one million illegal aliens on the road to citizenship.

Details of these acts below.

Tell Congresswoman Nobrains what you think of her immigration record.

included phone and phax as well as e-mail address.

Detailed explanation of the issues above.

1. Rep. Nobrains in 1996 voted for the Chrysler-Berman Amendment to H.R.2202. By doing so she supported provisions that allow immigrants to send for their adult relatives. Then each of those relatives can send for their and their spouse's adult relatives, creating a never-ending and ever-growing chain. The bi-partisan Barbara Jordan Commission recommended doing away with the adult-relative categories and chain migration (begun only in the 1950s) in order to lessen wage depression among lower-paid American workers. Barbara Jordan was a black Rep. from -I think- someplace in Texas. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago. She was a great spokeslady for immigration control.

Rep. Nobrains vote was important; the reformers were only 28 votes short of approving the end of chain migration. Rep. Nobrains helped continue a level of immigration that the Census Bureau projects will result in a doubled U.S. population in the next century.

2. Importing Specific Foreign Workers In 1998 Rep. Nobrains helped the House pass H.R.3736. Enacted into law, it increased by nearly 150,000 the number of foreign workers high-tech American companies could hire over the next three years. Although the foreign workers receive temporary visas for up to six years, most historically have found ways to stay permanently in this country. Rep. Nobrains voted for more foreign workers even though U.S. high tech workers over the age of 50 were suffering 17% unemployment and U.S. firms were laying off thousands of workers at the time.

3. She voted in 1998 to allow firms to lay off Americans to make room for foreign workers Before the House passed the H-1B doubling bill (H.R.3736), Rep. Nobrains had an opportunity to vote for a Watt Substitute bill that would have forbidden U.S. firms from using temporary foreign workers to replace Americans. Rep. Nobrains opposed that protection.

4. Pregnant Mexican women by the hundreds cross into the US to get free prenatal care and delivery as well as care for the baby who is automatically a citicen entitled to all of the benefits of other citizens. Nobrains has had several opportunities to support bills correcting this travesty. She has always declined to do so.

5. Voted in 2000 against authorizing troops on the border. “Come on in, Folks”.

6.Signed letter to President Clinton supporting an amnesty in 2000. Rep. This was an action in support of Rep. Conyer's amnesty act, H.R.4966, that would grant amnesty to some 3.4 million aliens from Central America and Haiti. This would be the largest amnesty in the history of the country.

7. She co-sponsored bill to reward illegal aliens with amnesty in 1998 Rep. Nobrains co-sponsored H.R.3553 which would have rewarded almost 1.2 million illegal aliens from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Haiti by putting them on the path to U.S. citizenship. This amnesty would have been IN ADDITION to the one passed in 1997 for almost one million Cubans, Nicaraguans and other long-time resident illegal aliens from Central America.

8. Voted AGAINST killing pro-illegal-alien Section 245(i) program in 1997 Given the chance to vote against a notorious pro-illegal immigration program called Section 245(i), Rep. Nobrains declined. The Section 245(i) program dealt with certain illegal aliens who were on lists that could qualify them eventually for legal residency.

Co-sponsored 1999 amnesty for one million illegal aliens from Central America and Haiti which would make them permanent legal residents.

Rep.Nobrains co-sponsored H.R.36, thereby working to put about one million illegal aliens from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala , including their spouses and children, on a path to U.S. citizenship. Rep. Nobrains advocated rewarding those who violated U.S. immigration laws by making them permanent lawful U.S. residents.

How much of this did you hear from Newspapers of television? Practically none, I dare say. You must get informed before you vote. Your childrens future depends on it.

Its a few politicians who want the votes, to heck with every thing else. I use to go down in Mexico several times a year (fixen to start again, to get my prescription drugs with the monthly price tag of over 500 bucks) and would see twin engine planes flying just off the ground with their loads of dope. What bothered me, it could have been Aboms aboard.

When you go OUT of the USA to another country you have to live by their rules to the T like in the Central American and South American countries, you go to their agencies for extended stays, and walk among machine gun mounted jeeps to stand in long lines to get and extention. We must have stronger laws for immigration and that these laws be enforced.
