ISRAEL DISCLOSES ITS NUCLEAR OPTION

TEL AVIV [MENL] -- For the first time, Israel has allowed an open discussion of its nuclear program.

The discussion is contained in a new documentary on Israel's nuclear capability. It is the first time the government has allowed the production and airing of such a program.

In contrast to previous documentaries on the subject produced abroad, Israeli leaders agreed to be interviewed. Foreign Minister Shimon Peres reviewed the history of Israel's nuclear program and its cooperation with France in the 1950s and 1960s.

Neither Peres nor any other Israeli official acknowledges that the Jewish state has nuclear weapons. Previous assessments have asserted that Israel has up to 200 nuclear warheads.

The documentary, "A Bomb in the Basement Israel’s Nuclear Option," was produced in France, Israel and the United States and quotes former U.S. officials recalling Washington's opposition to Israel's nuclear program. The documentary will be aired in Israel on Sunday.

"We thought it was a mistake on Israel’s part to develop nuclear weapons," Paul Warnke, former chief U.S. arms control negotiator, said.

The screening of the documentary comes amid Israel's quiet debate on increasing its nuclear deterrence in face of Iran's development of atomic weapons. Former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has privately urged a change in Israel's policy of nuclear ambiguity once Iran is assessed at having a nuclear weapon, expected as early as 2004.

France supplied most of the components and technology for Israel's nuclear program. The French secretly constructed the nuclear reactor in Dimona, which remains off-limits to international inspection. The project was supervised by French Atomic Energy Commission director Francois Perrin.

"Francois Perrin called [then-French Prime Minister] Guy Mollet the day after my visit and told him that Israel should be supplied with a nuclear bomb," former French defense official Abel Thomas said. "That's how it was."

The documentary quotes what it termed foreign sources as saying that Israel declared a nuclear alert three times in its history. The sources said that during the 1970s, Israel built three to five atom bombs annually and today has an arsenal of at least 200 nuclear weapons.

The film quotes military analyst and commentaror Ze’ev Schiff as saying that he was the only journalist allowed to tour the Dimona nuclear facility.

I prefer to think of it as Self-Preservation. How arrogant of me to want to live in peace.

Palistinians aren't citizens and don't want to be Israeli citizens. Why would they get the right to vote? According to them, they already have their own country. You can't have it both ways. They either assimilate into Israel, and behave like civilized citizens, or vote in their own country.

Palestine was a name made up by the Romans after they caused the diaspora. It was derived from Phillistine, a people the Israelites wiped out hundreds of years earlier. The romans called the lands of Judea, Samaria, etc., Palestine as an insult to Jews they committed genocide against.

Read Joseph Farah on WND, he knows the truth that PALs are afraid to admit.

Israel and the U.S. always does the dirty work for Muslims.

Whether its blowing up nuke plants in Iraq (Iran & Israel were friends then) or saving Kuwait from the Iraqis.

You may also note that there was no country of Israel for a couple thousand years. Whatever you call it, those people.. those Palestinians.. who are fighting for their property, resources and culture have been in the area for about 5,000 years. Rest assured the Palestinians did not immigrate from Europe.

You will also note that the Jews left Palestine to go to Egypt when there was famine, but ultimately they couldn't get on with the Egyptians either. I have often wondered about that.

Dumb statement: There was no Israel until 1948

From a few thousand years ago we read in the Bible:

Gen.15:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Deut.11:24 Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.

Josh 1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, 2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

1Sam.13:19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears: 20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his ax, and his mattock. 21 Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads. 22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan:[great pro-2nd amendment argument here] but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

Ezek.37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. 12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, 14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

In 1903 at the Zionist Conference in Basel Switzerland the speakers, who were European and American Jews, constantly referred to "Palestine".

There's been a "Sahara desert" for a long time too... to have a name to refer to a region means nothing in and of itself. Palestine has never been a self-ruled place. It was always under someone else. Why stop now?

You know, that's a good point someone just made. How can you justify a Palestinian state on the basis that Chaucer and Shakespear mentioned the region of Palestine, but not justify Israel when biblical literature mentions Israel as a country far earlier? Why are Shakespeare and Chaucer so much more important than the authors of the Bible?

Israel is hardly economically successful. What can you be thinking of? Palestinians provide cheap labor and the US provides a tremendous amount of foreign aid since the early 1950s, but Israel doesn't have any natural resources and you must know that the tech sector and the tourism sector are both in the tank.

Then how will a Palestinian state survive? Who'll be supporting them? If it's another country, an Arab country, will that invalidate them the way you seem to think our support of Israel invalidates their sovereignty?

Not quite. You're guilty of reifying here. There is no such group as Native American Indians. That's just a unitary term applied to a large number of different populations of different languages, religions, histories, and even distinct genetic differences which all happened to be occupying different geographical areas, fighting each other, making alliances, moving around, moving in, displacing other groups. And, no, "America" doesn't belong to them except to the extent that they are born into America as American citizens.

THANK YOU!!!
