|ISRAEL DISCLOSES ITS NUCLEAR OPTION
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- For the first time, Israel has allowed an open discussion of its nuclear program.
The discussion is contained in a new documentary on Israel's nuclear capability. It is the first time the government has allowed the production and airing of such a program.
In contrast to previous documentaries on the subject produced abroad, Israeli leaders agreed to be interviewed. Foreign Minister Shimon Peres reviewed the history of Israel's nuclear program and its cooperation with France in the 1950s and 1960s.
Neither Peres nor any other Israeli official acknowledges that the Jewish state has nuclear weapons. Previous assessments have asserted that Israel has up to 200 nuclear warheads.
The documentary, "A Bomb in the Basement Israels Nuclear Option," was produced in France, Israel and the United States and quotes former U.S. officials recalling Washington's opposition to Israel's nuclear program. The documentary will be aired in Israel on Sunday.
"We thought it was a mistake on Israels part to develop nuclear weapons," Paul Warnke, former chief U.S. arms control negotiator, said.
The screening of the documentary comes amid Israel's quiet debate on increasing its nuclear deterrence in face of Iran's development of atomic weapons. Former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has privately urged a change in Israel's policy of nuclear ambiguity once Iran is assessed at having a nuclear weapon, expected as early as 2004.
France supplied most of the components and technology for Israel's nuclear program. The French secretly constructed the nuclear reactor in Dimona, which remains off-limits to international inspection. The project was supervised by French Atomic Energy Commission director Francois Perrin.
"Francois Perrin called [then-French Prime Minister] Guy Mollet the day after my visit and told him that Israel should be supplied with a nuclear bomb," former French defense official Abel Thomas said. "That's how it was."
The documentary quotes what it termed foreign sources as saying that Israel declared a nuclear alert three times in its history. The sources said that during the 1970s, Israel built three to five atom bombs annually and today has an arsenal of at least 200 nuclear weapons.
The film quotes military analyst and commentaror Zeev Schiff as saying that he was the only journalist allowed to tour the Dimona nuclear facility.
Interesting. Just who are the UAIFs, and can you show anything in which these people did that?
3 MILLION JEWS ARE WORTH MORE THAN BILLIONS OF:
What Have ISLAMICS Contributed To The World Community?
And The Answer IS:
Just to name a Few..OH...and THERE IS MORE!
Get Your Head Out Of The Sand...and Take A Good Hard Look Around The World, And See What These DEMONS Are Doing!
Here's Another FACT:
The Palestine...Palestinian MYTH: Propaganda Being Ramed Down Our Collective Throats Is...
A BIG LIE...Perpetuated By ISLAMIC SHILLS...
And If The Shoe/Sandal Fits...WEAR IT!
Now Get On Your DONKEY and Say...BUH BYE!
You're not a racist, are you?
You said it JUST right!!!Right on!!
I was thinking about their GDP of $110 billion and their central government's budget of $45B annually. Foreign aid helps but is not essential. With a per capita income of over $18,000 this is greater than many EU nations (as is their state budget... twice as large as Ireland with similar demographics). This is 5-6 times greater than any of her neighbors Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria.
Imagine how much better this picture would look if they didn't have to devote so much money to fighting off 5 attacks in 50 years.
I'm not sure what you are referring to, but how is this different from us attacking the Taliban in Afghanistan? The Taliban didn't attack us, but they supported ouor attackers, so we attacked the Taliban.
What would you have us do, withdraw our savings from bank and burn all our savings, and quit our jobs where WORK hard for our MONEY. And return to the backward times like your Islamics live in?!
Islamic muslims suck!
OH, and they treat females like dogs, and allow them NO education! How about that eh??!
That's why those Islamic Palestinians hang around Israel, like vultures, attracted to the money making situations, while at the same time, thinking of and implementing schemes to murder all Israelis. Sorta like wanting to have their cake, and eating it too! Or having their cake, and destroying it too! What a bunch of losers!
She is prolly just jealous that GOD has blessed the USA,Britain,Canada,Australia, and Israel with great economies, while their so called "Allah" or whatever , seems to have forgotten his beloved islamic muslims. That's how I see it.
The Egyptians would have none of it. The economic success of Israel can be duplicated by any nation that values education, cooperation, understanding. The only Islamic state I can think of that comes close to these values is Turkey. Any nation that subjucates women, places little value on education, is not responsive to the economic desires of their citizens, and encourages war is going to be a wasteland. Unfortunately, this describes almost all of the Arab states. Only the Oil states have been able to avert it to some degree (Saudi Arabia has over 20% unemployment despite all the riches) but that is obviously due to oil money. Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt could be as successful as Israel but they are going to have to overthrow their leaders, open their societies, and value the things we in the west value. Until then they will remain far behind.
I support israel, and their struggle for a homeland, in the area known loosely now as palestine, and I support them doing whatever it takes to live secure inside their borders.
Second, I think it's safe to assume that yes, they have used blackmail against the US in the past, and they do target us with penetrations-spying-using every trick in the book.
Third, I also have no doubt that if push came to shove, they would blackmail the US and some other western nations with a nuke strike, or other WMD strike or strikes -or very credible threats of same- if it looked like we were going to abandon them in some war.
Fourth, because of the above views, I would hope we hold them as allies, but not forget it's ALWAYS every nation for itself. I'm a USA-firster, always.
April 6, 1998
On April 6, 1998, System Planning Corporation (SPC) hosted a roundtable discussion for the Rumsfeld Commission to discuss the ballistic missile threat to the United States from Israel, Libya and Egypt. Dr. Seth Carus of the National Defense University led the discussion. Dr. Dov Zakheim of SPC also participated. The following is a summary of the meeting, and highlights key areas of consensus.
Israel's ballistic missile program dates back to several missile and rocket programs in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Israel's military research and development establishment developed two missiles: the Luz, with a range of 27 km, and the Shavit II rocket, an experimental system.
Zakheim and Carus agreed that the Jericho I was Israel's first true ballistic missile program. They both asserted that little is known about the system, and that there is considerable debate about the range and payload specifications of the system. Some have stated that the missile has a range of 260 km, while others assert that it could be as great as 750 km. It is generally agreed that Israel has or had between 50-100 Jericho I missiles and that it was designed as a nuclear delivery vehicle.
The participants also agreed that Israel initiated development of a follow on to the Jericho I, the Jericho II in 1985. The Israelis initiated a series of test launches of this missile into the Mediterranean between May 1987 and March 1992. These missiles were tested to a range of 1300 km (800 miles), although little is known about the payload specifications during these tests.
It is believed that this missile is more accurate than the Jericho I. It is also believed that the missile is very similar to the Pershing II missile, and that it has a radar terminal guidance system. It is unknown how many Jericho II missiles Israel has deployed, and whether they are armed with nuclear warheads.
Jericho II B
There are reports that Israel is building a follow on to the Jericho II, the Jericho II B, also known as the Jericho III. This missile could carry a 1000 kg payload to a range of 2,800 km.
Carus noted that Israel has derived much of its ballistic missile technology from its space launch program, particularly from the Shavit space launch vehicle. It appears that the Jericho II's first two stages are identical to the Shavit's. Carus also concluded that a ballistic missile based on the design of the Shavit's first two stages could carry a 900 kg payload to a range of 4,850 km (3,000 miles), and a 500 kg payload to 7,600 km (4,700 miles). Both of the participants agreed, however, that Israel will probably not attempt to develop a missile with a range beyond that of the Jericho II B. There are no strategic advantages to do this.
