I am asking for help for my son in Eastville Virginia. He was arrested for possesion of stolen merchandise(car) and methamphetamines. He has no money to hire an attorney and his court appointed lawyer will not return his calls. This is not a bad kid,Your daughter, wife or sister would be in the best of hands if in trouble and he was there to help. I am not saying he is not guilty by the legal sence of the word nor am I saying he is guilty.

This young man of 22 years needs legal help and right now he doesn't know wich way to turn. It is not easy for me to ask this forum for help, but if someone could steer me in the right direction of someone in the North Hampton area it would be greatly appreciated.

Friend, there could be some help if this was a first offense. But these are serious crimes. If there are an priors he would be in great trouble. I would suggest contacting a local attorney ASAP. SORRY FOR the news.

The court appointed attorney will be in touch. They have an unbelievable case load and work it off the best they can. He could probably arrange for private representation, if the case isn't complex, for $500-$750. That is what it cost me for a relative facing the same charges.

Yes it is serious,I am in Texas and Know no one in the area, that is why I am asking for help.
To: eastforker
I don't know anyone in that area but I will bump it for someone who might be able to help.
I'm sorry about your news. I hope you can find some help for your son. Maybe he needs some help other than just legal.

Get on the web and research attorneys in that area. I'm in Northern Virginia and do not know any lawyers down that way. Get on the phone and talk to a couple of them and work out some representation. Many lawyers will work with you long distance and set a fixed fee within certain parameters. Public Defenders just have too much on their plate to do an adequate job. Virginia is no more lax on crime than Texas so get him some help if you can.

Prayers going up for you and your son. I just put a call into a friend of mine who is an attorney in DC to see if she knows someone. She is calling me back momentarily. I will get back as soon as I talk with her.

You are correct, this happened over a month ago and only after today did I go to bat for him after his admitting his careless ways and the desire to change.I know he didn't steal the car but he knew the friend with him had the drugs and therefore he is to blame for associating with druggies. He also confided he hated the life he was living, first step out of denial.Yes he does need help.

I know some shysters that do good work. Court systems are networks. They all know each other and finagling, or shysterism, is rampant. All you have is your intuition. Use it.

Thank you TB9,it was very difficult and awkward for me to ask for help but I know someone in FReeperland knows someone that can.

Why not try posting this on the Virginia board...you may get more attention from people in the area this way.
I wish you the best of luck with your son.

BTW, my relative was up on charges for a second offense. First offense was a B&E for which he received a suspended sentence. Second offense was similar to your son's offense. He spent 10 months locked up in a county facility and received probation. I hope this is a first offense for your son. My prayers are with you buddy. I know how upsetting it can be.

I would suggest going to your local (big) library and looking in the Martindale Hubbell reference books for a lawyer in the Eastville Area. Martindale Hubbell also has a
web site, but it does not have the lawyer ratings that the books do. The ratings are given by other lawyers, and while not perfect, will give you a leg up on avoiding duds. Look for a specialist in criminal law of course.
