Nice post. . .We just spoke to our son, who is stationed at Camp Pendleton (for the time being). . .We're very proud of him, and all Marines, past, present and future.

It is the Soldier...
"It is the soldier, not the reporter, who gave us Freedom of the Press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who gave us Freedom of Speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.
It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
It is the soldier whose bravery and sacrifice made it possible for the protester to burn the flag.
GOD BLESS THE SOLDIER

Here's a Viet Nam Marine, 1st LAAM Bn. In California, but I started celebrating with the troops on the float, their in a differant time/date line. So I got started for them. I'll continue in my own time/date zone when it arrives.

Happy Birthday, Gyrenes!
BOY, this place could be a recruitment station for the United States Marine Corps!
I feel like I belong to a select group of people who are both Marines and FReepers.

You are among a select group of Freepers and Marines! There are lots of Marines on this thread and from time to time we find each other!
Today, let's take a moment to remember our fallen brothers and sister Marines too... like Chief! He is missed on these threads. I think of him often and remember his first FreepMail which I kept on my list of fm... Chief... hope those Marines and angels in heaven pass inspection today and don't forget to give God the first slice of birthday cake...
