donate them to charity and write the estimated cost off from your income tax. That way someone else gets something for little or nothing, and you get a tax write off.

Of course, keep good records, including how you estimated the current price (software and electronics prices go down quickly for used items).

Heck, if it worked for Clinton's underware, it will work for you.

Seriously, I did this with my piano when my kids grew up: Got an estimate from a used piano store, and gave it to a local church school that needed a piano.

In the early 1980's, I purchased a new Commodore Plus-4 computer one Saturday for about $1500. On Monday, while reading the morning paper, I noticed an article stating that Commodore was discontinuing and would no longer support--the Plus-4. (My luck!)

My 1974 Plymouth Volare. The worse car ever made. The Yugo is a Rolls-Royce compared to this motorized aberration.

A Power Computing Macintosh clone that never worked right. My one consolation was that the company ended up going broke.

In 1977 I bought a Betamax Stereo VCR for about $700. It was great until about the early eighties when the Betamax movies suddenly started to disappear. Still have it in the original box in the basement.

I will admit the Betamax format IS surperior to VHS (Har-de-har-har).

I spent $375 for a HP calculator in 1972.

I could only afford to spend $200 for a TI calculator back then. Now you can buy all it did for about $15.

A few years back my husband and I scrapped up $200 to buy 4MB of RAM. Naturally it wasn't but a couple months later the price of these things went right through the floor, and they were just about giving these things away in boxes of ceral!
