Hong Kong Chef Caught With....

United States - A 76-year-old chef heading home to Hong Kong was caught at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport carrying two meat cleavers in his carry-on bag, police said.

There was NO indication that chef Sung-Mok had any intention of doing any harm with the meat cleavers, which are commonly used by cooks, but he WAS charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, a misdermeaner, police said.

Then why the hell was he charged. This is a waste of time for the courts and the police. Some COMMON SENSE would go a LONG way in all of this. Typical...though of how good people are being punished while the real terrorists roam freely about.

How 'bout we just let the poor guy CHECK the knives. He's obviously way out of touch if he was stupid enough to bring them openly to security.

This is true of all laws, particularly firearms.
It is much easier to nail the innocent citizen.
After all, it can get dangerous applying the laws to actual criminals! Get real.

Chefs get really, and I mean really attached to their knives. Each knife has its own feel and has been developed through years of care and sharpening. Breaking one or losing one is unthinkable -- one's personal cutlery is irreplaceable. It comes under the same aegis as a violinist's violin.

As a chef, though no longer working as one, I often travel with my knives. Especially since when I visit family they make me cook. And trust me, their cutlery sucks.
