NYC OK'S PRAYER IN SCHOOL - - FOR MUSLIMS

NYC OK's Prayer in School -- for Muslims

That anti-religion bastion of political correctness, the New York City public school system, has quietly sanctioned prayer in schools -- but only of you're a Muslim who wants to worship during Ramadan.

In a talk radio exclusive, New York's WABC Radio has been airing reports on the school system's special program for Muslims for weeks.

Late Wednesday, Schools Chancellor Harold Levy finally confirmed that the religious double standard indeed exists. "Christian parents would probably love to have a place where their children could pray during school hours," WABC newsman George Weber said Thursday. "They don't... But the Muslim kids are getting their very own prayer room in New York City public schools."

"The New York City public school system is going to accommodate Muslim students allowing them space for prayer" during the five week Muslim holy season of Ramadan, reported Weber's partner, Babita Hariani.

"In a statement, though, school's Chancellor Harold Levy adds the prayer 'cannot interfere with classes or infringe on other students'", she explained.

That's not exactly what the Chancellor's office told the New York Post, which reported Thursday that Levy spokeswoman Margie Feinberg told them Muslim students will be allowed to cut classes in order to pray and then reschedule them later.

What can you expect from the state and its major city infested by demonRATS with the representative in Senate who defends needs of muslims first, and considers 9-11 the Bush's fault?

If Muslim students expect to be excused from class for prayer during the normal operating hours of the school day, I'd say we need a test case. Christian students ought to leave class for prayer, and then sue when they're disciplined.

We've always known that the only religion not tolerated in the US is the Christian religion; this is just a shift from tacit to overt discrimination.

It would be so funny if the whole class would leave, when the Muslims go to pray. Man, if I had children in a NY City School I could be having so much fun with this.

Interesting. When I was a kid EVERYONE would get off on Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashannah, even if you weren't Jewish. This was in NY.

So where is the ACLU on this? Is this not "state sponsored" religion? How would this be different from a similar request for a prayer room during Christian holidays? I reall want to see them squirm on this one!

Schools Harass Christians, Coddle Other Faiths

IN NEW YORK CITY, Muslims can pray in public schools. Christians can’t. Muslims can assemble in school auditoriums, during school hours, and pray. Christians cannot.

So says the New York Post, in a Dec.1, 2000 article titled, “Muslim Kids Get To Pray In School For Ramadan,” by Carl Campanile. This article didn’t make it far in the national news. I found it referenced in a rather obscure Christian newspaper out of Fort Worth, Texas, The Hour of Prophecy.

I thought, “Are these Texans the only people that care? How could this situation not make national headlines?” It marks one of the most dramatic inconsistencies of Constitutional interpretation in recent history.

At Lafayette High School, in Bensonhurst, in Brooklyn Technical & International in Queens, and in other Brooklyn schools, Muslim students are allowed to assemble and worship publicly in school auditoriums or makeshift prayer rooms during the regular school day.. .

I am so thankful for our WELS school. They start the day with a prayer, then Bible class, they pray before lunch and at the close of the day. Also, when there is something happening - like on 9/11 - the teachers stop and they all pray.

No state funding in our school, either.......

I watched a report on local NYC news LAST WEEK where they TOOK a group of public HIGH SCHOOL kids to a mosque!

To learn the diversity and the culture, but it was clearly a RELIGIOUS EVENT....the GIRLS were required to COVER their HEADS and they read from the KORAN!

THIS is PUBLIC SCHOOL! Would they ever have such a trip to a CHURCH or TEMPLE?

this is the hypocrisy!

We were stunned watching it!

Public praying isn't what it's all about for me. Praying is between God and me. It's private. I don't much like this idea that it's OK for one religion to pray and it's not OK for others.

Either everyone can pray or worship as their beliefs dictate or no one should be able to. Everyone being able to pray or worship in school, could open a can of worms, as there are enough crackpots out there that might worship pornography or beer farts for that matter. Imagine that in our schools? Sheesh!

I think these days with the sense of patriotism in America is the time to make some changes to the PC thinking that's been made popular. Let's get back to what America is really about, and quit letting some academic type make up things for us to live by.

We made it for a couple hundred years without "PC" correctness. It's time for some common sense to rule the day again.

Alittle truth here:

Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned...a kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer. I liked it....

Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

Seems like Christians are mandated by our holy writings to also pray throughout the day.

...oh...that's right...restricting the Moos would be hatefuland inseeennnnnsssative...restricting the Christians is Constitutional. Silly me.

"Schools Chancellor Harold Levy . . . Levy spokeswoman Margie Feinberg."

I could almost understand how Islamic intruders could get away with this nonsense if the ethnic/religious background of most of NYC's public school teachers were not Jewish. Are these people so blind that they do not see what happens when Moslems are allowed a foothold in a non-Moslem country? Have they no relatives in Israel? Are they so self-destructive that they want to nurture the cells of Islamist supporters who will eventually provide recruits and funds for the Jihad against, among others, the Jews?

Or is it just that they hate Christians more than they fear Moslems?

Their religious needs have been accommodated pretty well in many NYC schools.

I guess you are referring to the fact that most of the major Jewish holidays are school holidays in NYC. This is because many of the students and the teachers in the NYC public schools are still Jewish. NOT OBSERVANT Jews, but less than observant Jews often observe the major holidays. I should point out to you that most of the major holidays of Christianity and Islam are also observed in the same way. Including KWANNZA.

This is not only in deference to the religious needs of the students, parents and teachers but also because of the way in which federal aid to education works. If I understand it correctly, the schools get paid on a formula that is partially based on how many students are showing up. If the kids are not there, the schools don't get the bucks. If it is a declared holiday, the schools don't lose money on facilities costed out and paid for.

But as per my original assertion, I do not believe THAT ANY JEWISH STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO BREAK OUT OF THEIR CLASSES FOR MORNING OR MID-DAY PRAYERS, which are required of all observant Jews. As the afternoon prayer is scheduled relative to the length of the day, at certain parts of the year it could be done after school assuming enough time to travel away from school. This article was about prayer in school. It sounds once again that Christians and Jews are screwed while Muslims get the breaks.

Exactly. When these bozos say "separation of church and state" they mean "separation of Christian church and state." There's a lesson to be had in the fact that liberals fear only one faith. I know what that lesson is and many of you do, too.

How about letting Christian students celebrate Christmas with a real Christmas concert instead of a "holiday" concert where they can't mention Jesus or sing carols? It's time to speak up, Christians. Our liberties are slowly being taken away from us in the name of political correctness.

You suggest something absolutely unAmerican. Christian prayer and other overt religious activity was encouraged and often required by the government in most all public schools until the 1940's. NO ONE considered this "establishment" until someone resurrected a private letter of Jefferson that made reference to a phantom "wall of seperation" that he personally thought might be nice - but which was never the prevailing understanding in the USA. Any position to the contrary is an aberrration of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Liberals are such cowards. They know that Christians will sit and take this, while they're afraid that Muslims will blow them up. So they cave in to the Muslims.

(It doesn't matter if most Muslims are peaceful. We're talking about the hysterical perceptions of liberals here. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me continue . . . . )

It's like some feminists I know, who will loudly complain that all men are jerks -- until they're actually in the presence of a jerk. Then suddenly they become very, very submissive.
