"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matt 21:22)
Heavenly Father, Dearest Jesus, thank You for this amazing promise given to all believers! Our English in comparison to the orginal Greek is a pale translation of the scope, breadth and passion of this promise. Help us this day to understand and believe intimately in the comprehensiveness of this promise.
Jesus, You have told us that not only will You honor and supply the answers to our general requests, but also to every specific request as well. You used not just one word to describe the vastness of this promise, but three successive words! In the Greek, Matthew relates that You said, "...pas an hosos...", and each word echos the meaning of the other two: whatsoever, all things, every thing, as many as, the whole, what things so ever we shall ask of You, You will generously supply! There are no limits to what You will grant us as believers!
Likewise, the Greek word "lambano" translated to the English as "...ye shall receive" is equally pale in comparison to the strength of Your original intent: receive, take, catch, lay hold of, seize, apprehend, collect, gather or to get back. Father, these are active words, which do not indicate that we are simply passive recipients of Your mercy and provision. Instead, if we are in tune with You and Your intentions through the work and indwelling of Your Holy Spirit, through our prayers we are active participants in not only presenting the needs to You, but in the collection of the promises offered!
Faith, the confidence that Your words are true and that You will answer and supply whatever is required for each request, no matter how large or small, is our active role. Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, Who allows us to overcome the cynicism of our earthly minds and hearts, and thereby commit our trust and confidence to You! Break through whatever remaining barriers we have built up within ourselves, Dearest Father. Release us from satan's suggestions that You will not listen to or answer our concerns. Empower us to fearlessly seize this vast promise and apply it liberally in all situations, so that Your name and Your supreme ability to provide amply to Your people will become known in every corner of the world...and thereby, every heart shall come to know You and the incredible gift Your Son, Jesus Christ, has provided for us! Thank You Father! Thank You Jesus! Thank You Holy Spirit! In Jesus' name, and through the vastness of this promise I ask these things...Amen!
I have a request - just heard that an old family friend has gotten herself into a real mess. Her name is Debbie and she's facing some drunk driving charges that could result in jail time. She and her husband have a business that is not doing well and may have to go into bankruptcy, their teenaged son is getting into trouble in school, and her oldest son is with the military in Afghanistan. Please pray that she will surrender to the Lord and be able to face whatever consequences may come of the various bad decisions she has made, and pray for the whole family to turn to God.
I just got word from the National Runaway Switchboard that Betsy left a greeting and message of love for us!!!! Please continue to pray for her safety, and that I know exactly what God wants me to do. The woman who called explained that the goal of the Runaway Switchboard is to foster and open communication between runaways and their families, and provide transportation home if needed.
Father God, I cannot express what is in my heart, but You know. You know the depth of my gratitude! Thank You Father! Please continue to take complete control of this situation and all involved. Thank You Jesus!!! In Your name Jesus, I ask these things and all that is in my heart...AMEN!
And my thanks to all of my dear brothers and sisters for your continued prayer help and encouragement! God bless you all in all things!
"How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You, which You bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in You." (Psalms 31:19)
"Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in You my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed."
Heavenly Father, mountaineer's dear friend has urgent and deep need for Your blessings and salvation. Your Son told His apostles face-to-face that whatsoever we ask of Him, He will do for us. And so I ask for Debbie and her family, Dear Jesus, that You touch her heart and listen to her cries for help. She is like so many of us once were...lost, alone and deeply afraid, not knowing which way to turn for help. You will provide that help, You will listen to the smallest of voices of her consciousness that seeks rescue for the evils which have befallen her and her family. You will rescue her from the pit of despair and self-destruction...and You alone will bring her son home alive and well from Afghanistan, and restain her other son from continuing on his own path of self-destruction!
Father, Dearest Jesus, we know that often we must face the consequences of our actions or inaction. But I beg You, please do not allow any harm to befall her family. Let each of them in turn call upon Your name and receive the gift of salvation bought and paid for by our Lord, Savior and Brother, Jesus Christ. Remove from them what is required to ensure their inheritance in Your kingdom, and then give them daily whatsoever they need for their physical comforts. Send Your Holy Spirit to them all for comfort, hope and joy that You have heard and are providing answers to every problem. In trusting Your holy and true words, I thank You Father! Thank You Jesus! Thank You Holy Spirit! In Jesus' name I ask all these things...Amen!
Thanks for flagging me to the Nov. 24 thread at post #6.
Can't help but wonder how God must have used Thanksgiving away from the love (and table!) of Mom and Dad to help jostle your young one.
