Over Thanksgiving, I went antiquing.

In this one shop, I sat in an old easy chair, and noticed on the end table some old magazines. I picked up one and read it.

It was the post-election special edition of Newsweek, from 1976.

Boy, have we conservatives come a long way since then. We were the minority of the Republican party, and the Republican party was hopelessly (so it seemed) in the minority in Congress.

There was an article listing who might be a contender for the Republican nomination in 1980. The first one listed was Reagan, with the following being the entirety of the comments on him: "Only the most hard core of believers thinks the aging Reagan will be a factor in 1980." All the rest were typical NorthEast liberal Republicans.

Now, we are the majority within the Republican party (even if we are still frustrated by the "moderate" aka liberal Republicans), we control the House and are at near-parity in the Senate, and we have a conservative in the White House.

We have made tremendous progress, and Free Republic is helping keep the momentum going, even through the setbacks.

God bless Free Republic.

I thought I had too many computers, but I have to admit, I don't have one in the barn.....wonder if the animals will mind?

LOL
So far I've had no complaints.... LOL

If you're going to put one in a barn...
It is a good idea to "protect" it.
I have mine in an old "drop top desk". J

"New doggies or new pictures? You're doggies are sooooooooo cute!"

New pictures of my old doggies. They're family. (My brother was visiting once at feeding time and he said my doggies eat better than he did, lol.)

Way cool! I wish I could do that. I have an adverse effect on electronics. Something in my system seems to make them go haywire.

Wow!

Can anyone do a comparison to last quarter's fundraiser to see how many posts it took (rather than threads) to get to the midway point?

This seems awfully fast to me, and would suggest that the monthlies are having a hugely beneficial impact.

My life is about to change radically in the coming months as I will start to walk the walk of American Entrepreneurship that I have advocated over the years.

It would be moribund without Reagan's tax cuts in the 1980s.

FR rules!

It will be very easy for you to say, "Well, I will do something, some day. When I can afford it, I am going to." But would you let an old "grad" tell you one thing now? Giving is a habit. Get into the habit now, because you will never be able to afford to give and contribute, thus to repay the obligation you owe to those people who made this college possible, if you wait until you think you can afford it. Start now regardless of how small, and in the days to come when you are confronted with demands for many worthwhile causes and charities I think you will find that you will give dutifully to all the worthy ones. But here and there you will pick one or two that will be favorites, and you can do no better than to pick this, your Alma Mater, because you will not only be repaying your own personal obligations, you will be making your contribution to the very process which has made and continues to keep America great.

This democracy of ours which sometimes we've treated so lightly, is more than ever a comfortable cloak, so let us not tear it asunder, for no man knows once it is destroyed where or when he will find its protective warmth again. ~ Ronald Reagan
