DC Chapter To Help Our FRiend, Linda Tripp -- Here's How You Can Help, Too
DC Chapter of Free Republic | December 11, 2001 | Angelwood

Posted on 12/11/2001 7:28:27 PM PST by Angelwood

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic will forever admire the courageous stand taken by Linda Tripp to tell the truth during the dark days of the investigation leading up to the impeachment of President Clinton. This was done at great personal sacrifice.

It is with great sadness and concern that we learned recently that, while others have profited handsomely from their criminal acts during the Clinton era, Linda Tripp has been nearly bankrupted and is facing foreclosure on her home. She was fired from her government job by Bill Clinton on the last day of his term. Her attempts to find another position in her field at the George C. Marshall Center in Germany were sabotaged by a leak to the press.

Since then, according to press reports, Linda has not been able to find work commensurate with her experience. We believe that this is because she is considered radioactive as a result of her reputation for telling the truth and not going along with the business-as-usual practices of those who do work with the Federal Government.

According to press reports, actions leading to foreclosure on Linda's home in Columbia, Maryland, have commenced. She had been renting the home out while staying with friends but it has recently been without tenants.

Members of the D.C. Chapter are stepping forward to help Linda in her time of need. We want her to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you would like to share the D.C. Chapter's efforts as we give a hand up to a FRiend, here's how you can do so:

Send a check or money order payable to Linda Tripp. Please send it c/o David K. Colapinto, Esq., Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, P.C., 3233 P Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007. Mr. Colapinto will see that whatever funds are received will go directly to Linda Tripp and not to a defense fund.

Disclaimer: This is a voluntary effort organized by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic. The posting of this notice is with the consent of Free Republic, LLC. However, none of the donations for Linda will be handled by or through Free Republic, LLC, or the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic. Therefore, neither Free Republic, LLC, nor the D.C. Chapter have any responsibility for the accounting or disposition of the donations.

This effort by the D.C. Chapter is solely our idea. Linda Tripp did not ask for these donations, nor did anyone else. We are doing this because we care.

If memory serves, Linda was given the gift of the cosmetic surgery by an anonymous donor. The only address given on her website for donations clearly states that funds will go to her Legal Defense Fund. I find it sad and disgusting that the Jay Lenos and SNL comics, as well as the Clinton apologizers and media pundits, spent so much time villifying Linda Tripp's appearance by using the democratic modus operandi of politics of personal destruction. They succeeded in changing the subject from the president's crimes and destroyed Linda's image of herself so much that she changed it. My heart goes out to Linda. No one should be put through this kind of savagery for telling the truth.

when i was a small kid, i learned, when you can't say something nice - it's better to say nothing at all.... :) Others may say, it may be better to keep one's mouth shut, rather than to confirm ones substandard mentally

Thanks for this post. I sent a small donation last week when I heard she was losing her house.

I doubt we'll be seeing many whistle blowers in the future in D.C.

Thank you Linda. You are appreciated by many.

Angelwood, thank you for posting this.

Like many other Freepers, I have sent to Linda's Defense Fund over the last few years. A check is now on the way to the address you mentioned to help her personally.

I truly hope there is a big response to this becuse Linda is in great need at this time. We all owe her so much for her sacrifice and bravery. Go Linda!

Hiya, Fred! Good to see ya!

Linda Tripp deserves our support for no other reason than that she stood up to the corruption in the Clinton White House when no one else would.

It's really sick to see people saying things like she had a great salary, and she'll get a great pension, etc.

She has lost her marketability in even the private sector. Would you want the publicity at YOUR business from the pihranna press? They will NOT leave her alone, and anyone in the private sector who hires her is asking for a whole lot of hassle that they don't need.

As far as the pension is concerned, she was one year short of qualifying for any pension when she was fired by Clinton.

Is it too much to ask that people actually examine the facts before they type?

What's the matter with people here? How quickly they forget! Is gratitude so passe here these days?

When I read about Linda on a FR thread last week, I wanted to help but admit that when I went to her website, didn't think that contributing to her legal defense fund would help her with the immediate housing problem. Angelwood, thanks for giving us this address. It certainly answers a desire to help.

As a whistle-blower who had the Govies line up on the opposite side of my position and protect their precious GS jobs, while throwing me to the wolves, I can attest to the mean-spiritedness that can reside in these folks who will cheer you on, in private, and throw rocks with all the rest in public. And, sadly, as with Linda, my reward was unemployment.

As Jim Rob said, "Because of Linda, the history books will now have to say the "Impeached" President Clinton." Without Linda and the blue dress, Slick Willy would have managed to spin every lie, while changing the meaning of the word "is", for Pete's sake.

I wish I could help more than I am able - but I will write a check and write a note to a woman I think of as my hero.

Linda, write the book! I'll even proofread it for free!

Thanks for the Ping!

I will be glad to help out Linda Tripp. My wife and I think the world for her and have worried about her safety and kept her in our prayers. and now that she needs monetary help, we will send some dead Presidents her way ASAP.

Just look how Linda Tripp has been treated compared to Monica Lewinsky. Monica gets a job with a diet company and a Saturday Night Live spotlight, while the left leaning media portrays Linda Tripp as a "Demon" When in fact she spoke out against a man who promised to uphold the law and serve the country with honor and dignity, but instead he disgraced this country and only served himself. Without people like Linda Tripp his manipulation and lies would of only escalated.

I only hope our help will be enough to really help her.

Morning CAL, I thought Linda had her 25 in? I am not as familiar with the CSR as I was with the retirement that I was under. I think she will still get though because there is a factoring in of Annual Leave that has been used and sick leave that hasn't been used plus years of service and several other that I can't remember. But that doesn't matter now. She wouldn't be eligible anyway until she became of retirement age and she has a long time before that even came into question.

Check this out everyone:

The poor Linda Tripp is not, I repeat, NOT having her home foreclosed on. The house has been sitting empty. She is renting a fancy house in Virginia. She could have sold the thing. She could have lived there an not payed rent in Virginia.

I don't own a home, I am sure as hell not going to give her money so that she can live in one and let another sit empty.

It's too bad that this info wasn't available at the start of this thread. I know it's not your fault Angelwood, but everyone here has been conned.

Thank you, James Carville.

The article you referenced doesn't say she is paying rent in Middleburg. When it was first reported months ago that Linda had moved there, the article said she was staying with friends to get some privacy.

If you don't want to help her, fine, but don't smear her on this thread like you did on the other thread when you said Linda was "begging" for this money.

As Angelwood stated on the notice, Linda did not ask the D.C. Chapter to do this.

For you to say that the D.C. Chapter has "conned" people is grossly insulting.

Bank files to foreclose on Tripp's Columbia house Lawyer notes money woes, unemployment

By Lisa Goldberg

Baltimore Sun

December 5, 2001

Linda R. Tripp, whose secret recordings of White House intern Monica Lewinsky sparked a presidential impeachment, may lose her Columbia house to foreclosure - the result of economic woes from a prolonged period of unemployment.

Officials working on behalf of CitiMortgage Inc. filed a foreclosure action in Howard County Circuit Court against Tripp for her Cricket Pass house late last month. The court papers note a mortgage balance of $116,098.61, including late charges and interest. The papers do not provide additional details on the debt.

Yesterday, Joseph Murtha, who represented Tripp in the state's unsuccessful prosecution on wiretap charges, said that his client, who has not lived in the house for months, has been out of work since she was fired from her Department of Defense job, after refusing to resign from the appointed post in the waning days of the Clinton administration.

Tripp now lives in Middleburg, Va., he said.

"It's been very difficult for Linda to focus on where her career goes from this point in her life," Murtha said. Tripp had hoped to continue as a government employee but has not been rehired, he said. "She anticipated 30 years of government service."

Tripp and her suburban home in Hickory Ridge village became the subject of intense scrutiny in early 1998 when her tape recordings of conversations about Lewinsky's sexual relationship with President Bill Clinton became public and again when a grand jury indicted her on charges of violating the state's wiretap law.

That case was dropped by state prosecutors in May last year.

Cricket Pass was often clogged with television satellite trucks, all eager for a glimpse of the woman whose tapings led to Clinton's impeachment in December 1998.

By fall of last year, though, she was no longer living in Columbia, instead renting out the 24-year-old Colonial-style house, which was valued at slightly more than $180,000 as of Jan. 1.

When she moved to Virginia is unclear, but she registered to vote in Fauquier County in August last year.

No one is living in the Columbia house, Murtha said yesterday, adding that he is trying to determine whether additional payments not recorded at the time the foreclosure action was filed have been made.

The hope is that Tripp can resolve any issues with the mortgage and possibly sell the house on her own, he said.

"Economically, things have been rather difficult," Murtha said. Still, "Linda has been making an effort to take care of her responsibilities."

----------------------------------

The article clearly states that she was renting out the home in Columbia.

It's so easy to say "Linda, go write a book". I hope people suggesting this wake up to reality. Could any of you here, as a layperson, sit down tomorrow and start writing a sellable book, no matter how thrilling you think your life has been?

First, you'd have to have up to two years of uninterrupted time. You'd have to have the ability to write. If you don't, you have to hire a collaborator or ghost writer.

Then you have to do research and investigations so your facts are straight. You can't rely on memory. You'd have to hire someone to do that if you don't have the time and resources to do it yourself.

Then you'd have to hire an attorney to review your book so you don't get sued. Then you have the daunting and sometimes impossible task of finding a publisher who deems the book marketable.

Then if it does get published, you sit and pray it sells. If it doesn't, all your investments are down the drain.

Perhaps a book is in her future, but the farther away the book would be from the events, the less it will sell.

If it was so easy to write and sell a book, we scribes here at FR would all be millionaires.
