BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Eleven Mexican trucking companies filed a $4 billion class-action lawsuit Tuesday, accusing the U.S. government of illegally denying them access to U.S. markets in accordance with the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Plaintiffs' lawyers said the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Brownsville, was on behalf of at least 185 Mexican trucking concerns.

violated the U.S. Constitution by allowing Canadian firms more access than Mexican companies. It claimed U.S. officials discriminated against Mexican nationals by denying Mexican truckers the ability to invest in, own or control trucking companies based in the United States.

WTF are they talking about?

"the Teamsters union, which represents more than 120,000 U.S. truck drivers, called the suit "baseless."...
While Canadian trucks were allowed, the agreement was delayed for Mexican trucks by former President Clinton.

It has nothing to do with safety, it's just a union issue.

Canadian truck drivers are members of the union while Mexican truck drivers are not.

The consumer pays.

I suspect that the constitutional rights of American citizens are violated when the government will not issue them a trucking permit if their stockholders or investors are Mexican, whereas they will if the investors are Canadian.

American trucking companies whose majority owners are from Mexico probably aren't going to use union drivers.

The only difference between a "Mexican" trucking company and an "American" trucking company may simply be where the corporation has it's charter filed. Same trucks, same drivers, same routes, same maintenance, same management; just a "principle place of business" a few blocks North across the border.

First of all - screw NAFTA!!

Secondly, no Mexicans has the right to tell Americans how to run our own affairs in our own country. NAFTA is a trade agreement (if you want to call it that) and is in no way a part of our Constitution. Where are these idiots coming from?

MAP, you are correct. Let the games begin. I am tired of this BS!!
