Does ignorance- the kind you run into in conversations with people, on editorial pages, and in letters to editors- make you queasy?
Remeber the old saying, "stupidity is forever, but ignorance can be cured with learning," and do your part to spread knowledge across the Web and the world.
First, never forget that we have a valuble resource right here on this site:
Research & Analysis via FreeRepublic...
Next, when you see an article here, pass it on to others-- Look here:
Communicate! Let the Sons of....
--within these links for mass communication are a pile of email addies-- what you do, in Outlook Express is create a new email "group" and in that group enter as many of the email addies as you wish.... I have one for "opinionators," one for "media" and so on. When you see a post on FR you want to send to a group, minimise IE and open Outlook express, click "new mail" go to the group you want to send it to and put it in the "bcc" so they aren't aware it is a mass email. Go back to IE and if you have clicked on the article, its web address will appear in the "address" window.... just use control-C and -V to copy & paste that to your email, with a title and comments, and send it... they will have a clickable link that way. How much good this does I do not know, but at least for a while people have a chance of seeing and reading things they may be unaware of.... I do suspect that some commentators like Tony Snow on Fox have gotten items this way.

The title
"Ignorance Making You Ill?" caught my eye. I'll read it to see how it fits with my 'dot.sig' line.

The comment that I've been making regularly and recently is
"High-fivin' here among our mates accomplishes little. Be sure to post our comments and corrections to the responsible author and editor."

Once upon a loooong time ago and in the time of VMS and e-mail readers 'pine' and 'tar' (IIRC) these programs allowed you to keep a file of data to be appended to each post. They became "geek boxes" of tersly coded personal information significant to no one excepth the guy in the next cubicle. Now even OE allows a "signature."

Thanks. Like I need ANOTHER bookmark in my browser. I noticed and now try to avoid reproducing the topography of sites in their bookmarks. The FR treed to "log-in', 'posts' amd so on. JR didn't need to use the left side menu 'cause I HAD my own. Then one day I cleaned house and now have to ask "where's the bookmark button?"

"High-fivin' here among our mates accomplishes little. Be sure to post our comments and corrections to the responsible author and editor."Missed your comment to yourself.... you are correct, of course. A side-effect of emailing links from here to letters to editors may be more exposure of FR to people who would otherwise never hear about it.

JR, I'm always doing this, do I get a gold star on my chart this morning? I'm sure I've increased the lurkers to FR and one poster that I'm sure of ... the beat goes on!

Would she use a litter box with sand in it? Been a long time since I have raised a puppy. I carried my last puppy so much that for the first month or two she hardly knew she had legs. : )

"Ignorance Making You Ill? Cure It!" backhoe, the ignorance, or misinformation, in my newspaper was so bad that I do not read it anymore. Television was even worse so now I get the truth and news from FreeRepublic. : )

I'm with you there- the web, and even slow, slow talk radio, gets a lot closer to the truth. I will say that my 2 local papers have excellent, conservative editorial pages- but- and it's a big "but"- they do use the wire services for national news, and it is pretty bad. Agitprop for the dumbell masses.

You know, I bumped around different boards prior to landing at FR.... Newsmax had ( then ) a slew a racist idiots I didn't care for, EaglesUp! was fine, but vanished, thefiringline is mainly RKBA ( but within those limitations is a fine board I'd recommend to anyone ) and several others were nice, but too daggone small- I want my voice, when raised, to reach as many as possible.
Besides which, FR covers everything of interest to me- if it's important, it will eventually get covered here- and that's very helpful; otherwise I have to go to several different sites just to cover all the news I want to follow.
Also, as one FReeper put it, "Free Republic's what I always wanted- a newspaper I can talk back to!"

I used to drive my wife a little batty by directing ( cuss-word laced ) commentary to the TV, radio, or newspaper... Free Republic is much quieter and more satisfying, too.

Thanks for explaining in detail how to spread the word.....BTW I've been working at doing just that for quite awhile via emails to cyberfriends & the media.
To: JulieRNR21
Thanks for looking. That method works with my setup, and it's so much easier than trying to argue a point- just link the story and tell others "go look for yourself!"

Thank you for looking- you really can reach and annoy a lot of people with these links. The only drawback is emailing your "critters" in government; nearly all send back "Your opinion is so important to me...." semi-spam.
But even if the head critter never reads your email, they cannot claim they did not get an opinion from you... the answerback proves that they did.

What are you doing on this thread? How can I shop for a Birthday present for you if you're going to follow me all around?
To: backhoe;Sandy
One of your research links is to google.com
You should be aware that google has "cut off" FreeRepublic somehow. google searches that used to turn up 60,000 hits on FR now turn up only 400. Searches that used to turn up 400 hits, now find only 2 or 3. Sandy says this happened around the first of February, as I recall.
I did note with interest that the washingtonpost.com is a paying google customer, but FR is not. I sure would like to know when the WP signed up, and see it coincided with the deliberate shunning of FR.
To: snopercod
I appreciate the info- I had wondered why "domain" searches of FR were returning so few hits.
Well, I guess it's time to find a better search engine- too bad, google!

Thanks for posting those links.
I just tried the one which used to return 83,000 hits, and it now returns 5,300.
I suppose I am going to have to e-mail google and ask them why...sigh.
