BIJNOR: In a gruesome incident, a temple priest chopped the head of a eight year-old boy with a dagger to propitiate a deity by human sacrifice in a town in Bijnor district, police said on Thursday.

The incident came to light when the boy hailing from Kalagarh was reported missing after he had gone to the Shiv temple to play with his friends, police said.

His body was later recovered from the nearby bushes. On interrogation, the priest confessed to the crime, police said adding the priest has been arrested.

I would say it was "worship-gone-awry", just like 9-11. The "good books" all talk about vengeful gods who love sacrifice. These people are faithfully serving god in their own non-rational way.

The "priest" sounds like a run-of-the-mill schizophrenic, whom the "gods" had spoken to, and ordered him to make the sacrifice. Wasn't the Biblical Abraham ordered to do something similar? Of course his God stopped him before he went too far and did something irreversible.

How wrong you are. The "good books" don't all speak of a vengeful god who loves sacrifice,only the ones which claim salvation is something you have to earn and these people are not serving God in their own non-rational way. In India(hinduism) there are over 300 million recognized "gods" and their worship has nothing to do with that of He who IS GOD.
