Some questions errupted on another thread about Philip José Farmer's Riverworld series. It deserves a thread of its own.

Folks wanted to know about the proposed TV series. However, I thought a general discussion of Riverwold and Farmer would be good.

I forgot to answer your other question. The other thread was about
Phillip K. Dick

Cool. Those novels are among my favorites.

Sorry, in-depth literary discussions are allowed only for Lord of the Rings and related topics. Begone -- To Your Scattered Bodies Go! :-)

I thought To Your Scattered Bodies Go was one of the best novels I've ever read.. I liked The Fabulous Riverboat almost as much. However, I found The Dark Design to be a bit tedious and I had to force myself to finish The Magic Labyrinth. Consequently, I never even attempted The Gods of Riverworld.

I also felt the last few books were harder to read then the first. He also wrote a book of short stories that take place on the Riverworld. Some of these stories are very good.

Thanks.
After the success of the SciFi channel's Dune series it would only be fitting for someone to invoke Riverworld which is one hell of a setting. Hey, who wouldn't jump at the chance to play just about any character in history ? A series where Mark Twain, Hermann Goering, King John 1, Cyrano de Bergerac, Tom Mix, Jack London, Methuselah, Sir Richard Burton, and Alice Lidell are major characters certainly does not lack for juicy parts.

Well, check out the unofficial site. It talks about the proposed TV series. Both the official and unofficial sites are pretty good.
To: EveningStar
My sentiments exactly.

"Riverworld" would make a good setting for a series.
On another topic: was there ever a sequel to "Stations of the Nightmare"?
I guess there won't be a movie version of "Blown" soon (using Billie Holliday's version of "Gloomy Sunday" of course.
The other earth series (with the Black Bellers) would make another good series.

He also wrote a book of short stories that take place on the Riverworld. Hmm. I didn't know about those.

Here is a
list of the books and stories that take place on the Riverworld.
The Merry men of Riverworld has Abraham Lincoln fighting Al Capone.
Graceland has Elvis, John Lennon and other rock stars playing together.
