Good morning, sir. Thanks for the ping.
To: JohnHuang2
I am doing well thank you, I am enrolled in an "EMT" course on Eagle Base is taking up some of my time usually spent "online" maybe this is a good thing in light of recent threads..
FReegards,
and God Bless,
David
To: davidosborne
Thats great about the EMT course. You'll learn valuable information that could come in handy one day.
I already knew about The Ten Commandments project. I think they should just go ahead and put the statue up, and force those heathens to stop them.
To: davidosborne
Please take me off your ping list. Second request. Thank you.

While I agree with you, I think it is ALSO important to get as many people taking a PUBLIC stand as possible because that is the only way our elected officials will know that it is not just a "few" people who think this is important..
FReegards,
David

Plus, we expect Congress to take up a bill called the "Ten Commandments Protection Act" that will allow our communities to publicly display the Ten Commandments as a symbol of the faith and values needed to heal our land. Do you have any idea how wrong this is?

Your screen name should be OWdKs.
To: davidosborne
You are asking congress to pass legislation empowering communities to compel an unwilling minority to fork over money, so that public monuments can be built proclaiming that people shall have no other God, than the God of Abraham?
Don't you recognize the immoral nature of such an act?
If you want such monuments, get off your lazy butt, collect the money, and build them yourself.... privately.
Don't steal my money to promote your faith.

Thank God, you were not one of our Founding Fathers, otherwise America may just be another British Colony..

Where exactly has it been said that any "public" money should be used?

"We have staked our VERY EXISTENCE as a Nation on our ability to obey the TEN COMMANDMENTS"... James Maddison
Madison never said such a thing:
American History Rewritten By Christians Posting the Ten Commandments as something that's part of our history isn't forbidden, any more than it is to post the Magna Carta or the Hammurabic Code.
Posting them as something the government endorses gives the wrong message at best. The First Amendment forbids government from interfering in the worship of other Gods, the making of graven images, or working on the Sabbath.

Your "tactics" of arguing falls somewhat to the LEFT of center.. Do you ALSO think the BIBLE was RE-WRITTEN by Christians? Or the Divine inspired Word of God?

"We have staked our VERY EXISTENCE as a Nation on our ability to obey the TEN COMMANDMENTS"...
James Maddison And you will of course notice that one of those very commandments is THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.
Not even to promote your religious faith.
Taking money from unwilling people to promote your religious faith is theft. Even if you have the government do it for you. The majority is not entitled to rob the minority to promote it's religion.
Try actually practicing the faith you claim.

I would argue that the "public display of the Ten Commandments" is NOT an "establishment" of religion, nor does it in ANY way FORCE any religion on ANYBODY.. More accurately it is an affirmation of our HERRITAGE... IMHO it is the single most IMPORTANT "SYMBOL" of the principles that our Nation was founded on...
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and you certainly are free to REJECT the truth of scripture and suffer the consequences of your FREE WILL decision..

The majority is not entitled to rob the minority to promote it's religion IMHO you defination of "THEFT" is not accurate, maybe you need to re-read your law books... And your definition of "promote it's religion" is certainly out of context.... again IMHO...

Using public money or public facilities forces people to support a religion they may not agree with.

IYHO what does the word theft mean? Is it a word that just doesn't apply to government?

IMHO you defination of "THEFT" is not accurate, maybe you need to re-read your law books... Of course that's your opinion... You're advocating theft...
What else would you say?
But taking a person's property against their will is theft nevertheless...
And using your ill-gotten gains for a purpose the victim of theft opposes, is doubly immoral.
The fact that you smile and talk about Jesus while robbing your neighbors, does not absolve you of guilt for the act.

So. are you saying that if ONE person (citizen or elected official) does not agree with an expenditure than the money should NOT be spent?
I can't remember the last time something passed UNANIMOUSLY.. Oh yeah "The Patriot Act" not 100-0 But close enough..
God Bless America!!
To: davidosborne
I would argue that the "public display of the Ten Commandments" is NOT an "establishment" of religion, nor does it in ANY way FORCE any religion on ANYBODY.. Then why do you insist on compelling your neighbors to pay for it with government force?
Why not just collect the money yourself, and erect such monuments privately?
That would be the moral way to pursue your dream.
But of course that would take REAL work... and it's easier to have government rob your neighbors.

So. are you saying that if ONE person (citizen or elected official) does not agree with an expenditure than the money should NOT be spent? I'm saying government has no morally legitimate business in ANY role, other than the defense of rights.
It shouldn't be sloganeering.
It shouldn't be promoting religions.
It shouldn't be handing out money in social programs.
It shouldn't be telling free men what they are allowed to eat and drink.
It shouldn't be prohibiting the ownership of inanimate objects like firearms.
It shouldn't be building monuments.
it shouldn't be promoting the arts.
It shouldn't be promoting the sciences.
It shouldn't be telling free men who they must associate with.
It should be defending individual rights.
That's it.
