The Senate yesterday rejected a Republican proposal to give tax breaks to businesses to create jobs as prospects dimmed for an economic recovery bill favored by the White House.

The amendment to create a 30 percent tax write-off for businesses over the next three years, supported by Treasury Secretary Paul H. O'Neill, received only 39 votes. It would have required 60 votes to overcome Democrats' objections.

Tom Daschle is very stupid. The best way to defeat a popular prresident and keep his party from gaining power. That is to give him what he asks for and then try to convince the people that his plan has failed.

The democrats have opposed Bush on ever issue in every situation since Florida. They convinced a lot of the public with the help of the media that Bush was an inept dummy.

Bush said the economy was going down. Democrats said he was wrong. Then 911 came along. Bush said we would kick a$$. Democrats said a Nam style Quagmire. It tourned out to be an easy US win.

When the Score Bush Two democrats Zero they continue to try to stop his economic plan. If the economy does improve Bush will get the credit as the only man trying to fix it. If the economy stays bad the Demorats will be blaimed for preventing Bush from fixing it. Blocking a loser has political merit. Blocking the plans of political winner is political suicide.

There are only two ways to combat a popular president with a plan to fix a problem. The first is to propose a fix that the President can't accept. Then talk constantly of your plan and the presidents refusal to pass it. The second is to pass the presidents plan and then claim is does not work. In the second case you say, we passed his plan it did not work, put us in office.

Daschle and Gephardt have done neigher. They oppose Bushes plan and have spend all their time trying to stop it.

The polls show and history teaches that the public will blame the people blocking action and not the man trying to cause an action.

Daschle and Gephardt are very dumb. Economic stimulus had been a Democratic policy since William Jennings Bryan. The people in the media are not so all fired in favor of balanced budgets and higher taxes. Balanced bugets and higher taxes has been a Republican policy since William Howard Taft.

It appears that the Democratic leadres are taking positions not on what they believe, but on pure and simple opposition to Dubya for political reasons. That is very dumb. Even lots of the left will not suppor them on this.

Daschle and Gephardt have driven the teamsters into Bushs column and may yet push the auto workers and AFL neutral. That is very dumb politics. The teachers union will not get Democrats elected.

How many Republicans in the Senate again?

I think we need to take a closer look at where the people we THOUGHT were on our side stand..

Some of us know they aren't/never were on our side, but we're encouraged to vote for them anyway because they aren't Democrats.

Some people believe Republicans were actually in control of both houses not long ago. I have my doubts it would have passed with 60 Republicans in the Senate.
