1) The original Pledge of Allegiance did not have the "Under God" phrasing. That was added in the mid 1950s. Personally I prefer the original Pledge and I think that the wording flows better.Probably 90% of the time I've heard the Pledge spoken in the last 30 years or so it has been the pre-1954 version. It's just in more common usage because most people separate their religious faith and their patriotism to some degree.2) Dr. Pepper cans have the words "One Nation...Indivisible" on them. They have no other words from the Pledge on them. People have whined about why other parts of the pledge couldn't have been removed instead of Under God because they're too lazy to do any real research and just assume that the Pledge is printed in its entirety except for the "Under God" phrase. That is not the case -- the cans have a very small excerpt from the Pledge and nothing more.
What's really stupid about this whole molehill-turned-mountain is that Dr Pepper is being assailed for promoting patriotism. Clearly, Donald Wildmon (who started this flap) and his ilk are more interested in having their particular religious beliefs to any promotion of patriotism than they are in said promotion.
