I news clips that ran yesterday on Mass radio stations, Meehan is carefully following the Carville/Demo strategy and is mentioning Enron in his first sentence in comments on Shays-Meehan, and is trying to tie opposition to his bill to the Repubs and the Enron mess.

Meehan is just another useless liberal Demo tool from Mass who takes his orders from the DNC, Teddy K and Carville. They say: "Jump", and he says "How High?"

Did you learn that by calling her office?

Once they learn that I'm in their district, they suggest I contact my Congresswoman. Told them she was the first person contacted but as a citizen and voter I have every right to be heard by all.

I would not at all be surprised if President Bush vetoed a CFR bill that did not meet his stated criteria.

What would his stated criteria be?

The other point is that if Bush didn't veto the current proposals, he should resign for not living up to the vows he took to defend the constitution. Real leaders and those who defend the constitution would never back down from pressure of any kind, even from the big bad ole media.

This is my letter to my Congressman, I couldn't resist pointing out Lieberman et al hypocrisy.

I strongly urge you to defeat the current efforts to pass a Shays-Meehan Campaign Finance Reform Bill. The rights granted under the Constitution are far too important to throw away, no matter how much the media would like you to do.

The circus hearings now being conducted regarding Enron, prove beyond a doubt that Campaign Finance Reform is not needed. Joseph Lieberman, Fritz Hollings and Henry Waxman are the most media prominent Congressional investigators. Each one has been the recipient of donations from Enron, Citigroup and Arthur Andersen. Each one has piously stated that Enron donations will have zero effect on their impartial investigations. What better proof is necessary that there is no need for Campaign Finance Reform.

Please feel free to contact me relative to this matter.

Very truly yours,

Hmm, I think of myself as a Republican but I kinda thought I liked this bill. Then someone said that it exempts the News Media in this thread. Is that true? That would be kinda hard to swallow. I believe our constitution supports free speech for *individuals,* but that doesn't necessarily mean labor unions, corporations, or other conglomerates of individuals. I know, on the other hand, that the Supreme Court has ruled differently. Still and all, I'd like some campaign finance reform so the little guy's voice isn't drowned out by these K street manipulators. But if they're going to exempt the press, I don't even see the point of bothering.

Here's the link to the site which permits you to send faxes, FREE OF CHARGE Apparently there are no restrictions to the number of faxes you can send. I hit the back arrow to simply change the name of recipient and fax number.

One criterium is restrictions on union dues being used for political purposes without members' permission.

One criterium is restrictions on union dues being used for political purposes without members' permission.

Then you have to have a restriction on corporations making contributions without case by case approval by the shareholders. But that wouldn't help politicions either, so why not just quit playing games and drop all these BS games between the parties?

Better yet, why not just disallow contributions from any entity which cannot vote? And remove all other restrictions. The goverenment has never been given the power to regulate campaigns in any case.

Tomorrow I was thinking of a Breaking News post for a running, blow by blow, account of the floor debate. Should be sort of a Freedom of Speech Smackdown! Whatya think?

Two of our congressman from here (Missouri) were undecided. I called Congressman Kenny Hulshof's office in DC this morning, to tell him to vote against it, and the staffer there said he already decided to vote "no." I also contacted the other undecided, Congressman Ike Skelton, and the staffer told me to contact my congressman for my district. I told her I did, but it doesn't mean I don't have friends in Skelton's district that will vote him out of office. Of course he's been there so long, it would have to be a pretty good fight. my $.02 --erik
