[history]
Buried under tons of World Trade Center steel and rubble, rescue workers found a page from the Bible that spoke of a tower that reached to the heavens.
The shocking revelation of faith and hope is "a sign from God that he is still watching over us," said photographer and actor Gary Gere, who found the passage from Genesis, about the Tower of Babel, amid the ruins.

I don't mean to sound pesimistic but I hope they read Genesis 11: 1-9. It describes how the people of the land of Shinar used brick and lime to construct a city with a tower that would reach up to heaven. But the Lord intervened and prevented the builders from completing their task. He scattered them abroad and confounded their speech, so that humankind, which had been united by a single, common language, was divided into nations who were no longer able to communicate.
The cities of Babylon, Sodom, and Gomorrah reached unrepentant stages of iniquity and therefore doomed themselves to destruction. Contrarily, God frustrated the efforts of the builders at Babel before they reached the point of no return.
I believe this is the same for America. God could have brought total judgement on this nation for the acts that we have committed (homosexuality, abortion, materialism etc.) but I believe God has given us another chance as II Chronicles 7:14 says, "If My people who are called by name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land."

I don't know if it came from God---but a page from the Bible dealing with the Tower of Babel is *not* a good sign if it was left by God.

I agree. I seem to remember that the story of the Tower of Babel was about God punishing us humans for getting too cocky.

Another 'front page' story that was printed in the NY Post today taken off of front page because it talks about a Bible verse that was found in the WTC rubble.
I don't quite understand why this does not qualify as 'front page'. Does everything that is Christian now have to be taken off the 'front page?'
Enquiring minds would love to know.

It was left by Allah.

This is, I believe, another urban legend.

Why would God single out America?

The attempt to build the Tower of Babel was an affront to God in that it sought to avoid judgment of God such as the flood, and to reach into heaven itself, God's home.
I dare say we are not attempting either of these feats when we erect tall buildings.

This is not an urban legend. You can click on it and see it is from the NY Post. I think the NY Post would be very careful to publish something that happened in their subscribers back yard. Especially the WTC horror.

Especially the WTC horror. This may be, but one thing really puzzles me: I don't want to hear a synopsis of what it said. I want chapter and verse. And if this really was a page from the bible, that information is CONSPICUOUS IN IT'S ABSENCE from this article. When it comes to the bible, quotes are useless without Book, Chapter and Verse given, if, for no other reason, simply because they are always there for verification.
Anyone who quotes the bible without this information either is intentionally attempting to deceive, or is not thourough enough to be taken simply at their word. Once the necessary information is given, I can at least determine if it is an extrordanary page to find. The only thing left for them to do at that point is convince me that that is the page they in fact found.

Agree with your opinion.

It was left by Allah. Whatever, little moon/war demon-gods do not leave Bible pages floating around.

Whatever, little moon/war demon-gods do not leave Bible pages floating around. Perhaps not, but his worshippers certainly did--along with a lot of dead Americans...

A couple of years ago, my best friend's house burned down. Her mother in law had cooked breakfast for her little grandddaughters and she left the house but forgot to turn off the stove. Everything was lost, BUT her Bible was found in perfect condition except for a few smudges around the edges. It didn't even have a protective cover that you could say wouldn't easily burn, it was just a paperback. It was a great comfort to her, especially helping her kids get through it, her mother in law who felt guilty, and she read her Bible more than ever during that ordeal, trusted the Lord, and especially Romans 8:28, everything worked out for the best.
BUT these people just found the verse about the Tower of Babel and declare that God must be anxious for them to rebuild their idols; how typical!

I don't know if you all remember this from USAToday:
On a second floor, right next to where the jet sheared off a section of the building, was an undistrubed stool. And on it was a thick, open book.
Fellow searchers who had gotten a close look said it was a Bible. It was not burned. Nor was anything around it or on the two floors above it.
"I'm not as religious as some, but that would have me thinking," the soldier said. "I just can't explain it."

"It was amazing," said Bellone, who said the finding leads him to believe that "we can't rebuild fast enough. We can start over all again."I think that was the problem the first time.

If anything is a sign of the times, it's this quote. Maybe it's a hoax, but... It reminds me a lot of the story about Algore saying his favorite Bible verse was John 16:3. Sort of ... if it's not true, it ought to be.
