If you would like to start the live thread, that would be great. I was going up to SLC today, but I am not feeling all that swell, and the thought of standing outside for hours on end does not appeal to me. I'll pop in with my comments about the ice skating though, can't wait to see the costumes. Of course, I don't think ice dancing has been all that great in the Olympics since Torvil and Dean in 1984...

The Russians didn't earn the gold - the Russian guy stumbled. The Canadians didn't.

Any competition that needs judges to determine the outcome should be banished from the Olympic Games.

Like boxing, for example?

And what about refs? They are essentially judges as their ruling effect outcome. Like in football when the ref says the kick/TD is good or not.

So, here's the solution: ban all sports from the Olympics. Thus, no human "judgement."

Now, can we get practical please?

Russia should bomb Canada. Not for this, in particular. Just sort of on principle. Olympics? Relevent to my life? Don't think so

You're weird, man, really weird.

If the Russian can only get a gold medal by cheating and then their cheating fails, they deserve to be furious.(They got caught)

"Might without mind" is the characterictic of typical bully.

Rather ironic coming from a former Soviet.

Mind without might gets a "super wedgie" before suffering the humiliating "swirrly".

Of course lately Russia has neither might nor mind, thus gets ignored completely. Get used to it.

BTW, how much do Russian olympic gold medals go for in the flea markets of Moscow these days? Maybe $20?

I won't ask how much Russian former figure skaters go for. ;)

So, the Russians are upset. Too bad! They should be ashamed of themselves for wanting their pairs skaters to win by crooked means, when they obviously were not the best skaters of that night. They should be proud of Alexi Yugandi, the male skater that won the gold last night. He did deserve the gold. How would they have liked it if Yugandi had been screwed over by the judges and wound up with the silver and some less deserving non-Russian skater took the gold? They would be complaining too.

If there was proved cheating in judging then why to leave those medals to russian pair?

I agree. The Russians should give up their gold medals and take the silvers. Shall we ask the big bad American media to accomplish that next? The Canadians were being classy in just asking for an equal medal.

BTW, if there was nothing "proven," why was the judge suspended? Don't cha think that there's maybe some things about this situtation that haven't been reported to the public? You're just repeating the Russian coach's "talking points" based on limited knowledge. If the judge was suspended, the skating committee likely knows more than they are saying.

Isn't he the one who already lives in the US and is planning to naturalize after the Olympics?

I say ----you didn't listen to the news conference this morning where the ISU President said there was wrongdoing on the part of the French judge and she has been suspended. He also said that the investigation is going to continue.

But same judge revoked it later.

So she made up a lie and took it back later?

More likely she told the truth and then was pressured to deny it to be politic. One scenario makes sense; the other doesn't.

How they possibly could pressure the judge?

Three words: French ice dancers.

Get real, Serge. The problems in the judging for ice skating are hardly new. The "iron curtian bloc" voting was de rigeur for years. You act like this has never happened before. To the contrary, it has been happening for far too long.

Hey IOC, gather up your three-ring circus, pick up your toys, and leave my country NOW!!! I suggest you hold your winter Olympics in the Sudan and the summer Olympics at the South Pole. (Keep out of the United State’s sector because the penguins aren’t going to be amused either.)

Perhaps the Russian & French judges need to meet Tonya Harding? She can knock some sense into them...with a lead pipe!

The French never cease to annoy & disgust me and I have found most Russians to be very untrustworthy.

Uncovered?:) The fact that olympics choose to leave gold medal russian skaters simply emphasize the fact for everyone that Olympics was compelled by american public to give gold medals to canadians. Don't you see that?

Do you even know what you're talking about? Taking the French judge out would leave the pairs tied. Therefore gold to both.

? Accually olympics laughed on you. They was compelled almost extorted to give up gold medals under tremendous pressure but they did it such a way that anyone in future will call those canadians the "court chempions". Or "extort chempions".

Canada extorting? LOL!!! Canada has no weight to do any such thing. Usually Canada is at the short end of the stick on these matters. You seem to have more information than the Committee? They made findings of fact. They saw the evidence. You can't add a single thing now except whine. As I stated, you're lucky they left the gold with your useless pair of skaters.

"You have seen how the public reacts to even the tiniest mistakes of our athletes, and how they absolutely don't notice when the Canadians fall or when the Americans fall."

By pressuring the judges, the Russians were simply compensating for the bias against their athletes -- levelling the playing field, if you will. Surely there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, everybody knows that levelling the playing field is a noble and righteous thing, right?

Russians won gold and silver medal in men figure skating. Again gold ma Gold medal again went to russians. As anyone may see thier skating are definetly better. Let us wait and see is there will be another frustrated pretendent with lawyer now?

No, you won't see some pretendant because in that event the skater who gave the two top clean performances won the gold medal. The skater who gave the second-best free performance one the silver. ....

I guess you didn't hear the American bronze medalist Goebel who said that the results of the men's competition were fair.

No participant will complain because it was not corrupt.

Like boxing, for example?

Borderline. Fighters can be knocked out rendering judges unnecessary.

That brings a whole different set of qualifiers into play if you have to win by beating your opponent into unconciousness.

The judged "sports" like snowboarding, hot dog skiing and now figure skating really don't do anything for me in the first place. I for one wouldn't miss them if they were gone.

I haven't been following this scandal very closely. (I still miss Tonya and Nancy...) The only thing that struck me, really, was that the French judge who got in trouble was really beautiful.

If she was "pressured" to vote one way or another, how come SHE was punished, and not the people who were pressuring her?

Rather than punish her, shouldn't she be rewarded for being brave enough to speak out about being pressured to fix the event? (But I'll be honest, mostly I'm taking her side because she's so pretty...)

The Russian skaters should "defect" to America and swap their gold medal with the American duo's silver. I think that would throw a fix/wrench into the mix.

You better believe it. All that is left for them to do is to apply for entry as a Non-Government Organization (NGO), and they probably will be accepted.

"In our program "Meditation', we try to express how we feel, we don't simply skate prettily back and forth to the music", the Russian skater said somewhat sarcastically.

Hey, your Russkie boy almost ended up on his arse. No? If you think your russkie bunch were technical I guess you really are still in the 19th century there in Russia. LOL! Hey, any time I see a Russian skater again I'll remember you get your medals by cheating. A little Russian mafia pressure? LOL!
