INUPIAT LEADER ASKS SENATORS TO . . .

Visit ANWR

FENTON REXFORD, president of the Inupiat-owned Kaktovik Inupiat Corp., has called on Sens. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., and John Kerry, D-Mass., to visit the North Slope region they have been so passionately protecting from drilling.

Rexford sent letters to Kerry and Lieberman inviting both to visit Kaktovik, on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Kaktovik is the only community on the ANWR coastal plain, but neither Lieberman nor Kerry has talked to the people who live there. Instead, they court green extremists and the Gwich'in people living in two small villages south of the Brooks Range, Arctic Village and Venetie.

The Gwich'in oppose drilling and have thrown their lot in with the nation's green extremists in hopes of blocking it. Very few of the Gwich'in have ever visited the North Slope either. Moreover, they are even prevented from doing so by their leaders despite frequent invitations.

Rexford said in an announcement on the invitations that he is "confident that a visit to ANWR with my people will help the senators see beyond the propaganda and rhetoric distributed by the extremists within the environmental industry to mislead the public."

The KIC president noted that the Inupiat have lived in the area for thousands of years. Their way of life has significantly improved since oil development began in Alaska's Arctic in the 1970s. And the industrial tax base created by their home-rule government has provided public services that many Americans take for granted, things like running water, flush toilets, schools and hospitals.

"For us," he said, "responsible development means the right to live healthy and productive lives. It means educating our children, providing health care to our people, and creating sanitary living conditions."

Rexford noted that blocking ANWR development is the environmental industry's number one priority. The greens have spent millions of dollars in a public relations campaign to convince Americans that development would adversely affect wildlife in the area.

"Our people are the aboriginal environmentalists of the Arctic region of Alaska," Rexford added. "We have been the stewards of the land, sea, animals and environment here for thousands of years. We would never support a measure that would adversely impact our traditional way of life or compromise our Inupiat values.

"I would hope that the public process would allow those closest to the ANWR issue the chance to be heard. However, Senators Kerry and Lieberman only care to hear from environmental extremists based in New York and Washington, D.C. It is unfortunate that they will decide my people's future from thousands of miles away without considering our position."

Well said, Fenton Rexford.

The truth regarding the Gwich’ins opposition to drilling ANWR has nothing to do with the sacred Porcupine Caribou herds, which have steadily increased since the Prudhoe Bay drilling began. The Gwich'ins authorized drilling on their own lands but unfortunately for them, no oil was found. More to the point, the Gwich'ins are jealously angry that the Inupiats will profit more if ANWR is drilled because it would be on Inupiat soil. So, as suggested in this thread - YES, the Gwich'in are siding with the ASSEs (Armchair Self-righteous Social Engineers) for a bigger piece of the pie!

They are probably both dumb enough and desperate enough to fall for it, but I doubt that anybody wants to complicate the effort to open ANWR with a sting of the rich and powerful.

It would be fun, though.

Now that you have recounted the specifics better than I was able to recall them, I'll chime in and state that your summary jibes with what I recall as well. Thanks.

I do! I do!!! Think of what might be said in the plea bargaining session and where that might go!

It would be fun, though.

Yep, but you might get callusses on the side yer nose, or (what with the weather up there) inside instead. Ya think we could talk Redford into that one? (hehehe) Lessee, Native Amerikins, big bad oil men (no offense DG), bigger badder internationalist bankers (and bigger badder oil men), wacked out RICOnuts, and awl about the EnvironMINT. Then there's the chase scene with dog fights between helicopters and Gulfstreams... Maybe we can get the Rainbow Warrior up there for a protest? If they get icebound will the grubbamint make them mitigate the pristine coastline when it sinks?

Wouldn't you love to give a continuous fusion dose of Versed to Da$$hole, Kerry and the other enviral liars of the Senate and round up shorty Redford and fly them to this part of Alaska to visit the Inupiats.

After a week of seeing the reality not their lies of ANWR, the only way these senators can come back to the mainland. They would have to admit that they have lying on the ANWR situation to serve their Opecker masters on Fox TV and on digital tape and discs. Then mail a copy at enviral expense to every American voter. Da$$hole and Kerry are the American Mullahs of the Opecker Nations. For a lot of money they work 24/7 to make us more dependent on Opecker oil!

They can keep Redford up there. Just insert a cedar pole up his ample Clymer and use him as a frozen Totem to warn other lying enviral criminals not to lie to Americans!

Thanks! Hopefully we can wake up more good Americans to the dangers of the envirals as they finance senators to make us more dependent on Opecker Oil.

The club sierra and its Mullahs in the Senate, Da$$hole, Kerry, Boxer, ChiFi, Kennedy and ________ (fill in the blank of your favorite watermelon senator) have worked 24/7 since the 1970's to make us more dependent on Opecker Oil.

Mullah Shorty Da$$hole is the worst in history and in the senate today. He has done more to keep us dependent on Opecker Oil than anyone else in America. His blockage of the vote on ANWR means more $'s each day/week/month/year flowing into the Opecker nations. Who, then fund the al-Queerdos to go do violence against America!

We need to drill in Anwr and develop the technology to find and deliver the massive oil in the Gulf of Mexico. The day we can stop delivery of Opecker oil to America, the Islamic Terrorists will begin to fade away like bad dreams. Their money and verbal support comes from the Opecker Nations like the once super rich Saudis! The super rich Saudis who have financed the eco and Islamic terrorists for decades.

Keep in mind what a PACK OF LIES the advertisements are down here in America. Kerry and Loserman probably pay to have these ads created so they can keep ANWR locked up. I've got a lot of time working that old Prudhoe Bay oil field, and they're are NO TREES or MOUNTAINS for 80 miles! The pix on T.V. would have you believe it was some kind of sparsely covered wooded area. Caribou also like the drilling pads in the summer because they can get up on them and have the wind strip the bugs away! Big bull caribou use the VSM's(vertical support member's)that support the pipeline above ground, to rub the velvet off there horns during the rutting season. The footprint from oil drilling will be smaller than Rhode Island! Caribou will be disappointed that we human's are so stingy with offering new pads and stuff for them.

DRILL ANWR!

"Some of the Gwichins, who live 150 miles south of the Coastal Plain, are opposed to development. The Gwichins leased their own lands for oil exploration, but no oil was found. Now they oppose the Inupiats having the same rights to explore."

This is according to www.anwr.org

Agree!

however the herds do have a natural propensity to fluctuate. Drilling has had no adverse effect, but nature has. Go figure! Nature doing it's job as it has for millions of years.

I also read that the Gwichin were financially benefitting by the environmentalists. Also, a friend of mine who flies in to work with the Gwichin people of Vinitie made a comment that they had voted to not participate in Native Affairs (not sure of all the details - but probably so that they didn't have to share in the wealth of the oil with Native Affairs - which turned out to be mute point) but that as a result of there not having made sound financial decisions for their future, the people where really suffering in areas of education, health care, etc.
