God replied "Among the many angels, I have chosen one especially for you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child said "But here in Heaven, I don't do anything but sing and smile and that's enough for me to be happy."
God said "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. You will feel your angel's love and be happy."
The child asked "How am I going to understand when people talk to me, if don't know the language they speak?"
"Your angel will teach you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak", God replied.
"What am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" questioned the child.
God responded "Your angel will place your hands together and teach you how to pray."
The child responded "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
"Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way for you to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you" God answered.
At that moment, there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard, and the child, in a hurry, asked softly: "Oh, God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
God replied "Your angel's name is of no importance. You will call your angel Mommy."

A mother likes new dresses, music,
a clean house and her children's kisses.
A mother does not like having her children sick,
temper tantrums, loud noise, or bad report cards.
She can bake good cakes and pies,
but likes to see her children eat vegetables.
A mother is underpaid, has long hours
and gets very little rest.
She worries too much about her children.
And no matter how old they are,
she still likes to think of her children as babies.
A mother is the guardian angel of the family,
the queen, the tender heart of love.
She is the best friend anyone ever has.
A Mother is "LOVE."

Put them all together they spell "Mother"
A word that means the world to me.

This is a letter that I got from my son when he reached his first duty station. He has always had a way with words and I have saved many of his writing over the years & treasure every one!
It goes as follows....
Dear Mom, I think you will like this one!!
As I sit here tonight in the Arizona desert and ponder my life, I think of my childhood. When I was playing guns in the back yard pretending that sticks were swords and that apples were grenades, and when you pulled the stem off and threw it, it would explode and kill the countless number of enemies that I was fighting. But those were all classified missions. They are top secret and are stored in a vault that is called childhood memories. Only I can open them, when I am alone, and a smile always crosses my face.
It is funny, that was once a childhood passion is now a life long career. This is what I was meant to do. This is my life as a "Marine". I can see the same passion all around me, in the eyes of the Old Salty Gunny all the way down to the Boot Privates. We all belong to a legacy of men that came before us and gave their lives so that I could be where I am now. So that I and all other Marines could stand tall and be a force in readiness, that will strike fear into the hearts of evil and make the weak strong. It is like I have been asleep at the wheel on this highway called life. It is only age that has awoken me so that I may see the light. So, as I lay down and close my eyes tonight, I will be thinking...pondering my life. This is my coming of age...This is my life!
Love you Mom!!.........Danny

Who's the one who tied you shoe when you were young
and knew just when to come and see what you had done?
Mama, oh Mama
And who's the one who patched your eye
and told you not to cry cuz he was too big for you to try?
Mama, Mama
And who's the one you didn't need to plead
to give her time to the little league?
It was Mama, oh Mama
And who's the one who gave her shoulder
when you told her your first love was over
she'd met someone older?
Mama, Mama
It was Mama, my Mama
Who's the one who taught you obligation,
then dedication, result graduation?
Mama, Mama
And who's the one who's shown the friends you've known
a home away from home
when they were tired and all alone?
Mama, Mama
And who's the one who held a tear inside,
when you introduced your future bride?
And who's the one who didn't mean to cry
as you walked down the aisle,
through tears you saw her smile?
Mama, oh Mama
Mama, my Mama

Continued from yesterday.
Is freedom really free? I think freedom is not free. All of the people in the United States Special Forces risk their lives everyday so we civilians can keep our freedom and democracy! That is a price being paid for freedom. I thank all of the people whom served, but lost their lives in wars defending the United States and preserving our freedom.
The Persian Gulf War lasted a little more than a month. Of the 700,000 United States troops that were sent in, about 300 died and 400 were injured! In all of the wars America has been in, there were always some people making the greatest sacrifice possible, their own lives! That shows that freedom is not free. On any given night more than 275,000 homeless men and women are United States veterans! Many were not able to fit back into society. Freedom cost them much.
Harley Coon, a veteran, served 38 months in the terrible Korean War. Harley spent 33 months as a prisoner of war! He could not bathe, shower, or even shave. This great soldier couldnt even have haircuts or a change of clothes! Out of the 230 soldiers that were captured with him, only 6 survived being a prisoner of war. These brave soldiers paid their lives for their country, so freedom is not free.
Freedom provides many comforts for my life. I can say what I want to say, and wear what I want to wear, and practice whatever religion I want. All of the men and women that served, and are now serving, have defended my freedoms. My grandpa served for my country and I thank him for that.
If I didnt have freedom, I would be living a very different type of life. I have freedom toady because some people made the greatest sacrifice in the world; they gave their very own lives! I thank them for defending my country. I realize that freedom is not free!

What is the price one pays for freedom? It sure isnt free! The price is the lives of the people who defend our American freedom. Over 38,532,000 Americans have defended Americas freedom, but over 980,800 have died defending it. They have fought in six wars: the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Over 226 years and 60 military actions, 1.4 million Americans have been killed. The price for freedom was their lives.
The price for freedom is quite high! The award given to the bravest people during combat is the Medal of Honor. It has been presented to 3,432 brave Americans. However, not all of the recipients have been alive to receive the award.
Besides those who have died during a war, many veterans return from war with problems. 2.1 million Americans have been disabled. Chad Colley, one of the 110,000 disabled veterans, stepped on a land mine and blew off both his legs and half of his left arm in the Vietnam War. He managed to put his life back together and began skiing. He has won 20 medals in disabled racing competitions. Chad, along with other disabled veterans have paid a high price for freedom.
Soldiers who return from war have many stories to tell. Harley Coon served 38 months in the Korean War. He and 230 men in his troop spent 33 months as prisoners of war. They could not shower, shave, cut their hair, or even change their clothes. Only six men in his troop survived. Harley paid a great price for our freedom. Their sacrifices affect me in many ways. If it werent for the people who served in all the wars and the ones still serving today I would not have the freedoms I enjoy today. I can read, write, or go anywhere I want to because of the brave men who have protected my freedom.
It is obvious that freedom is not free! Today we really do not think much about the wars of the past, but if it were not for those wars, we would have been stripped of our freedom long ago. The price is the sacrifices made by the bravest of the brave those who have fought and continue to fight for freedom.

Happy Mother's Day!!
SamWolf presents: ASK DAD
Sarcastic Answers to your Childrens' Questions
C=Child D=Dad
C: Why does ice float?
D: Because it's cold. Ice wants to get warm, so it goes to the top of liquids to be nearer to the sun.
C: Why do my eyes shut when I sneeze?
D: If your lids weren't closed, the force of the explosion would blow your eyeballs out and stretch the optic nerve, so your eyes would flop around and you'd have to point them with your hands to see anything.
C: Dad, will you explain the theory of relativity to me? I don't understand why time goes slower at great speed.
D: It's because you keep changing time zones. See, if you fly to California, you gain three hours on a five-hour flight, right? So if you go at the speed of light, you gain more time, because it doesn't take as long to get there. Of course, the theory of relativity only works if you're going west.
C: How come old photographs are always black and white? Didn't they have color film back then?
D: Sure they did. In fact, those old photographs are in color. It's just that the world was black and white then. The world didn't turn color until sometime in the 1930s, and it was pretty grainy color for a while, too.
C: But then why are old paintings in color?! If the world was black and white, wouldn't artists have painted it that way?
D: Not necessarily. A lot of great artists were insane.
C: But... But how could they have painted in color anyway? Wouldn't their paints have been shades of gray back then?
D: Of course, but they turned colors like everything else did in the '30s.
C: So why didn't old black and white photos turn color too?
D: Because they were color pictures of black and white, remember?
C: Why does the sun set?
D: It's because hot air rises. The sun's hot in the middle of the day, so it rises high in the sky. In the evening then, it cools down and sets.
C: Why does it go from east to west?
D: Solar wind.
C: Why does the sky turn red as the sun sets?
D: That's all the oxygen in the atmosphere catching fire.
C: Where does the sun go when it sets?
D:The sun sets in the west. In Arizona actually, near Flagstaff. That's why the rocks there are so red.
C: Don't the people get burned up?
D: No, the sun goes out as it sets. That's why it's dark at night.
C: Doesn't the sun crush the whole state as it lands?
D: Ha ha, of course not. Hold a quarter up. See, the sun's just about the same size.
C: What causes the wind?
D: Trees sneezing.
C: Dad, where do babies come from? Is it true that a stork leaves them swaddled in a bundle on the front step?
D: In most cases, yes. But you were unceremoniously dropped down the chimney by a big, hairy pterodactyl
C: How do bank machines work?
D: Well, let's say you want 25 dollars. You punch in the amount and behind the machine there's a guy with a printing press who makes the money and sticks it out this slot.
C: Sort of like the guy who lives up in our garage and opens the door?
D: Exactly.
C: Were there dinosaurs when you were a kid dad?
D: Oh sure, your grandfather and I used to put on leopard skins and hunt brontosaurus for all the rituals.
C: Dad, how do people make babies?
D: Most people just go to Sears, buy the kit, and follow the assembly instructions.
C: I came from Sears??
D: No, you were a Blue Light Special at K Mart. Almost as good, and a lot cheaper.
C: How come you know so much?
D: It's all in the book you get when you become a father.
