A TV ad for Bill Simon suggests that an oil company's contribution to Gov. Gray Davis caused a water board to reverse its vote on toxic discharges.

This week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon began a limited run on cable television of a 30-second spot accusing Democratic Gov. Gray Davis of loosening toxic regulations in return for campaign contributions. Following is a text of the ad and an analysis by Margaret Talev of The Bee Capitol Bureau.

Let's not be judgemental here. The RATS have had great fun accusing the Republicans as being for pollution of the air and water. Remember the difference! If Republicans pollute there must be mass media and Hollywood hysteria and lots of violent greenie protests. This must NOT be allowed to occur, the enviornment is too fragile! However, if someone gives a political donation to a RAT politician, then pollution is not so bad after all. What's a little more dioxin in San Francisco Bay if it will help Davis stay in office? No big deal eh?
