The first thing you learn as a conservative is not to believe the press.
He won't be there.
Pfffft....what am I saying....of course you haven't.
You reported what was in the Morrison column as fact and it is not factual, and you criticized Bill Simon for it.
He won't be there and you owe him an apology.
The Cheney event, at a private home, will include "special guests" Bill and Cindy Simon...ElkGroveDam seems to know whereof he speaks, although the left-wing media is spinning it like crazy, from http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020904/ap_on_el_gu/california_governor_2:
GOP Nominee Dropped From Fund-RaiserTue Sep 3, 8:50 PM ETBy ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Republican group said Tuesday that GOP gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon would be dropped from a fund-raiser with Vice President Dick Cheney ( news - web sites)'s lesbian daughter because he reneged on a promise to declare a Gay Pride Day if elected.
The Republican Unity Coalition, which was formed to promote ties between gays and non-homosexuals, said Simon would not be welcome at Thursday's fund-raiser in Los Angeles. He had been scheduled to speak along with Mary Cheney.
GOP officials said they made the move after Simon distanced himself from a questionnaire in which he pledged to declare a Gay Pride Day if elected, said he supported "domestic partnership" laws if they're not based on sexual orientation and promised to uphold a variety of gay-friendly laws and regulations.
Simon said he never saw the questionnaire, which bore his signature.
"The questionnaire had not been reviewed completely by myself, I didn't see it," he told KRLA-AM radio. "There were certain statements in there that I just can't support."
David Hanson of the Log Cabin Republicans ( news - web sites), which produced last month's questionnaire, accused Simon of "a complete turnaround to pander to the religious right" and said he couldn't be trusted.
Simon's new stance appeased a prominent conservative who withdrew his support last week when the candidate's responses became public.
"The responses to the Log Cabin survey did not sound like the Bill Simon I know for one very good reason they were not written or approved by Bill Simon," said Rev. Lou Sheldon, chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition ( news - web sites). "I still strongly support Bill Simon for governor."
Simon ran in the GOP primary as a "conservative Republican," but must gain support from moderates and independents to unseat Democratic Gov. Gray Davis ( news - web sites) in November.
The coalition, which is seeking to raise $1 million for GOP candidates who embrace inclusiveness, said its fund-raiser would go forward without Simon.
"It is hugely disappointing to us to see Bill Simon bow under the pressure of a small fringe group who evidently yanked his chain hard the first time he reached out to us and to all voters in the middle, where elections are won," the coalition said in a statement.
Asked about the controversy, the governor said: "Mr. Simon doesn't seem to know where he is on most of the major issues. I think consistency is important."
Oh, brother...talk about spin. As I said, Simon was scheduled to attend. He didn't change his schedule, the RFU changed it for him.
...Simon was scheduled to attend. He didn't change his schedule, the RFU changed it for him...So THEY [the RFU] say...
The FACTS may be different. As we used to say in the Sixties, "QUESTION AUTHORITY!"
WHO says so???
What is THEIR agenda?
