Bill Simon is running for Governor. His family's business is not running for Governor. Bill Simon has to start doing things right in his campaign for governor. He hasn't yet and it is after Labor Day. Heading off disaster can only work as an incumbent's strategy, and Simon is the challenger.

Bill Simon has repeatedly shown that he is every bit as competent at running for Governor as he, you or I would be at brain surgery. We'd just get people killed. Only he's killing his own campaign.

Bill Jones would be winning at this point. Next time we should go with a guy who's paid his dues.

(paraphrased)

Al in California (caller): $10 billion debt for supplemental electricity for utilities, so we have a 20-year $19.22 billion payment and fees on our power bills, but big-3 utilities then profit off of our high rates and subsidized power (for which we have the bond payments).

Simon: We need more supply. There is no way around the law of supply and demand. We need to build more power plants. Davis is strangling business and the potential for new plants and growth with high workers comp, many regulations, and high taxes.

Hannity: Why does CA have so many democratic leaders now?

Simon: We've had Reagan, Deukmejian, Wilson, etc. We need another Republican now. end of show.

"Bill Jones would be winning at this point. Next time we should go with a guy who's paid his dues."

Oh yes, let's elect more RINOs who vote for huge tax hikes and whose word can't be trusted (example: Jones' Bush/McCain endorsement flip-flop).

Simon won the primary, and he won big. Get over it, and get to work putting Gray Davis into retirement.

"Next time we should go with a guy who's paid his dues."

BTW, that reasoning would have nipped Reagan's political career in the bud too. Sometimes you need an outsider--a limited-government, pro-Liberty outsider who knows how to pick his near-term fights with a view to the long-term--to turn things around.

From polls taken before the good news about the reversal, Simon seemed to be about tied with Davis. Recently I have been hearing Giuliani ads for Simon on the radio almost every hour. I have yet to hear a paid Davis ad on the radio this year.

New Poll Shows Simon Leading Davis and Still in Play [CA Gov.]: Simon Leads Davis Among Likely Voters

"Among 'most likely voters,' Simon leads Davis 41 percent to 36 percent. The survey of 800 voters was conducted after the Field Poll and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

The survey also found that 56 percent of respondents say they want the state to have a new governor, while only 39 percent want Davis re-elected."

The referenced Field Poll, mentioned in many articles including California: Simon: Davis' ads having no effect and Davis, Simon heartily disliked-Voter disenchantment has soared to unprecedented level, poll says, had

a Field poll released Tuesday that indicated Gov. Gray Davis' lead hasn't grown since a similar poll taken in July, despite the GOP candidate's recent legal troubles and campaign gaffes. Voters favored Davis 38 percent to 31 percent over Simon in the poll.

The random telephone survey of 765 likely voters was conducted Aug. 23-Sept. 3. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

I thought Simon sounded great, too! I wish he could have talked with fewer interruptions, but I think the good news about the verdict reversal really helps the talk show hosts speak more positively.

A judge's decision to overturn a jury verdict has to be fully justified in a written opinion, and is subject to de novo (full) review upon appeal, without any deference to the judge. Let's see what the appellate court does. I bet they affirm. Trial court judges do not like to be reversed, especially on overturnings of jury verdicts.

From Cindy Simon:

September 12, 2002

“Anniversary Thoughts”

Last week, I was proud and honored to say I have been married to Bill Simon Jr. for 16 years. We were married on a rainy day in Oak Park Illinois, in a huge church, surrounded by family and friends from all walks of life. We had our reception in a wedding hall in nearby Oak Brook. Bill's only involvement in the planning process was making a request for "potatoes au gratin" at dinner.

We had a video man recording people's thoughts... my 85-year-old grandmother talked for 15 minutes until having to be literally dragged away, and my mother wouldn't stop badgering the bandleader until he let her perform the song "Hello Dolly" (her name). It was the best day of my life.

I am blessed to call Bill my husband. He is a smart, kind, driven, generous and thoughtful man. He has a huge heart that has no bounds. He is a dad who loves to build sandcastles and surf with his kids. His idea of a great night out is to call up the neighbors and invite them over for cheeseburgers on the grill. He has never tried to butt in and take over my job as "caller" for the Bingo games. He has encouraged me to seek my dreams no matter what they may be... and he pushes me when I feel I'm not sure I can do it.

This is the man I know, yet rarely read about. This man will work night and day for all of you who have shown your confidence and faith in him. To all of you out there in the campaign trenches who stay up late into the night and then turn around and get in early in the morning - Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And to Bill - Loads of Love and here is to another 116 years!!!!

LOL!!! Pay Davis really ought to stop using a full can of hairspray each day, it really seems to have clogged his mental faculties for uttering such a shamefully crazy statement. What is it Pay Davis, did the good Judge forget to pay you campaign donations?
