I wonder what are Leno's politics? He also always talks about "rich white Republicans" (wish I were one), and yet he also attacks the liberal media.

Leno feasts on one and all. He was absolutely brutal on Clinton after Monica. He slams anyone and everyone.

I suspect that he is a liberal Boston DemocRAT, who spends a lot of his time wondering why.

He's a liberal or left-leaning at least, but he's smart enough to hide it and appear unbiased, unlike most others in Hollywood.

Leno is a firm leftist. Remember he intimated how great it would be if O'Reilly comitted suicied -- to his face. He wouldn't have done that, even as a joke, to a liberal. Look up his wife on the web. Total activist feminist leftist. Occasionally he throws out a figleaf to look moderate, but that is all it is.

One example. During the 2000 election, most of his Bush jokes had as the premise that he was a moron. Most of the Gore jokes had as the premise that he was a bit too nerdy. It sounded like he was making fun of both, but the message each time was that we had a choice between a moron and a smart superman who could use a little polish. Which would you vote for?

Im the mid-90's I heard him say on his show a couple of times that he's a Democrat. However, he's probably got too much sense to ram that down everyone's throat all the time and possibly alienate a decent-sized chunk of his audience.

Leno always seems pretty safe .. but he's got to "ride the fence" as it doesn't do him any good to be labeled liberal or conservative. I get the impression though that he leans right.

In any case, at a time when 75% of the public is for the war, the Fox joke is a plus for Fox. Only in an isolated habitat such as LA would you think that was an insult.

The only matter he's gone public with (that I know of) was support of women in Afghanistan...long before 9/11. His wife was organizing/participating in a group addressing this.

I have no problem with this joke, I think it is spot on. Fox news is as conservative as NPR is liberal. I have no problem with that. However the "Fair and Balanced" line is laughable, I mean, why even pretend? Fox leans to the right, and I _like_ it that way.

Leno is a nice guy who is basically liberal but not political. That's my take. He isn't afraid to point out anyone's flaws if it will get him a laugh. He is not driven by any issue; he is driven by entertainment value.

The funniest political joke he ever produced, imo, was the Vote Cat; Vote Dog video that played during the 2000 election cycle (I think).

True, but they tell the truth. That's fair and balanced. How fair and balanced would it be to tell lies just in order to have the left's side told?

That's why I haven't watched Leno since he took over for Carson - he yelled his punch lines, in case we couldn't tell the funny part from the setup. Never could stand that little mannerism.

I couldn't disagree more.

Fox IS fair and balanced. It has Colmes paired Hannity, it has Mara Liasson and Juan Williams on Brit Hume's panel discussion, it has Ellen Ratner, and others.

The only reason it looks conservative is because conservative arguments are so superior to the liberal ones.

Also, Fox's fair and balanced looks conservative to some because they benchmark it against the insufferably liberal CNN, CBS, and ABC.

Normally the are "fair and balanced" when talking about the daily political grind, but they haven't been during the war coverage, and thank goodness. I don't want to hear all the crap from the Info Minister, or from fringe anti-war protestors, or from the Frenchies. I don't think that's biased, because Fox is American.

When it gets back to the daily political grind, they should go back to being "fair and balanced." I noticed MSNBC copied them with a slogan of their own, "fiercly independent." They'll try anything and everything, but it's like trying to scoop up the Atlantic with a bowl.

Leno is a Liberal with a capital L. I watch ALL his shows as I record them from the night before. I wrote to him many times for dissing George W as a stupid ignorant guy.

The 9/11 thing made lots of liberals think twice before dissing our President or America. This Iraq war is supported by the big studio bosses in Holllywood, and Jay knows to kiss asses as much as any one to keep his gig going.

Jay said on April first, that Dick Chaney went into the oval office to ask the President: would you like to run things for a while, so the President said sure, and Chaney replied APRIL FOOL!

I liked the one about C. Chung.

It was bad for her (Connie) that she was fired; but the worst part was that she heard it while watching FOX.

Re Leno's politics -- he is no doubt a Democrat at heart, but as the old saying goes...everyone's a Democrat until they get a little money...

Jay's not entrenched enough with the liberal AND moneyed Hollywood crowd like Streisand, etc., to carry on as they do -- and I believe he is a bit of an independent thinker which isn't a bad thing. At least he doesn't offend me every time he opens his mouth the way Letterman does...

Fox IS fair and balanced.

Okay, you win. You disagree more than I do.

I think the key is that Fox can tell the difference between news and opinion, at least most of the time which is a lot more than the others seem to be able to do.

The 'panel' discussions on Fox are not really 'fair and balanced' because they are loaded with conservatives and have conservative moderators, but at least they allow liberals some air time - which again is more than the others seem to be able to do for conservatives.

But their news reporting truly is fair and balanced - which is more than . . . well, you know the rest.

Leno is a comedian, and he tells jokes about people on both sides of the spectrum. I remember one he told early in the 1992 campaign:

They say Ted Kennedy's got the nomination in his pocket."

Now if he can only find his pants....

Ive never been a fan of his politics but last nights commentary was on an add someone had sent him. A political flyer had been created and distributed supporting the candidate Richard White. The way the "headline" on the flyer read was something like, "On election day, vote for Rich White Republican," which is funny in the same way that all of his misworded headline gags are.

We seem to be falling into the trap of the left by letting them define conservatism. If doing your best to report factual news without bias is conservative, what does that say about liberal journalism?
