****Elias Chacour****
What do you know about this man? He spoke at our church last year. He basically did the same ole "yeah the palestinians have terrorist but Israel has a military so they're both the same" routine.

a very astute observation.

Consider spokeswoman Hanan Ashrawi; the award-winning literary critic Edward Said; Jerusalem Latin Patriarchate Michel Sabbah; Melkite Reverend/Author Elias Chacour; and revolutionary, George Habash. The problem is that, as in many parts of the world, religion is an identification, not a faith. I have never heard Edward Said or Hana Ashrawi or George Habash plead for the compassion and mercy of Christ, only for more stones, bullets, and violence. Michel Sabbah is a hard-core apologist for violence as well. The only one among these with a true Christian reputation is Elias Chacour.
How I wish that one Palestinian Christian who exemplified his faith had led a non-violent resistance movement in the spirit of Ghandi or Martin Luther King. The response from Israelis would have been a handshake of peace and all this could have been settled years ago and spared many lives. Just because a person is of Christian affinity and identity does not make them a "Christian."

However, the fact that Palestinian Christians are united with Muslims in the goal for liberation proves that the conflict isn't so much religious as it is nationalistic and human. Palestinian Christians have been among the most fervent players in the battle against Israeli occupation.
This is not really true. Most of the Christians that once lived there, had to leave because of the Muslims. The ones that are there now, do whatever the Muslims say or there will be consequences. I have talked to some of these people first hand, and they know that if the Palestinians ever get their own state, they will be opressed just like Christians in all other Muslim countries.

Edward Said, at least, is an Egyptian. His fraudulent biography was exposed a number of years ago by Commentary Magazine.

- My view of him is that he is an Israeli Arab working to undermine the country where he holds citizenship to establish a Palestinian state. He believes in moral equivalency between the terrorists and the Israeli Defense Forces. One can assume he believes in moral equivalency between al-Qaeda and the United States military.
- "Are we really aware that violence breeds violence and that with military arrogance and with terror we might be able to eliminate the other side thus making ourselves murderers and criminals? We would have killed God's children. We are invited to be present to each other. We are urged to close our physical eyes and open our minds in order to see clearly our real identity of children of God."
- "A Jewish mother deprived of one of her children or becoming a widow cannot be consoled through the same crime imposed on another mother, a Palestinian, through killing her child or reducing her to a widow. Both can be consoled and happy keeping their sons and husbands alive. If only we listened carefully to the martyrs, whispering to our mind and heart with strong determination, careless to our reaction, saying, No more martyrs! "
- It is difficult to find a genuine "Palestinian" Christian who speaks the truth and stays alive.
