Thompson's AWFUL Busy for Being So Lazy
Red State ^ | October 8, 2007 | "Haystack"

Posted on 10/08/2007 9:08:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There's a debate coming up. Fred has made it pretty clear in the past that these little dog and pony shows don't do much for him as far as anyone getting any REAL chance to speak up and speak out. In fact, not so far back I mentioned his quote about accepting the fact that he needed to "be a good boy and stand in line and wait for them to throw me a fish just like everybody else."

He continues to field the pot-shots about being lazy...that's fine-no one seems interested enough challenge his policy positions or his general outlook with respect to the country-so be it.

Now comes THIS piece (in USA Today no less) telling us about the team he has assembled, all known quantities with a wealth of diverse experiences. Seems to me Fred's been VERY busy of late-an awful lot more busy than someone who is lazy, indifferent, uninspired, and is suffering no belly fires:

Just in time for his first appearance at a presidential debate -- tomorrow in Dearborn, Mich., -- Republican contender Fred Thompson has unveiled a campaign "leadership team" with some names that should be familiar to conservative Republicans. The Thompson campaign has e-mailed reporters that:

"Sen. Fred Thompson announced today the members of his National Campaign Leadership Team: Sen. Howard H. Baker will serve as honorary chairman of his presidential campaign and Sen. Spencer Abraham, Sen. George Allen, and Elizabeth Cheney will serve as campaign co-chairs."

Not bad. Not bad at all.

The official Campaign Presser is here, and basically gives background on the newly-announced Senior Team. Fred's introduction of them is worth noting:

Howard Baker is my longtime mentor, advisor, and close friend, and I am very grateful that he will serve as honorary chairman of my campaign," said Sen. Fred Thompson. "I am also very pleased to announce that former Senators Abraham and Allen, as well as Liz Cheney, will serve as co-chairs of my national leadership team." Sen. Fred Thompson added: "These distinguished individuals bring wise counsel and invaluable experience to my campaign leadership team, and they will play a critical role in helping spread my consistent conservative message across America."

"Wise council," "invaluable experience," "helping spread my consistent conservative message across America." These words are things to remember, while the next several days in the media will bring attempts to shred and destroy each of them in kind-personally and professionally.

So let's see of I have this right:

New Leadership Team. Check. Doing the debate in spite of its inherent flaws. Check. Achieving second place in Iowa without having spent a great deal of money there. Check. A speech about Uniting America here, a speech about Defending the Dream there, and articles HERE, and HERE, and elsewhere that now cozy up to scenarios where he might actually pull this thing off. Check. A TV interview with Hannity - Jeri by Fred's side. Check.

For, perhaps, the first time ever I will actually have to agree with MSNBC. Lazy Like A Fox just about sums it up.

The media is trying everything they can to derail FRed's campaign, since they know he'll cream their Hillary in November 2008. Mitt and Rudy would love to have the team and Southern endorsements that FRed has already gathered up.

What's most interesting about this is that it reflects his style. He's not flashy, he's solid. That's a pretty good team he has assembled there.

People are so bored if there aren't sparklers going off and "Oh WOW!" announcements every day--and yet, we're the ones who are supposed to be the adults, we're supposed to be the ones who don't care about flash and are into substance. Yet many of us are moaning "Bo-ring!"

In our media-driven culture, people tend to forget that the one we get EXCITED! about is the one we're bored with a month later. In the spring, the media would have had us just skip the preliminaries and make Barak Obama emperor. In another election cycle, the wild-soundbite-per-minute Howard Dean was DEFINITELY going to be the dem nominee. And so on.

It just seems that Fred is doing everything right for a solid, substantial campaign, whereas some of the other Republicans are trying to jam their message through with huge cash outlays so we buy them before we even know what we've bought.

President Reagan gave strict orders to be woken if anything important happened. Even if he was in a Cabinet Meeting.

It would be nice if FRed went in there and broke up the business as usual, but I doubt it will happen. I’d say just being in one of those “debates” would take the wind out of anyone’s sails. I would love it if FRed jumped Chris Mathews if he misbehaves though, I’m sure Mathews act up.

From the article: “He continues to field the pot-shots about being lazy”

I hope that if Chris Mathews asks Fred how he feels about being called lazy, that he says to Mathews, “Would you like to ask me a question of substance?”

They didn’t even mention that he was ‘folksy’ in that whole article...I feel slighted.

Fred talks to us as though we were grownups. The others shout, gesture, point - like dictators.

The media has coined this ‘boring’, ‘lazy’ to hang on him in hopes of deep sixing him. Remember the tags they hung on Pres. Bush?

I would hope republicans are smarter than that - but it’s not looking so

Even better, "How do you feel about being called an obnoxious jerk, Chris?"

My hope is that Thompson runs a great campaign.

And btw, tearing down the other guy won’t build up your guy.

Then why do the Hunter/Romney camps on FR insist on using it as their major campaign strategy?

He is doing liaison work with state legislators, congress, the senate and other government officials. He is not making policy from what I understand.

Did anyone see Hannity & Colmes tonight with Dobson and Ann Coulter?
I thought Dobson was going to pop a vessel at the mention of Fred. His animosity was downright visceral.

Ann was completely disingenuous in her comments ~ she needs to read Free Republic.
