Not a fan: Krauthammer calls Palin 'rather weak' and gives her 'no chance of winning' in 2012
The Daily Caller ^ | December 31, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Is the idea that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could be America’s next president laughable? Not only to many on the left, but also to conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.

On Friday’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Krauthammer offered several reasons why Palin shouldn’t be considered the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.

“What do you mean if not Sarah Palin in 2012?” Krauthammer said. “Who’s saying she’s going to be the presidential candidate? I don’t even hear her saying it. Her chances of being are smaller than half a dozen other people. If you talk to Republicans, I don’t think there are what, more than one in three who would tell you she has a chance of winning the presidency or even the nomination.”

Because of that, he said, she wasn’t the favorite.

“And she is not the favorite,” he continued. “She has a very strong core constituency but outside of that I think she is rather weak.”

Krauthammer has previously downplayed Palin’s chances and indicated he favors Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. He said Palin would not be the ideal candidate to unseat a “vulnerable” President Barack Obama.

“Her negatives are over 50 percent,” Krauthammer said. “She has no chance of winning a general election. Why would you want a candidate who is going to lose against a Democrat who is going to be vulnerable and who is also extremely ideologically ambitious?”

He even employed a Keith Olbermann catch phrase to describe Palin and said even fellow Republicans didn’t see Palin as qualified.

“A half-term governor? I’m not sure Republicans think of her as qualified.” Krauthammer said.

Herman Cain has a business background that would knock the socks off a lot of people. I just think he deserves a chance.

Cain ran in the Republican primary for Senate in 2004 and only got 26% of the vote. If he wants to be President, he will have to win some elections first. The money doesn’t come to candidates who aren’t proven winners.

I think it great that she raises $$ for conservative candidates, but she is simply not electable as POTUS.

That’s what I have been trying to say all along but people just don’t seem to get it for some reason. She does so well in raising $$$ so why not keep her where she does good? She has helped a lot and can continue to do so in the next two years.

The political psychopaths who targeted Governor Palin with charges of non-existent ethical breaches were in effect shooting at the citizens of Alaska.

In stepping down from her position as Governor, Palin drew fire away from the people she took an oath to serve.

Whenever given a choice between personal gain and moral or public duty, Palin has always chosen duty.

I often wonder if the folks comparing her to Ronald Reagan have ever heard any of his radio commentary. He was the sharpest, clearest-thinking individual I ever had the honor of listening to. The word "brilliant" doesn't come close to doing him justice. He was a visionary for the ages.

I like Sarah Palin. I think she's a thoroughly decent woman and a forceful advocate for the America we all want back. But Ronald Reagan she is not. The comparison does The Great Communicator (and even greater thinker) a great disservice.

Sober conservatives should have no trouble recognizing the superior leader when comparing Palin and Mitchell.

You're right. It's Governor Palin, hands down.

Who is this Mitchell person?

Well, look up Herman Cain and read up on him. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

“You don't hear so good. I explained to you in a previous post that the “quitter” meme has been thoroughly debunked thousands of times on this website by hundreds of independent thinkers.”

My hearing starts to fail when idjits start lecturing via orifices intended for elimination. The poster was talking about the opposition's use of her quitting, and if you think they won't do so you've got your head even deeper in the sand than you do up your arse.

“Now, perhaps you ought to take my earlier advice and get yourself up to speed on Governor Palin before accusing me of spouting “bullshit”.”

Perhaps you ought not waste your time giving me advice. If I were ever going to be turned off from voting for Sarah it would be prompted by rude, demagogic fools like you.

Face it—if she gets nominated in ‘12, they will harp on the Quitter aspect. And frankly, its justified.

As opposed to all the nice things they will say about who?

She quit when things got tough and chose to be a professional celebrity.

This has been gone over ad nauseum, anyone who cares to know the truth knows it. Alaska's ethics laws were being used to paralyze her administration. If she hadn't resigned you would be parroting some line about all her ethics violations. If she had tried to repeal the laws you would be telling us how she was against ethics.

I am quite aware of her life history and public service. I’m a supporter but not a worshipper.

Fair enough.

I don't worship her either, but I do support her enthusiastically. I've looked carefully enough at all of the presumed hopefuls to conclude that Governor Palin outclasses them all by a country mile.

Palin cannot win. She has become a joke to over half the population. She should have finished her term and then did something substantial with a company working with energy exploration. Built some credentials. Instead she does a reality TV show on TLC and commentary on FOX news. That will not do it. I just hope she uses her considerable pull for the benefit of the GOP candidate in 2012 and doesn’t support a 3rd party one that does nothing but guarantee 4 more years of Obama.

“I can’t believe it’s come to this. Apparently, we’re not even allowed to have a primary.”

Pathetic, ain’t it? And from these supposed “free thinkers”.

Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana a GOP presidential front-runner? Yeah, now there is a guy who can draw a hell of a crowd anywhere in America.

What is Krauthammer smoking?

If Palin is such a loser, why the hell is the whole country worried about her prospects. Losers are ignored and given no ink.

Thank you for revealing the often overlooked liberal side of Charles Krauthammer. He is pro-choice and pro-gay marriage — and vehemently anti-Palin.

During the 2008 campaign, Krauthammer urged social conservatives to “grow up” and support Rudolph Guiliani for president. The cross-dressing, wife-ditching candidate from Babylon on the Hudson got far fewer votes than Palin ever would.

Now Krauthammer is pushing another squishy “conservative” Mitch Daniels. Mitch wants a truce on social issues. He does not care if the liberals destroy the foundations of civilization, most recently the Marine Corps with the repeal of DADT.

Krauthammer is good on materialistic issues — like economics. But he is utterly secular and disdainful of those who know believe that man — and society — cannot live by bread alone.

“I’ve looked carefully enough at all of the presumed hopefuls to conclude that Governor Palin outclasses them all by a country mile.”

That doesn’t mean that anyone who has concerns about her electability is “pushing the enemy line”.

As much as I follow the news and keep up with current events, I must confess that until recently, although I'd heard his name mentioned about, I could in no way identify who Mitch Daniels was. I just didn't know who he was, even though I'd heard his name. Now, if that's the reality for me, someone who is so into following the news and what's going on in the political scene, think how much more of America has no idea just who is Mitch Daniels.

Maryjean,

Daniels is the guy who wants a truce on social issues.

That is why Krauthammer loves Daniels.

Krauthammer wants to surrender permanently on social issues.
