Krauthammer calls Palin tour 'eccentric,' doubts she'll run in 2012

With a lot of media attention, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin visited the nation’s capital over the weekend to kick off a bus tour, in which she will visit various national landmarks. But some see the trip as a campaign stunt for a possible 2012 presidential campaign.

On Monday’s “Special Report,” syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer offered his thoughts on the bus tour, but admitted he wasn’t clear on what was motivating it.

“I don’t know – it’s more eccentric than usual, this event,” Krauthammer said. “She says she is going around to highlight ‘the foundation of the country.’ I don’t want to be picky but generally we say the founding of the country. I know I’ll get e-mail on that.”

Regardless of the motivation for the tour, Krauthammer suggested it would keep Palin’s brand fresh. He also noted that it would be problematic if both Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and Palin ran for president, citing an unscientific Fox News poll.

“But does the country need reminding about the Constitution and the Gettysburg — Concord, which is not in New Hampshire, it’s in Massachusetts? I’m not sure what she is doing except to say – I’m with Juan [Williams]. I think if she is still here with Fox, she is not running. She is not running. What I think she is doing to trying to keep the brand vibrant. During the next 18 months when all the attention will be to other candidates, and she showed what she can do. At Rolling Thunder she came, she saw, she sucked all the oxygen out of the room. There is nobody who can do that as she can. But as we saw in the poll, it looks as if she and Bachmann would be splitting this constituency that they have. And Bachmann, you know, this is unscientific poll but she clearly can represent that position and draw as Palin does, equally well.”

Later during segment, Krauthammer clarified his remarks, saying he confused a Palin gaffe with a Bachmann gaffe.

“Let me just say, it was Bachmann who slipped up on Concord, not Palin,” Krauthammer said. “I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. But Bachmann is a stronger and more organized candidate for that constituency.”

That’s highly vulgar, and uncalled for to a polite comment.

Go wash your mouth out with soap, and contemplate how you make the Palin-fan-base look with your remark.

Her comment is pretty mild in comparison to what I have had said to me on FR. Why are you so concerned, it wasn’t aimed at you????? Are you tag-teaming with the person it was aimed at?

Good grief! I want to keep the discourse on FR from disintegrating to the point the “F” word gets used towards FReepers, and you’re accusing me of conspiracy....

I like Gov. Palin - and I truly fear the mob following her.

WHY? because: If a political novice nationally like Sarah comes on the scene in 3 shorts years and rips up the standard playbook for running for office that has been in place for over 40 years of modern politics and not only run but wins (they know that she can, that’s why they are oppose to her so strongly) then they are irrelevant, their advice is meaningless, and some dumb woman in their eyes not from a Ivy League school that didn’t joined their distinguish clique makes them look like they don’t know what they are talking about and embarrasses and humilate them publicly

So to prove they're not irrelevant, they're saying she won't run, while knowing they are going to be proven wrong by saying that?

Huh?

FOX is not conservative. They dislike conservatives just as much as every other media outlet.

Quite true. I tune into FOX only when I know that Sarah will be on. I can't take the increasing left tilt of FOX news.

’ I don’t want to be picky but generally we say the founding of the country. I know I’ll get e-mail on that.”

Then why is he being picky? Did someone tell him to be picky, or what? I wouldn’t waste an e-mail on CK.

Mob? Let’s not get hysterical. The simple fact is that the “Ruling Class” exists and it has rules. Those who don’t follow those rules are disparaged and disowned. One thing that has not been noticed is that a great many men who sat in Congress fifty years ago, would not be considered “fit”by today’s Beltway Crowd should they dare run for office.

Wow... you have never experienced sequences of letters used to describe rather crude phrases on FR? Jeez... happens daily and sometimes they don’t bother to mask it. This post is rather mild in comparison to some that have been aimed at me lately, so you better get a stiffer backbone.

Your PDS ‘slip’ is showing again! You didn’t read what I said

If she wins it all by going unconventional and non tradition according to the book of politics then these guys are irrelevant

To them there is a “this is the way yo do it” political playbook and you are allowed to tweak it here and there, but clearly she is about to blow it up and make her own rules, so when they see it, she is going to Iowa, she ramping it up, they know she is about to run but are in denial because they can’t imagine anyone disregarding their rules “Naw, she isn’t running, she can’t be, right? It’s nuts to do it like that...etc”

LOLOLOL.

Poor, pitiful, snooty Charles. Sarah Palin has him flustered. She’s has more organization than all the other *hopefuls* combined.

He couldn’t be more wrong on that front, if he actually knew what was going on.

My backbone is just fine, thank you. Indeed, having a spine is essential if we're going to keep FR from turning into a cesspool.

It looks like the Mods nuked the comment too (I alerted it to them), so it looks like their backbone is doing fine.

I honestly recommend that when you have the "F" word - or other such cuss - thrown at you in FR (I don't disbelieve you), that you show a backbone for smart and civic discourse by hitting the abuse button on those posts as well.

FR threads are around forever (we hope). Do you want people looking back in a hundred years, and drawing the kinds of conclusions about our cause that these vulgar posts - TO EACH OTHER HERE ON THE FORUM - imply?

“He also noted that it would be problematic if both Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann and Palin ran for president, citing an unscientific Fox News poll.”

That poll he was touting, showed at the time Bachmann ahead of Palin. But, the final results of the poll at the end, revealed Palin was favored by more than two to one over Bachmann.

Go home now and grieve Charlie, once again Lucy has jerked the football when you kicked and you have landed on your PDS butt.

She did? I didn't hear any fussing about it, except from the MSM.

I don't see a problem with anything he said.

Conventional wisdom is Bachmann and Palin appear to the same constituency. There's nothing controversial in that assertion by Krauthammer. He doesn't believe she'll run because she's still with Fox. That's a credible point, made by more than one freeper as well, but Palin "fans" here dismiss the logic because they so badly want her to be running.

He said the others can't suck the oxygen out of a room like she can. No one here would dispute that.

The bus tour is certainly highly unusual. The day she announced her resignation from the governor's office, Krauthammer suggested she write, she speak, she campaign for others and come 2016 no one will care about the early resignation and she'll still be young.

For a guy who people are panning, he was very prescient in what she should do to keep herself in the spotlight. The Fox panel thought he was nuts and presumed the resignation mean she was finished. He was also right that there was not a scandal set to drop.
