I like Newt. I like his quick mind, high intelligence and ability to explain things to the everyday guy. He also knows how to game the system to get things done. I have NOT liked his environmental stance. He wrote a “contract with the environment,” supported international treaties on climate change and Congressional legislation imposing restrictive environmental programs.
Yet recently he stated at a tea party meeting that he would disentangle the United States from International environmental treaties under Agenda 21, which includes sustainable development. I wonder if he really appreciates how entangled we are in globalization? I wonder if he understands that Congress no longer governs these agencies - that, through the Administration, they have been implementing a UN global agenda for 20 years. http://users.sisqtel.net/armstrng/agenda21.htm (go about half way down the page)
If he truly means what he says, then that is a temendous leap forward in my mind. Wish we could pin him down more on that.
No I haven’t (in case you missed my tagline), but (Herman Cain aside) the least objectionable to tea partiers of the big 4 (Romney, Perry, Christie, & Newt) would seem to be Newt.
Surprisingly, I didn’t miss your tagline but how can you forget the PELOUSY/NEWT Show on Globull Warming??? You don’t settle for what the Republican Establishment is pushing. Middle America is awake! Remember 42% self identify as Conservative, 35 percent as Moderate, and only 23% as Liberal/Progressive and the Moderates have had a belly full of what Progressivism has done to this country they are ready to get the Government out of their way! IMHO.

I watched Cain on ABC with Christianne Amanpour and Fox News Sunday.
He handles tough questions very well for a newcomer to politics. This could be leading to something big for Cain.
The electorate is dumb as a box of rocks. You have to be very lucky to get a good decision out of it and timely. A month sooner or later produces a totally different result.
This desperate move to Cain is not encouraging if you want Urkel out. And Newt? Give me a fricking break. This guy makes a loose cannon look predictable.
I went to Tampa for the GOP debate and met Perry, Romney, Newt, Cain and Bachmann.
All were extremely nice to me and I spoke with each one. I called Newt, “Mr. Speaker.” He’s impressive. I like him. I know he’s let us down in the past, but he would wipe the floor in debates with Obama.
I am not opposed to Newt at all.
I would prefer to see Newt as POTUS and Cain as VP.

Unsatisfactory on several counts.
Why would Cain even consider this? He is 65 years old already. A VP is either a training slot for POTUS (and Cain is too old), or a ceremonial position to somehow “balance the ticket”. Cain is nobody’s token.
Cain has momentum out the wazoo. Nobody saw this coming and he could well win just about everything in between now and Election Day - primaries, caucuses, straw polls, and that convention thingy later next year.
He is the CEO-type, the number one guy to do things HIS way - he did not get in this race to be an affirmative action bench filler.
Newt, OTOH, still has enormous baggage re how he handled his dying wife, global warming, and healthcare.
I used to love Newt until he caved to Clinton & Co. He is a brilliant, articulate politician, but he is the insider’s insider. As a Presidential candidate - no thank you.
I could see Newt as an advisor, Chief of Staff, Press Secretary, or cabinet secretary. Not as POTUS or even VPOTUS. He lost his leadership stature, IMHO, after all his missteps outlined above.

It won’t hurt Cain.
Cain said it was insensitive and should have been painted over sooner. That’s the political equivalent of hitting someone with a feather duster—about as light as you could go.
The critics (even Rush) seem ticked that Cain didn’t defend Perry. Really? That’s Cain’s job, to defend another candidate. No, that’s Perry’s job.
And therin lies the problem for Perry. Once again he has been uable to defend himself by giving a simple answer. “It was there before we rented the property, and we immediatly painted over it.” That’s all he needed to say—case closed.
Instead, he has given conflicting statements:
“When my Dad joined the lease in 1983, he took the first opportunity he had to paint over the offensive word on the rock during the 4th of July holiday.”
“My mother and father went to the lease and painted the rock in either 1983 or 1984. This occurred after I paid a visit to the property with a friend and saw the rock with the offensive word. After my visit I called my folks and mentioned it to them, and they painted it over during their next visit.”
Not only do the dates not match, but it gives the impression that they didn’t consider it to be a big deal. Did they immediatly paint over it? No, but they eventually got around to it.
I grew up in the deep south. I’m not naive about this kind of thing. In the ‘60s the n-word was commonly used. But in the early 70’s that phrasing totally disapeared from public discourse (at least polite public discourse). By the early 80’s the word was 100% unacceptable. Had I rented a building or land in the early ‘80s with that word on it, it would have been painted over on day 1, not a year later or “when we got around to it.”
Of course, I grew up in Georgia. Maybe things were different in Texas. Regardless, the protests about Cain not comming to Perry’s defense seem a little too over the top. Or to quote the Bard “the lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

I wondered if it was wise to even comment on this. I’m not sure I have a flame retardent suit thick enough.
Of couse, in the sprint I gave a long detailed explination of why Sara Palin wouldn’t run, and I survived that. (My predicitons, btw, still seem to be holding true.)
I heard a speech Newt gave in Iowa recently. It was broadcast on C-Span. He laid out a new contract with America that listed the major challenges facing America and how he intended to deal with them. The fact is he is the most intelligent and well-informed candidate running and he has a clear vision of what needs to be done to, as he puts it, “save the country.” He said he wants seven, three- hour debates with Obama with no moderator. Imagine how he could manhandle Obama in a debate. I’d pay to see it.
I won’t vote for either of them, but I agree that Newt is a good debater.
I think that’s a pretty spot-on assessment.
I’m on the Cain Train. I got my picture taken with him yesterday at the DeKalb County (GA) Grand Old Party fundraiser event, and got a signed pre-release copy of his new book - in exchange for a nice donation.
He very much liked that I was wearing my Cain/Georgia/2004 lapel pin from his 2004 primary run vs. Isakson. We really screwed up, as a state, in not electing him then.
And don’t forget to add that Christie is not going to get the primary vote of anyone who belongs to the NRA/GOA and pays any attention whatsoever.
Newt was a genius back in the 90’s but kind of gained some baggage after that. Well, they all have some baggage.
Newt can handle the politic end and Herman can handle the domestic part.
