You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell! Taylor (Charlton Heston); The Planet of the Apes, (1968)
This classic line is all that came to mind when I read this piece in POLITICOfollowing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christies decision not to enter the presidential field, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palins law firm made a number of calls requesting early state filing deadlines thats right. She thinks she can blow it up. She just might.
Poll Shows Palin Within 5 Points of Obama
She Has A Documentary Out, Doncha Know?
Palins political action committee (Sarah PAC) employs attorney Mark Braden, with the firm Baker Hostetler, made the calls on Palins behalf on Tuesday afternoon.
It is not entirely clear if this is a genuine attempt to enter the race or another in a long line of attempts to get the press to focus on Palin, whereas most of her press coverage in recent weeks has come exclusively from Fox News Channels On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.
While not yet official, due to the ongoing shuffling of the primary calendar, the likely filing deadline for the New Hampshire primary is going to be October 28making it the earliest in the nation and the formal deadline to enter the2012 presidential contest.
If she did enter the race, it would result in the most devastating internecine battle among Republicans since 1992when Patrick Buchanan challenged President George H.W. Bush in a primary. Palins supporters, while smaller than they were only three years ago when she was the Republican vice presidential nominee and the toast of the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis St. Paul, remain doggedly supportive. Her detractors are slightly more numerous and are securely in control of the nominating process following Christies exit from the race.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has already landed The Home Depot investor Ken Langone, a committed Christie supporter. He will receive the greatest bump (if there is one) from Christies exit from a race he never entered (but he was polled anyway). Palin would almost certainly take from businessman Herman Cain (now in second or third place across several polls) and Texas Gov. Rick Perry (tied for second with Cain).
The battle would be fierce and bloody, and Sarah would likely loose. However, if she gets in without any semblance of a staff or donor base required to run a national campaign, she has no intention of winning. She wants a fight.
Its a wish that will be granted with likely spectacular results.
We're just getting started, baby!
If Sarah does join the fray, we need to make a clear distinction between GOP and “conservative”. I don’t want a single Republican elected - not one.
Instead, I want them all replaced by certified, genuine conservatives.
And, if Sarah “blows up the GOP”, more power to her. The next POTUS (assuming zero tanks next year as predicted) is going to have an uphill fight trying to undo all the damage he has done. The biggest trick will be to roll back the spending without making the economy even worse than it already is.
IN A.D. 2011...CAMPAIGN WAS BEGINNING.
A real government budget cut passed through Congress and signed—especially if it included Obamacare repeal, all-of-the-above energy policy, and significant regulatory relief—would quickly ignite a business boom the likes of which the world has seldom seen in its history.
The “progressives,” plutocrats, and Beltway mandarins of both parties will do everything they can think of to try to stop that from happening. That tells you everything you need to know about their REAL priorities. They don’t give a damn about the people. The only thing they care about is power.
I forgot to add “tax code simplification” to my laundry list of How To Fix Everything . . .
Yes, I know. I did it.
The way I see it America is like a herd of sheep that has been harassed by an insane sheep herder with hyped up ill trained sheep dogs, they have been barked at and nip so many times they are just going to sit down and wait.
Now I am not in a real world sense knowledgeable about sheep herding but when animals get spooked too often the act entirely unpredictable and will stampede, they will climb over each other in a mad rush not knowing which way to go.
But I have a feeling Sarah Palin can corral the stampede, she may be playing music to soothe the panicky fears for all I care but at the very least she is as far apart from the fear mongering Obama as can possibly be. And other GOP nominees the minute they try to start yelling and trying to stir up momentum will lose the herd again.
Kinda like in the films of how the cowboys would try to stop a stamped, lead them to water or something, but you don’t keep shooting the guns off.
I know you like her and want her to run as do many.
I think you have to not only dance with the person you took to the dance, but; you best go home with the one who got you looking, feeling, standing, and even sounding much better.
Frankly, I was 98% sold on Cain until he repeated that racist allegation against Perry. I do not know why- but; I am tired of hearing this racist BS?
Damn, can’t our own party have the guts to ask another face to face-”IS THAT TRUE?”
It seems we keep falling for the divide and conquer BAIT.
“A pack, not a herd.”
The thing about a pack is that at some point, somebody needs to emerge to challenge the alpha leaders and, if they’re able, overthrow them.
The “progressive” alpha pack leaders (both D’s and R’s) who’ve led the pack into disaster and despair are looking pretty long in the tooth, aren’t they?
Not that they won’t go down without a fight, of course.
Pelosi, the alpha female pack leader way past the point of prime comes to mind.
And you can pretty much tell he’s not very objective, given his statement “the battle would be fierce and bloody,” but that Palin would be likely to lose. A fierce and bloody battle is by nature a very close battle, with neither side “likely” to lose.
Sarah in 2012, Piper in 2036!!!
Yeah, I'm gonna take political advice from this illiterate.
It’d make the “Dot.Com” boom of the 90’s look like the Great Depression.
“Does that make Noah a looser?”
The guy sounds like a loser
FOR GREAT JUSTICE.
Excellent, funny graphics there!
good luck! lets see what shakes out.
