Some people in the Republican Party want to follow John McCain’s policy of not going after Obama personally:
"Republicans on a private Republican National Committee conference call with allies warned Tuesday that party surrogates should refrain from personal attacks against President Barack Obama, because such a strategy is too hazardous for the GOP.
“We’re hesitant to jump on board with heavy attacks” personally against President Obama, Nicholas Thompson, the vice president of polling firm the Tarrance Group, said on the call. “There’s a lot of people who feel sorry for him.”
Here’s Michael Walsh’s response at NRO:
"I took some grief on the recent NR cruise by telling the group that I thought Mitt Romney would lose to Barack Obama rather handily. That for some mysterious reason Obama continues to have relatively strong personal-approval numbers and a substantial, reliable base, which Romney doesn’t. As a typical standard-issue Republican, Romney wouldn’t have the heart or the courage to take the fight to the president, but instead would debate around the edges, and lose…
Gee, if Obama’s personal-approval numbers are still high, why would you want to take them down? Let them stay there, lest the Democrat-Media Complex accuse you of being a blue meanie.

This is where I disagree with Rush, there is no way the elite will ever give up power and conservatives will never take over the republican party. The party in Washington is just a bunch of losers anyway..the house hasn't had a leader with balls and neither has the senate...Power never gives up power.
It’s problematic to call a black man lazy and unserious. But what is to be said about a POTUS who is golfing every 12th day and spends only half the day at the office? And doing that WITH 9% UNEMPLOYMENT!
The problem I have is the RINO’s have left No Budget Barack off the hook. The man simply has no serious plan for the economy. Everything is a campaign gimmick and/or crony payoff. Yet McConnell & Boehner refuse to turn the heat up until we get scorable budgets out of Barry & Harry. They are running out the clock while McConnell & Boehner tip toe to Nov. 2012.
And I mean a …support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic... type of threat...just to be clear.

Newt surged when he took on the Vile MEDIA!!! That’s why people love him...just for that and almost nothing else!! We know he won’t let the media knock him around when they interview him....he’ll fight back....FIERCELY!
The devil is in the details - in particular one detail - what do you mean by “personal”?
Should the Republican candidate make clear where Obama is really coming from, in terms of ideology and general outlook? Absolutely. If this is what “personal” means, the Republican candidate should get personal indeed.
The grassroots are turning to Newt because they recognize a fighter.
If those other wimpy candidates can’t stand up to the Dems, how would they ever be able to handle our foreign enemies?
I’m not a republican. I’m a conservative. Maybe it’s time we recognize who we really are.
That is an opinion, that could be argued one way or the other, on a very specific topic of “Community Organizer”.
Which is far different from what Newt is saying here - following Obama and hammering him on his speeches.

Reminds me of the skipper aboard a Navy ship who tells his crew the water seeping in is nothing to worry about. When we get back to the base —We’ll get shore leave ,and they’ll check it out. A little water is nothing to worry about—until the bulkheads buckle.
We have a liberal leadership, and more liberal candidates than Conservative ones. We need a third party. It can work if done right, unlike it’s ever been done before, and regardless of those who say it’s a stupid waste of a vote. It just needs support and time, instead of trying to form it in months to go against a bad candidate, and then forgetting about it completely after a horrible loss. I post this below in a different thread earlier.
I wish we had some of the most influential Conservatives form a Conservative third party. I don’t mean one for this election because it’s too late, which is usually how the third parties come together, and then fail. If we actually had enough of the top Conservatives who had the spine to organize, and put money behind a new Conservative party with a platform put together by our most popular, and influential Conservatives over enough time to get it well organized and funded it would be successful.
A third party could work if it was put together right, and had well known Conservatives behind it, but we only think about third parties at the last minute, and then forget about them after an election. These third parties don’t have names behind them that’s needed, or they are fringe views that just aren’t going to be supported by most. Conservatism isn’t a fringe political stance, and a party with a real Conservative platform agreed on by our best it would be taken serious. It would raise plenty of money from us as well.
I have no doubt a third party like that would instantly be a threat, and would probably destroy the Republican party by siphoning so many supporters, and significant funds which wouldn’t bother me at all. I would enjoy watching them go crazy while being destroyed. We don’t need liberals in our own party to deal with, when we already have enough on our hands.
I’m just get sick of having to deal with a liberal leadership in our party where we can’t even get a damn Conservative elected. The democrats didn’t have a hard time getting extreme leftist taking over their party, and we are headed more in that direction than we are in a Conservative direction. The fact we can’t get good Conservative Presidential nominees is pathetic. It would be nice to have a primary full of Conservatives where you could easily support most of the other candidates if your guy lost, and not just to beat the other guy which is all we ever do now, but because we actually like their politics. It’s about time we start taking more chances to change things. The TEA party worked in some of our elections, but it didn’t seem to change anything when it came to this Republican primary.

I’m not a big Newt fan ... (actually not a big fan of anybody right now) ... that said, if Newt goes after Obama and used the “tons” of ammunition Obama has created, then Newt will win easily. Who ever takes on Obama is going to win this thing. This is going to be an “against Obama or for Obama” campaign ... whoever takes up that mantle will win. Right now, Elmer Fudd could beat Obama if he would come out and attack this “president” as should be done. And I think we need to move from calling him “present” to calling him “absent”. (Absedent?)
I don't like Gingrich personally, but I think that he's the only one left who will call a spade a spade and go after the Dems. And by Dems, I mean Obama, all of his attack dogs, and the MSM.
Might be refreshing to have someone take the gloves off and say "You're a friggin' liar" instead of "My good friend and long time colleague may be slightly misinformed on the topic at hand".
I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to hold my nose and vote (R) regardless, just to get BO out of the White House. I just might not need to pinch as hard with a couple of the remaining (viable) candidates, Newt being one of them.
